I was molested by my uncle ( by marriage) from ages 9-14 and When I told, my whom family turned on me, and they treated me bad because of that, them telling other family members that I was liar, and I break up families, etc. which opened the door for the other men in the family to try and do the same, because according to them, no one would believe me anyway. I have been fighting my whole life. I’m 43 now and there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about it, a sound, a smell, anything can trigger a thought of what happened. And certain family members have been trying to reach out to me and re connect with me as if nothing happens, and just their phone calls or text messages triggers my anxiety through the roof like I can’t breathe, my chest gets tight, etc. with all of that being said, it’s a very difficult and tricky situation. Just know that getting it out, doesn’t make everything else go away. I just pray that you have a supportive family.
