On my dads birthday, I’m reflecting on my appreciation for the example my dad set. I didn’t realize until almost 30 that he subconsciously set the standard for how I expect men to treat me because I haven’t known any different. Girl dads rock 👍🏻

❤🎉 This was beautiful to hear. Yes, your dad set the bar extremely high, but that's a good thing. Knowing that it will be hard for any man your age to match that level of performance is also extremely commendable. My question is whether you can be accepting that all people have flaws, and that you're probably not going to marry a younger version of your father? Will you constantly emasculate your husband or boyfriend for not living up to the high standard princess tier your dad raised you as, or will you love your man for his own traits?

I’m a an old Marine. I used to ask myself why I did I get to come and some of my buddies didn’t… then God gave me a daughter and then a son. I have never had to ask that question ever again. Being a Dad is the most wonderful thing in the world. My kids are grown now and I am so proud of the woman and man they grew up to be. But I would still give everything I have, including my life, to ensure they were ok. That doesn’t make me special … that’s just what real Dads do

@CarpeThatDemon

@@Devilsadvocate2 different inherent expectations maybe? Your wife chose to be with you. Daughters didn’t choose, you’ll always be their dad. So I think that dynamic can (potentially) make it easier to resent someone that you chose, if over time, they let you down or continue let you down. With daughters, our dads are always our first hero. You have more complex matters to tend to in a marriage than with your kiddo. That being said, I think that as long as 2 married people still love each other, with counseling and therapy, this dynamic is sooo repairable. Humans have a funny way of taking people for granted after they’ve spent so many years around each other. I think we’ve all been guilty of it at one point. I wish you the best and healing. I think you’re missing something critical though... Your father is doing dad things for you BECAUSE he’s your papa... Do you want to be a mother to a man that you are romantic with!? So: 1. What are you doing to be deserving of a man like your father? 2. What is your character to be attractive to a man like your father? 3. what do you do to be a a wife or GF who is as excellent as your father is to the person you choose to love? 4. Are you looking for a man or a caregiver and how much care and attentiveness to things do you offer? TL;DR: who and WHAT are you to be deserving?
@CarpeThatDemon
@CarpeThatDemon 13 сағат бұрын
@@internetcancer1672 I made the mistake of wasting many years on a man I ended up mothering. This was such a long drawn out hard lesson. It’s not that I’m missing these critical things, I just didn’t include them in the video. I know it’s a situation with heaps of variables. All these are very good, thought provoking questions. I love that you put them all in list format because this is how my brain has worked the best bringing these issues to my self growth journey and therapy the last decade. I’m not saying I’m a perfect partner, but I do know that I am an ever evolving investment and project I’ll always be working on. Since seeing the quality of character my dad brings to the table in his daily life, it’s been a major driver for me to realize I should be working on myself and growing if I want a healthy, balanced relationship. I also had very low self esteem for the longest time.. so until I worked on and challenged myself to become someone with character that I’m proud of, I didn’t feel right bringing someone else into the equation. It was not until I could answer all of these questions you listed confidently that I felt comfortable committing to a person. It only felt fair. How can I expect a partner to grow into a person i respect heaps if I have not gone in the trenches of self improvement and done the same? I could do a whole other video on this topic cause there’s so much to talk about. Im very self sustaining, happy alone and don’t ask a lot. I don’t want a partner parenting me, because im so self sustaining and trust my own self to get thru life successfully, but I do seek fairness. If I’m bringing a hell of a lot of empathy, growth and attentiveness to a relationship, I only would like to be loved how I love.

You don't have to be perfect to be a man, you just have to treat people with respect, honor your commitments, and love and protect the people in your life. Dads get trashed so much all the time in this culture. Even on Father's Day people can't let people show appreciation for their Fathers -- they'll sh*t on dads even harder that day instead of just being quiet for that day and letting others enjoy it. Mothers' Day is the second most widely celebrated holiday after Christmas. Fathers' Day is nearly the 20th. Can you even name 20 holidays you genuinely look forward to every year? That shows how men, more than women, get taken for granted -- even when they're a great father they're expected to quietly endure being *shxt* upon on a day that's *ostensibly* for celebrating them (which also often coincides with school graduation days -- in contrast Mothers' Day doesn't get double-booked).

@@Dawnarow I’ve worked hard for everything I have, I’ve spent nearly a decade of my time in therapy and working on myself. I bring alot to the table, so I expect that in return. Having these standards and wanting a fair, healthy partnership has worked in my favor since I’m indeed in a happy, healthy and committed relationship. I’m fortunate to have people in my life that see me for more than skin deep judgements. They see my resilience, my nurturing nature, my critical thinking skills, my curiosity and hunger for constant growth. If you think that how I look is an immediate assumption of the amount of work I’ve been through in the last decade to become a quality person who sits confidently at any table.. I really don’t even know where to start with that level of close minded nature

Tell me you don't know her dad without telling me that you don't know her dad. Tattoos are an expression of individualism, and dads want their kids to feel strong enough to where their children do NOT feel that they need someone else's approval to validate their own decisions.

@@sakrulz Considering how tattoos/tattoo parlors have gotten more popular, especially among the college aged, I'm not really sure it's as much of an expression of individualism anymore. Remember when every other d-bag had the "tribal" tattoo on their arm(s)? Personally tattoos in general don't phase me, but being honest, if I see somebody with neck tattoos/a lot of facial tattoos it takes me aback, at least for a moment, I suppose that's the primitive, judgemental "fear/fight" part of my brain. But, I've known a few people that had tattoos that were great people and plenty of "clean cut" people without any that were sociopaths, so you can't judge a book by its cover ultimately. We like to think you can just look at somebody and instantly know what they're about/their inner thoughts, but the idea is patently ludicrous.
@sakrulz
@sakrulz Күн бұрын
@@yellowblanka6058It depends on the tattoo and the personal reason(s) for the tattoo. Yes, some of them are simply a fad, but others, like the semicolon tattoos, IGY6 tattoos, and heartbeat tattoos, are becoming more popular but not a fashion fad. Saying that YOU don't, for any particular reason, like the placement of a tattoo (using your examples), does not mean that that person's personal preferences are of any less value than yours; different strokes for different folks. You are allowed to have your own opinion(s), but you are not allowed to tell others what they can or can't do, as long as they're not hurting someone else. Their personal preference has just as much validity as yours.

@@sakrulz To be fair, where in my post was I "telling others what they can or can't do"? I was just giving my personal opinion on certain tattoos - anybody who knows me knows that I am probably the most "live and let live" guy on earth, I believe everybody should be able to live their lives as they see fit as long as they're not hurting anybody else. Also, you'll notice I said that this would just be my first, gut reaction, while ultimately conceding that the initial gut reaction is really not rational and you can't judge a book by its cover.

Nice to see a youngster these days acknowledge that. Another reason girl dad's are like that is because the dads remember what they were thinking about when they were teenagers and into theor 20s so they know what boys have on their minds and don't want their daughters being used and hurt.

Men remember what they were thinking and/or doing when they were that age.
