Actor Ashok Kumar was the first invisible hero in Bollywood. Ashok Kumar first essayed the role of the invisible man in the movie Mr X 1957. Thereafter Ashok Kumar's brother Kishore Kumar played the invisible man in the movie Mr X In Bombay that released in 1964. Ashok Kumar again played the invisible hero in the movie Adhi Raat Ke Baad that released in 1965.

Wow! You’ve got it, Rahoul ! Mr X In Bombay (1964) might have been a forgettable film except for one thing that made it memorable, and will be remembered forever - Kishore Kumar’s song “Mere Mehboob qayamat hogi, Aaj rusva teri galiyon me mohabat hogi”. That sometime brooding, sometime haunting tune is so good that it makes the story of the film inconsequential. Ah, what a sight was the old Flora Fountain. It was as a beautiful landmark! So was The Gateway Of India. It’s as if Kishore Kumar is singing a tribute to the old city of Bombay as he walks on foot through the “galiyan” of the city, and laments what it has become. Teri gali main aata sanam Nagman wafa ka gata sanam Tujhse suna na jata sanam Phir aaj idhar aaya hun magar, yeh kahne main diwana khatm bas aaj yeh vahshat hogi …. Wah! As to why the various incarnations of the “invisible” theme didn’t work is because, like you said, the technology of invisibility didn’t work. You need CGI which didn’t exist then. Even when it did - in later pictures - the execution has to be perfect, not pretty good or good enough. Perfect.

The earliest film, in which hero disappears ,was Naghma, 1954. Hero was Ashok Kumar and the heroine was Nadra. Ashok Kumar was paid 5,000 and worked for one day. He later sued the producer Nakhshab, but settled out of court. Shamshad Begum's song: Bari mushkil se dil ki beqarari ko qarar aaya, was the highlight of this film.

Mr.india,all d way.i was just 9 years when film was released & even at that age i understood & njoyed everything of this film,especially comedy scenes between anil kapoor & sridevi in newspaper office,sri,anil & annu kapoor in editors room while interviewing mr.india and anil kapoor showing his house to sridevi for renting when he says something like " yeh sidiyaan kamaa ki hai,yeh sidiya jho upar jaati hai,yehi sidiya neeche bhi aati hai" sridevi replies if i remember crrctly"waah,kamaal hai".

@Rahoul, I think there was another movie, Sanjeev Kumar's Professor ki Padosan. Hari bhai died during the filming of this movie. The story of the movie was changed to accommodate this sudden event, and the changed storyline had Sajeev Kumar become invisible, and reappear at the end of the movie using body double, dubbing etc.

There was one more invisible film Mr. X in 1984 starring Amol Palekar & Shabana Azmi.. The movie got delayed and released in 1987. The movie was very bad & due to delay the main actors refused to do dubbing. Also background music was copied from Don movie. The movie is available on KZbin.

Yes, I loved MR.X of dadamuni. As a first time without any use of advanced technology like today, its very difficult and dats y it was commendable to make in 1950's. but personally I liked Mr.India bcoz of 3 reasons. a: Concept of device instead of medicine/any solution. b: Its Music and songs and also its parody. c: one more u missed mentioning about the most popular Villian character MOGAMBO. Thanks for sharing Rahoul. Also like to mention that, I really like ur andaze bayaan of all the insights of bollywood. I am a Mumbaikar but now based in Newzealand and true listner of ur channel.
