This case is a really good example of a 'death walk' .. and probably the most extensive one to date. Mr. Porco' brain wasn't damaged in an area where his 'instincts' were impacted and he still had mobility. 90% of the time a death walk isn't a head wound and the person aimlessly wanders looking for help - a natural instinct - but for him to have such a severe head wound and manage to do so many things before dying is just unreal. I seriously doubt that he shaved, brushed his teeth or took a shower. There were no specifications as to what he did. He could have just walked into the bathroom to get a towel to stop the bleeding. If you have no lower jaw how do you brush your teeth or shave? I was hit by a truck once on my motorcycle and I should have died but I was in really bad shock. I had remembered reading that people lost their legs and continued to walk, their head were barely being held on their bodies or they lost a leg and kept on walking. I was the opposite. My shoelace broke and I lost it over that. The next day my face was purple like a grape and I had escaped the hospital shortly after being taken in. I had to feed my dogs but they would not let me go home. They kept calling me and telling me not to go to sleep because I had a concussion and might now wake up. I shut the phone off. Now years later it has been proven that if you have a concussion going to sleep will not make the concussion kill you.

Interesting wording from the mother "I could not ACCEPT..." Yes, because it so extremely difficult to accept the horrifying reality of her son attacking them. She also says "I BELIEVE him to be innocent..." Similar to when people say they 'believe' in something that cannot be proven or is questionable in the eyes of others. She does not say "I know..." The traumatized brain and body have ways of protecting us.
@maddie84152 жыл бұрын
I was just about to say the same thing. I do think that the love for her son actually has her in such strong denial that she truly does believe him to be innocent, so I don't feel that she is intentionally lying, or anything. I bet she doesn't remember any of it. What was most telling was the verbal statement she made saying "I cannot accept that Christopher could have, or would have chosen to butcher us". All I have to say to that is while I find that statement totally fair because she's his mother, it's *not* a statement based in fact and only shows how SHE feels about it all. To be fair, she did make a statement about being "absolutely positive that he was in no way involved" in her written letter, though.
@CindyLouWho772 жыл бұрын
It’s something hard enough for everyone else to accept; a personal so greedy, they are willing to take an ax to their own parents’ heads. It’s possible that, although her face was in pieces, the mother never lost consciousness, and the surgery is what caused memory loss. Or yeah, it’s so unbelievable, particularly for a mother (who is generally the nurturing parent and primary caregiver), to accept their own child could do something so fundamentally horrific, despite the evidence. Maybe she was conscious of the fact he was guilty but felt responsible in some way (it isn’t unusual for women to blame themselves for everything that goes wrong, especially from her generation) and couldn’t bear feeling responsible (which logically, for an outsider, it’s easy to think “Of course the mother isn’t responsible for her adult son murdering his father and trying to murder her”) for him going to prison for the rest of his life. It’s a tragic and depressing story in any event. I hope the poor mother an non-murderer son are able to find some sort of peace.

What gets me the most about this (aside from the fact that Peter went about his routine with those injuries) is the way Chris attacked his parents. Using an axe is very brutal and personal. I hope he never sees the light of day again.
@BlisaBLisa2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about that too... his motive seemed to be money, not anger towards the victims, I wonder why he chose such a brutal and risky way to do it. by risky I mean he risks getting blood on himself and his stuff, risks the victims not dying (which did happen), risk getting injured himself from them fighting back as he had to be pretty close to them to do this. its a miracle there wasn't any physical evidence of him committing the crime. maybe he wanted it to look like a serial killer or something broke in and killed them, maybe it was the only weapon at his parents house he could find, bringing your own adds more risk of it being traced back to you.

However, when he tried to make it look like a burglary, he smashed the alarm keypad, trying to make it seem that the smashing of the keypad is what disarmed it and not the code being entered. While it's obvious in this case that Chris was the killer, you can't jump to conclusions on whether or not somebody is guilty because they didn't react the way you think somebody should react, it's assumptions like this that get innocent people put in jail. Trust me, just trust me, a head injury of that magnitude can absolutely cause a person to forget, I trust that this kid did it. His mother's first reaction was probably correct in that the memory loss kicked in later when the adrenaline was gone and the damage had time to kick in. I believe she doesn't remember or wants to forget so much she has blocked it out. I have seen similar things happen, head trauma and denial about what you want to be true and what you can't imagine being true can erase lots of things.

A) Massive head injuries can do that. A friend of mine had to clean up the mess caused by his girlfriend's father's suicide. He shot himself in the head with a 22 in the bathroom and then walked around the house doing normal activities until the bled to death for wait was estimated to be between a half hour and a few hours... B) Having a Massive Head Injury could have damaged her ability to make new memories. The Police could have gotten a response from her while her memory of the attack was in her short term memory and yet that information was not stored in her long term memory. Also some of the brain damage from the attack could have been at the hospital as the result of diminished blood flow. This is why the Police are quick to interview victims, even f they are not at risk of dying... Also she could have simply been lying to herself for raising a Monster...

Now, this is small town gossip but my mom had driven by the house either on her way to work or on her lunch break or something and told her coworkers what she saw. Her friend had taught both boys and apparently IMMEDIATELY asked about Chris because he was just a real piece of shit from the get go. This part isn't gossip, my brother also went to that elementary school and the fifth grade does a play every year. On the walls in the main hall there are pictures of every fifth grade class play for like.... YEARS... EXCEPT Chris Porcos class because when they shot the Forensics Files, Joan came in and took it so they couldn't get any childhood pictures of him. Sure, probably, but that doesn’t mean that they are responsible for him being a murderer, thief and self-entitled liar. Just look at their other son. From all accounts he is an upstanding young man serving in the military. There are no reports or even insinuations of him wronging anyone. On the contrary, he has received only praise during his studies and career as well as in his personal life. Let’s be realistic also, his life was being viewed under a magnifying glass as soon as his brothers crimes were made known. If there was something his brother had done wrong, it would be quickly exposed. In the case of psychopaths or sociopaths for example. Chris exhibited multiple warning signs for either of these diagnoses. While not inherently violent, psychopaths or sociopaths can be more prone to resorting to violent resolutions to their problems. In addition, if he has one of these conditions, being raised in even the most ideal environment would not have ‘fixed’ his condition. There are many indications in this case that one of these conditions affected Chris Porco.
@huginug2 жыл бұрын
@@_Kyprioth_ psychologists would disagree. Nurture makes all the difference for someone born with these conditions. There are many successful psychopaths that don't become murderers because they were raised in the right environment. The way you describe the other brother is a perfect example of a golden child. It means absolutely nothing that one child grows up "normal". You havo no idea how many of them end up in psychotherapy later in life because under the perfect surface they do have problems caused by lacking parenting. The main reason why the mother is not aming her child is not because she is in denial, it is because she feels guilty that she didn't do anything about the signs of struggle he displayed for many years.

Narcissists are like wolves in sheep's clothing... love you relentlessly until they're finished with you. There's one or more in every family. You just have to know what to look for. These parents were in complete denial... so tragic.

I remember seeing this on an episode of Forensic Files. It was an absolute brutal murder and his mother still stood by his side even though he tried to kill her. Also, I can't believe his father was able to get up and function that morning after the attack. Totally unbelievable

That intro reminds me of the story about the guy who was shot in the head multiple times, including the face. And when he woke up from being shot he just went about his business without any memory of the attack. Then the poor guy gets interrogated by the police for hours and non pick up on the signs that there was something wrong with him. Least of all the bullet hole in his face.

I thought it was a bad start to the episode. Mike giving away the dad dying unawares he was fatally injured. Other podcasts have held the suspense a little more

Christopher ABSOLUTELY did it! He’s EXACTLY where he deserves to be now. Completely unimaginable that Peter got up and started doing his daily routine without realizing what had happened to him! I also feel so sad for Joan. Her life was robbed from her (even though she survived). In some ways perhaps it’s best she live in denial. With everything that’s happened to her, it may be more than she can mentally deal with to believe her own son would do such a thing to her and her husband. 😞 Oh, and Mike, I know quite a few people who would take umbrage at your comment about “Shrek 2”! It’s apparently got quite a cult following of fans who think it’s even better than the first “Shrek”. I personally think those fans are off their rockers, but considering one of them is my own son, I keep that thought to myself! 😂😂😂 Have a beautiful day! ❤ Looking forward to your next one!

Yeah I'm sure the mother doesn't want to accept what her son did because I can't understand if she thought he was innocent, why she wouldn't be doing everything in her power to find the person who tried to kill her & killed her husband and seek justice for the son she believes has been wrongfully convicted. I wonder how her other son feels.

This certainly was a horrific case, and his poor confused mother saying he did it then saying she couldn't remember was heartbreaking. We all know he did it and I just can't imagine seeing your son doing this to your family. Thank you Mike for your take on this case. Several channels have done this story but your channel always comes out with more information and you just give such a great job on your videos. Blessings to you from Texas

It's possible she could remember when questioned by the police, but then lost those memories when she lost conciousness in the hospital during surgery. She was fighting for her life & the brain may have held onto those memories while she was conscious, but when under anesthesia her brain was wiped clean of those memories. But it is also possible that she was confused. When the police questioned her she nodded & shook her head without knowing what was happening due to blood loss, shock & injuries (though I doubt it)
@cUser6912 жыл бұрын
@@loriburnip And it’s also plausible that she was in denial. She knew Chris did it as she initially sd but it was too hard for her to know her flesh & blood killed his father and tried to kill her also
@loriburnip2 жыл бұрын
@@cUser691 Maybe. I find that a little more difficult to believe. To stay quiet when your husband is murdered & you're permanently mutilated because someone tried to murder you. Even if it's her son I have a hard time believing she could keep that secret. Especially since she doesn't know if he'll try to murder her or someone else again.

Insane. The damage he did to his parents...while they were still alive...the brain of a human being is so much more complex than any computer out there. Survival mode. Basically walking dead. Such a heartbreaking story.

The brain is so fascinating in such a surreal horror kind of way. The fact that his brain's 'higher function' parts were destroyed but the more 'base' parts remained intact, meaning that ingrained habits and routines were followed without any real thought behind them. Imagine all of the routines you go through every day, usually without even really thinking about it. That's the base part of your brain at work, the part that was left intact. He was literally unable to realise that he was wounded or anything was wrong. It's both horrible but also kind of a mercy. Certainly better than if he'd realised what was happening and spent his last minutes in terror.
@scypsylock94022 жыл бұрын
It was not his moms fault for changing her story. In fact, with brain injuries the healing process has been known to cause memory issues and loss, and so when she gave the police the identity of who tried murdering her and murdered her husband, she was telling the truth as her brain was not scarred and swelled causing memory loss as of yet. That poor woman...I feel so awful for what she went through and by her on flesh and blood.
@moss81152 жыл бұрын
That’s what I was thinking as well. She was still coherent enough for questions when the police arrived but over time the trauma to her head and brain definitely messed with her memory. And of course now that she no longer remembers what happened it’s probably impossible to accept it was her own son. Terrifying and heartbreaking case.
