I remember that car! Back in the day on Long island! I'm the proud owner of my father's 65 GTO that was bought new at Whipple Pontiac in Hempstead! I used to see your dad at a lot of the show's! My car is on a KZbin site called Muscle car campy! From about a year ago! It's the Reef Turquoise one!

Nice looking Fontaine Blue car and garage! I changed rear springs in mine and it’s stance is better. 64’s are 1-2 inches shorter. Great to see original owner. You should consider showing it at GTO Nationals. Keep ‘em rolling.

That was a super fun watch-and-learn vid. Super knowledgeable man and I respect his decision in keeping her all these years. I myself, have the exact color car but a convertible. I bought it in Seattle in 98 and live on Vancouver Island now. My son has his eyes on it!! I have many other muscle cars but the goat is by far the one I would keep if I only had one choice. Pass it on down the line dad!!

car lovers are sensory people. to us cars are not appliances. they are a medium through which we obtain visual, aural, and physical pleasures.

A fella(10-15 years senior)who lived in the same town Rosedale in 1980 had a 65 GTO with a rotted frame. He aquired a 1972 Pontiac Lemans post 350, regestration listed a 6 cyl. He swung the 389 Tri Power and Powergluide along with the GTOs Tripping star console and shifter. Added yellow fog lamps behind grill, He added an additional electric fuel pump with switches in console. The headers had come with the 389 and were flattened, ripped with no mufflers. Load car. Top it off there was most uncomfortable 1971 Ford Mustang buckets. So the car sat in the back of Rosedale for $400 waiting for the day I arrived home, after usual via public trans Jamaica F train to 320 Park Ave ITT. I had purchased a 1970 Chevelle SS 396 M21 4 speed triple black with a fresh, thick perfect lacquer paint with the red/white starbursts tip of cowl hood, around the fender emblems, door handles and across rear trunk for 1800 bucks. Guy had New Crager 10” N50s in rear, 8s in front. I had been considering my friends 1969 Pontiac Firebird 400 Convertible. It was the real deal, hood scoops, hood tac. Car was blue(fresh paint) with a robin blue interior and white top. But the price was 3000 and the car was getting tired. I had been in it going 130+ thru the Jones Beach tolls more then once.SS guy had just bought the new Camaro 79 Z28 (rich kid)therefore selling Chevelle. So for 1800 bucks I got the z28s brand new dark blue 15” rims, trim rings and eagles GT tires and he cragered the Z28. This guy would pull up to the speed bumps in East Rockaway HS Light the tires up and melt the asphalt.WOW compliments everywhere at 18 Life was good. About 7 months later after a neighbor5 houses away was selling this monsterious looking Black 1969 Dodge Coronet RT Convertible white top,Interior all original but used. This is the rare hemi426 4speed rare bird that’s selling for 1 million. I passed it up, it looked aged compared to my shiney SS. Well the Chevelle was stolen from FO house in Rosedale. My wallet was in car( remember paper licenses, and transferable registrations??). The MF whole stole the car reregestered the car to his name William Soto Covert St bklyn. I was 19 Soto was in 30s he used my license and name, but changed DOB closer to his age. He got stopped in 75pct in ENY Brooklyn by cops and received 8 tickets speeding, racing, reckless, red light etc. In my SS reregestered , and using my identity. Months later I get delinquent notices from Bklyn Traffic court, and the next day I received delinquency notices from Titusville Florida. Same shit my SS my ID getting speeding tickets in FL. I had to get motorized letters from my employer that I was at work In NYC on offense date. They wouldn’t believe me. I searched every night every dark corner of every borough of NYC with a crew looking for my SS. I had Comp insurance offered 1800, I never settled. My buddies came across the freak 72 Lemans bought it and smoked everything except a Electra 225 on Fountain Ave, he had hidden nitrous. I raced at Freeport raceway spectator drags. I put 6 gallons of Cam 2. I had never raced a bank track. This lemans speedo was 140 and was slow. I would bury the speedo anytime I wanted. At Freeport I beat the first car Mustang, then a BB Chevelle beat him, then a 383 Roadrunner beat him. Last race was this guy who won every event. It was a late 70s Vette. He jumped the start Caught him turn 3 but traction spun out. One of the track guys came up to me and asked if I had seat belts, I said No he said try and get some. Great night. Sorry for runon, on spelling. Peace

The actual bona fides of the brochure pictures is that Kilpatrick, Pontiac's literature illustrator, purposely depicted vehicles in a low, "squatty" stance because that lent to a more sleek appearance, & did in fact enhance the styling of the cars. Opting for P/S only scavenged perhaps 3 hp. The benefit of the much faster steering ratio w/power steering far surpassed ANY hp loss, as well as a valid plus @ resale.

I agree, the manual steering is just not great to drive. It's not a lot of effort, but way too many turns. I guess that was one of the big myths about horsepower losses back in those days.
