The amazing thing about this record isn’t actually that it’s a comeback album and he’s trying to win people over, it’s the fact it’s a complete double down. At this point Kanye was the absolute biggest villain in music. The media, his peers, his fans, everyone hated and ostracised him to the point he fled the country and even contemplated suicide. But he hit a point where he thought "fine. Im not going to apologise for who I am and what I am - because that’s what makes me great. You want me to be the bad guy? I’ll be the bad guy." In the end this was all apart of his dream. The money, the fame, the love, the hate, the fake women, the backstabbers, the loneliness, the controversy… it was all a kind of beautiful dark twisted fantasy of his. “I fantasised bout this back in Chicago…” Can’t start an album in a more perfect way.

No TV on, no snacks,... full, undivided attention. By the time All of The Lights reached its halfway point, my eyes welled up. I kept thinking "He's doing it again. I can't believe it. He's doing it again." As a fan since College Dropout, I was having a hard time understanding how it's possible to put out 5 classic albums in a row. 808s might not have been considered one yet at the time but I fucked with it heavy so the thought was there. Doubt it could ever be done again and we got to see it in real time. 5 in a row. 🔥
