There are direct parallels between both "Big Poppa" and this song because of the idea of "hardcore rap that you can dance to" that both of them were trying to achieve. Big Pun even rhymed about this on his hit song "It's So Hard"

If you continue with the Big Pun route, I think it’s only fair, and your dad will also enjoy the song “Twins (Deep Cover 98).” The word play by Big Pun is immaculate, from what I remember Fat Joe was good too. They’re rapping over Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s “Deep Cover” or “1-8-7”, an All-Time Classic

Also quick note on the outro "Boricua, morena". Given NORE was a great friend of Big Pun and both are from Puerto Rican parent(s), later NORE would take the risk of being pretty much one of, if not the first, rapper/artist to bring reggaeton music in America with his, till this day, greatest hit "Oye mi Canto". This song is pretty much an anthem in reggaeton music and almost any latino knows this melody, given that the chorus in NORE's song takes the "Boricua, Morena" part and further adds more lyrics to it ("Boricua, Morena, Dominicana, Colombiano, etc." ) to pay hommage to Pun. He even brought Daddy Yankee into the remix, so yep just a fun fact that, I, myself when I checked Pun's catalogue was blown away that the original chorus was from this song !
@hadiyahharrison7681 Жыл бұрын
Actually Morena is referencing African Americans. He’s essentially saying Puerto Rican woman and African-American/black women. Meaning the crossover b/w him and Joe’s audience. He references this in his I don’t discriminate line as well.
@chachiiiii99 Жыл бұрын
Exactly! Hence why they switch clubs in the video
@trinidad51028 күн бұрын
that's not what morena means, "Morena" refers to any black or brown skinned woman, it does not refer to specfically African Americans. You can be Morena and be from Puerto Rico or Mexico as well, he was referencing Puerto Rican Morenas in the song

I love watching dad react to songs, be so open minded and have a good time. Big pun has both a son and a daughter, Chris Rivers, and Starr Rios, who have both inherited their dads skills and flo. Although they have not reached dads commercial success, they are still both very talented, more underground rappers. Don’t know if they have enough material to flesh out a reaction video, but both still worth a listen. I grew up with Pun’s music so I find it cool and kinda heartwarming at how they both resemble dad and are carrying on his legacy.

The most popular song that shows Big Puns word play is Twinz ft Fat Joe. Boriqua, Morena hook was a way to pay respect to the Latino (Puerto Rican) and Black unity that Pun was big on. Also played into Pun wanting to be known as a dope rapper that happened to be Latino and not just a Latino Rapper. Pun was also the 1st Solo Latin Rapper to sell a Million albums. His album alone was just a showcase of his rhyming abilities. I put the link below to the video because if you react to it I would hate for you to react off the edited version 😂 kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqm7aIhjqLt3idUsi=SjdZXntbUZgGwJMp

I remember it like yesterday. When this song came out, the next day and for a couple of weeks I remember everyone in school that knew I was Puerto Rican would come up to me to ask what "boricua morena meant". 😂 Boricua, as you correctly put it is the Taino word for people from the island of Boriken (PR). Morena, on the other hand, in PR and the Caribbean is used for a person of dark skin complexion. The brunette definition is more used in Spain. Pig Bun is a good option for your reactions. Hope to see more. Greetings from PR.

I can’t get enough of this, the relationship you two have is what I believe every father wishes to have with his son. Kai, I know you get 1k’s of recommendations. Not asking for a reaction but wanted to introduce you to an amazing group that was a huge part of my younger years. The group is called Little Brother which consists of Phonte, Big Pooh and the producer 9th Wonder all great in their own rights but amazing as a group. Start with “The Listening” then “The Minstrel Show” and here’s a gem that I cherish an album called “Connected” by Foreign Exchange which consists of Little Brother, a slew of other underground MC’s and this amazing producer from the Netherlands named Nicolay. Sorry for the long comment. I just love your love for hip hop. Reminds me of when I discovered hip hop and had an insatiable desire for it. Hope you enjoy those musical masterpieces, look up the history behind the album Connected. It’s pretty cool, how it was made without the artists meeting the producer. Wish you and Pops the best. These are the times you’ll look back on and cherish as you grow.

I love watching u two bond over these tracks. So the thing about Pun is...He was a hardcore rapper. But bc of guys like Biggie & Heavy D...He understood the importance of embracing the suave big man archetype. Pun used to be small & a model. But appealing to the ladies & being radio friendly "accessible" as u said...is how they were going to expand his brand and character. He is one of the greats of that generation & is up at the top of the mountain w/ anyone past or present. Pun was a phenomenal lyricist. He was hard, witty, clever w/ the metaphors and references, & had flow for days, along w/ an attractive voice tone. Thank u for paying appropriate homage to his work.
