Oh my goodness, my sister and I have movie marathons when we visit as well - she lives 3,000 miles away and twice a year we see each other, and we act like children. It's refreshing to hear that others, no matter their age, are still young at heart. And, sometimes it makes me sad when I notice how quickly times flies. And, yes the atmosphere of these oldies but goodies are such good fun to watch! :-)
@MsLoriGold7 жыл бұрын
Hello Maureen! My sister and I definitely order food, have our favorite drink, lots of munchies, wear our pajamas (when she has visited me of late,we have staycations, go to a resort with my Golden in tow), and well get comfy on the sofa. At her place, it's the same scenario, but snuggling with her pet. We have Chinese food or pizza as well! We don't light candles, but the lights are dimmed for atmosphere. And,no matter how many times I've rewatched a movie, if there is a jump scare, I still fly out of my seat and scare the heck out of my dog, poor thing I wish we lived closer, but if I'm still alive and kicking at retirement, I hope to move back to Ontario so we can have more sister time and hang out. My sister and her husband have their own ritual of watching entire series of old shows from the 60s and 70s - it's a great escape from the hectic world. Thank you for the name compliment - 'Gold' refers to Golden Retrievers, I'm not so original! Thank you for sharing your memories and habits, I plan to visit my sister in August and I'm going to suggest candles to add ambiance to our movie marathons. The Shining is one movie we revisit and a really cheesy movie called House On Sorority Row from the 80s,which always reminds us of watching it with our parents at their house on the lake - funny how many fond memories can be formed by just watching a movie with family and friends - sorry - I typed a little novel here- I wish you many more pleasant sister movie marathons - so cool to talk to someone who does the same thing!

MsLoriGold~Age is just a number. I'm 70~I, too, love these old B&W movies. As teenagers my sister and I would watch horror flicks every Saturday night. Then we would go to bed and when one started screaming with nightmares, the other would wake up huddled together and start screaming. Daddy had to come to our room and calm both of us down. We vowed not to watch anymore horror movies~that is until next Saturday night. Then it would start all over again. I miss those times gone by.

I remember the part from 14:45-15:50 really sticking with me. The only noise is Janet screaming, and there's a lot of quick cuts used. The lack of music also makes the scene feel very real. There seems to be a transition of Hammer films that I've only just discovered. The name Hammer came from Will 'Hammer' or William Hinds 1935-37 this was the year he founded the company & still owned it. 'Hammer' was his stage name & came from Hammersmith, London where he lived. I remember Hammer House Of Horror in colour, but ownership had changed many times. This 1963 version is a real treat in film noir style, excellent script, the neurotic to psychotic madness of the female characters, complete with blood curdling screams - it's SUPERB!

Despite all that's happened in the last 40 years the cultural / historical ties between US and UK are still special.

i watched many black and white movies of 1940 1950 and 1960 in you tube i rate this number one for scary and best low light photography. the next best is Scream of fear 1960 or 1961. I really loved this. the photography is top class. thank you Carl boulton.

I really like this movie, and the quality is outstanding! My favorite line = "You might have been all kinds of a gay boy before, but you're married to me now!!" I think that the lady playing 'Grace' looks a bit like Simone Signoret - anyone else think so? Thanks so much for posting this Hammer gem!

I would whole-heartedly agree if I knew who ms. signoret was. I still get roger corman productions and hammer films some what confused. I think it comes from coppola's movie "Dementia 13." this film was a roger corman production but had the atmosphere of a hammer horror film like this one

c.j macq - I agree that some film companies have similar styles that can confuse the viewer as to whom the filmmaker might be. Off topic - I had posted a comment a few months ago where there was a lot of other comments by viewers sharing opinions and gave other movie suggestions - i can no longer see my original comment and can't access the movie suggestions made by other viewers - You were one of the people engaged in the conversation - can you see that thread - maybe the whole thread was deleted for some reason - I'm just wondering because I thought I might be losing a few brain cells LOL!

'ello, 'ello MsLoriGold.... I remember you or sure! I know the thread your speaking of. it was one of the most enjoyable threads I ever participated in and you're right! its disappeared! wow, very weird indeed! strange things keep happening on you tube! the channel owners have the option of removing any comment or thread they choose so maybe they removed that thread for some reason. I just commented on that thread just the other day. I was talking to some cat about The Haunting; the movie and book. off topic... MsLori... lets run off together to some deserted island and live together in joyous bliss forever... what do you say? (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

+MsLori... I just found one of your single comments. scroll down to the "show more" bar and keep clicking it. maybe that thread will show up down there somewhere. ok, I got the island picked out and the sail boat ready... lets go!

Hello c.j. macq - Thank you for confirming I wasn't totally mad! LOL!! Perhaps Carl the channel owner deemed the thread was too long, etc which is totally within their right and I respect that, no problem there - just concerned I was going batty! i probably am LOL! Hehe, c.j. if my Golden can come along to the island that would be a consideration! Seriously though I am under the weather to entertain such dreams. I wish you a fantastic day and thank you kindly for your response and truly appreciate your kindness! Very best wishes to you my friend! :-)

My mom's friend used to take all us kids to see these movies. 😆😆when we had black outs, she used to tell us about the next hammer movie. We would be so excited. Nowadays she would have been frowned upon. But we loved this stuff. This one has such good quality. Thank you for the memories.
