Best show I've ever been to, was like max 75 people there in a super small venue, awesome experience. If you want recs on where to go next I would (Although Aethiopes is my personal favorite idk how good it would be for a first reaction because it is dense, the record has required reading, lol) recommend Haram by Armand Hammer (his group he has togrther with Elucid) it's also prduced by The alchemist and has an Earl feature on it.

Aethiopes is my favorite billy woods album. It is another concept album and the concept isn’t revealed until the final track. Basically woods is walking through a history museum and seeing himself in the paintings and each song is a different slice of history. It has his best verse on remorseless and the production from preservation flows beautifully from track to track. Also billy woods and e l u c i d have a duo called Armand hammer with several amazing albums, including one produced by the alchemist. woods has also worked with earl sweatshirt on many occasions. Good catch by Kevin in the inspiration there.

Woods put out another phenomenal record as Armand Hammer last year with great production (some beats by Peggy). This year they put out a updated version with a 9 minute song produced by Kenny Segal called Doves and it quickly became my favorite song of the year so far. Extraterrestrial, existential and depressing vibes all over the album but this song is on another level.

I've been going on a similar Billy Woods Journey as you, Connor, I just started a few months earlier. His music is really incredible. I wish that all the music I listen to had as much thought put into it. I really love Hiding Places; It's another Woods + Segal collaboration. It has some of the qualities that make this record great, but I would argue it's much more abrasive and more experimental at times. Recently I've been listening to History Will Absolve Me which is an older record but really holds up. Armand Hammer, his duo with Elucid, also has a phenomenal discography. I really like some of the songs on Furtive Movements, one of their earlier projects, and their most recent album We Buy Diabetic Test Strips is really experimental and awesome. It's kind of a challenging listen but has some great pockets of really unique melodies and rhythms.

Highly recommend their first collab Hiding Places, his album Aethiopes from 2022, and the Armand Hammer albums Paraffin and We Buy Diabetic Test Strips. It's worth noting Woods' grew up in both Zimbabwe and the US, his father was a Marxist revolutionary involved in the Rhodesian Bush War and his mother is a Jamaican English professor. You can really hear that in his music.
