Not possible to have never heard that song if you were an adult at the time it came out. Just not possible to "love this guy" and NOT have heard the song.

That's why this was the #1 song in the country. You listened to it and were immediately sucked into the story, the lyrics, and the chorus!

The Beast talib referenced are the cops and the system of law. Communicating via radio with helicopters. ( ghetto birds) I think Ice Cube made this a popular reference at the time. LA had more interfaces with aerial police.

Idk kind of disagree with the ‘he doesn’t get too poetic’ comment. His lyrics are the essence of poetry. More like spoken word than most MCs

I think what we meant is that it is not too dense with metaphors or other poetic devices, so the meaning is typically more straightforwardly put than say an Aesop Rock

Stray Bullet - Organized Konfusion.....do yourself and your father a favor and play that. Released 2 years before this and i would argue it potentially inspired Nas' go at it. That whole album is a classic but if you love this, you’ll love that.

I’ve said it before, I’m so envious and of the bond you two have. My dad was a jazz musician and he indulged me at every turn with my introducing him to wha I was listening to. Hours upon hours of wonderful memories. Love that your dad has become such a hip-hop head! ✌🏽❤

The "beast" are the NYC police and the "ghetto bird" are police helicopters patrolling.

Wait until you hear the Pete Rock remix! Man, everyone in our area who were about hiphop went hard on Rawkus in its heyday and this is just one of the nany highlights

As good as Mos’ verse was, I actually like Talib’s better. There’s more hidden meaning in the words he uses, a little more slang that might make it harder for some to digest, but it’s also just one big tongue twister. Verbal dexterity.

DMXs line from “Let Me Fly” where he says “I merely say what’s in my heart & you call it a style”, that 1 line sums up DMX as a whole tbh, he ALWAYS spoke from the heart!! 💯 I know he’s in a better place now, but we do miss him & his “style”, 😅 R.I.P Earl Simmons aka The Dog!! 🙏💯

So tired of hearing people saying "bars" so damn annoying. Just say rhymes. Most people dont even know what the bar actually is in the song.
@erichodges24846 сағат бұрын
A bar is a music term for a line of music in written form. There could be multiple rhymes within a bar or number of bars. They aren't interchangeable terms.

An absolute classic and it ushered in the rise of underground acts in the early 2000's.

I'm from the U.S and Tupac was a huge influence on my generation. He died when I was a teenager. If you ever get a chance, watch the movie "All Eyez On Me". Its a fascinating docu-film about Pac's life. His mom was very instrumental in the Black Panther Party and a major reason why he became who he was.

Love what you did for your father young King. I love how his emotionality is getting through his brilliance gorgeous. Y’all are beautiful souls and I love how he tries to look for that tissue paper again. Both presentations of encouragement and also very real - ❤ Tupac has bars for days, he reads his journey through a journal for us Notice timeline changes - & Kéep ya head up

Maybe my reaction is a bit premature, since I don't really know this channel and don't know you. I'm an old hiphop head and for some reason I was under the assumption that your dad was more up to speed with nintetees rap. But now you respond, I realize that that is not important. I am glad you give this music a positive platform and that your dad enjoys this as much as I do.

People forget he’s the son of black panthers, the nephew of assata shakur, he was raised around folks dedicated to political and social education. The ruins of the paranoia of political persecution and communities flooded with cheap drugs runs deep in the communal trauma he saw and understood not only on a intellectual level but he had so much empathy
