If you use a Local account with 10 it doesn't phone home as much. MS don't want you to switch off Cortana as it is their default desktop Search (it uses around 50MB). Just make sure all the privacy settings are what you want for your apps,mic,camera,reporting to MS etc etc. Most options are with Settings.Worst of all in my opinion is still the option by default to advertise on my start menu or start screen (can be turned off), and with the latest update - the realisation that the old skool 'control panel' and all of what it does may eventually be incorporated into the Settings tiled app.

Windows 2000 was designed for business, not home use. Later in 2000, Microsoft released Windows ME for home use. It was really buggy and joking dubbed "Mistake Edition". These OS were last operating systems of the 9X era. Like Vista, ME was also one of the most hated Windows.

Try to get a copy of a software package called Lernout & Hauspie speech recognition! It even has hardware that goes with it, but first, let me talk on the software site of things! This software is old, its designed to work with Windows 95 and 98, and i KNOW that this package works on a windows 2000 machine! My dad used this when i was young just to try it out and its a really funny gadget and it actually performs tasks like opening and saving a text document, replacing and deleting files. The hardware site of things is really funny, it was a parallel device with a mono audio jack on it, and it even did had a small trackball integrated to the microphone, it was a really clever device! But i think you gonna have to update the dictionary ;)
