I can relate with posting pics at the beach and a lot of things that are the highlight of my day / life at the time but looking back on it, it does feel like it was a fake life + flex, I like the KZbin community and the idea of just posting on here seems nice to me:) insta is good for companies like Gary V but feels a bit too demanding and invasive sometimes for sure When it comes to making content as a young woman. My mind is always much more clear when I detach from that app! I work on making my actual life more fun with Muay Thai classes and that seems like a great place for me to make new friends and I think connection to community is what I really wanted through instagram so now that I realize that I am winning in my own life I can care much less and have much less envy in my life since I’m not spending all my time trying to fit into an imaginary perfect box anymore haha! :)

I wonder if my posts could make people feel insecure or inferior. Would they think I'm just showing off? Would they dislike me because of it? And I often find myself wishing I hadn’t posted anything at all.

Yes! Although feeling jealous IS a choice, but so many people are not at a stage where they can CHOOSE to not feel inferior or jealous simply because their environment is more tougher to get out of. So the best we can do is not fuel the negative fire with social media post that only boosts our ego

Yes absolutely! If you don't know, you won't get triggered or magnify how "not enough" you already feel. But on a moment to moment basis, you CAN make decisions that make you FEEL enough by engaging with the present, and build the momentum around that!
@Zack-y6zАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing this, Patty. I have a lot of respect for you for coming to this conclusion and being public about it. I just deleted my Instagram account last week. And since that was my last social media account, I am now completely off all social media. (Not counting LinkedIn). I was on a vacation overseas when one morning I woke up and got the urge to delete my account. I was originally going to post something I thought was cool, but then it seemed pointless once I thought about it more. I think two of the main reasons people post anything on social media is because they want to flex and because they want to gain other people’s validation. I personally feel comfortable in my own skin and with my own life, so it seemed a little pointless to post for that reason. And second, flexing seems like a bad idea in my opinion because I think all that does is make a lot of people secretly jealous of you. Those people may even start to hate you or wish ill will toward you. And if you truly are living a good life, then I don’t think that is something you want to deal with. At least I don’t anymore. Social media posting just seems like a no win situation to me the more I think about it. Also, like others have stated, if you post something cool but no one likes it, all that does is make you feel bad about yourself. Finally, I’ll end with a Zen story I read that I always think about. Quick version: A student and his teacher were outside at night looking at the full moon. The student was not allowed to talk and supposed to just watch the moon in silence. One night the student said aloud, “It’s beautiful.” The teacher got mad, and told the student he couldn’t truly appreciate the Moon’s beauty if he was focused on trying to describe it. Your story about watching the sunrise made me think about this story 😊.
@PatsplatformАй бұрын
Wow this is an amazing breakdown of what I've always felt in the past towards social media! I love that your aha moment happened while you were overseas - there is something about immersing yourself in a different environment that gives you the perspective shift! You are right that majority of your contact won't really be happy for you if you give off the impression that you are surpassing them, and there's just no validation to seek at all. I used to also have the urge to post a very very nice angle at a restaurant, or near the beach, or when I'm fully glammed up, and I used to feel sick EVEN though I was still on vacation that was supposed to give me inner peace! Then a few months (or even a year later), there were certain people who replicated the exact "aesthetics" that I was creating.. and I realised that EVEN if you profit off flexing short term, you won't win long term! The story about the teacher and student watching full moon absolutely inspired me today! My day has been made with a new quote that I've never seen. What a perspective shift for me!!! Thank you so much for writing this, I enjoyed reading it so much, it was so interesting! Wishing you an awesome day 😊.😊.😊.😊.

@@Patsplatform Thank you! I’m glad my story helped you and made your day! I’m sure the social pressure is much worse for women than men when it comes to flexing on social media. But even I would feel it sometimes, especially because I would fall into the comparison trap. I would either feel like a loser because I didn’t have a stable working career or because I wasn’t as lean and have as big of muscles as some of my friends. Once I just started accepting my own journey for what it is, I felt a lot better. I’m so sorry you felt that way about feeling like you had to take good pictures of yourself, but I’m glad you were able to notice the problem and let that go. Life is so much more peaceful when the only person you try to please is yourself! And I also agree with you about leaving your home culture to see something new. I’m not sure about you, but I’m an American and I think there are a lot of toxic things about our culture. My trip I mentioned was to Kyoto, Japan which was special in a lot of ways. Japanese culture is generally more respectful anyway, but from what I understand, Kyoto is more traditional and spiritual than other cities in Japan. Just being there was so peaceful, and I made sure to visit many of their famous Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines since I am into that sort of stuff. It was great for my soul!

My life’s actually pretty good. My parents aren’t super rich, but we’re upper middle class and doing fine. (I’m not flexing I just want to write about what’s wrong with sns) But every time I’m on social media, I end up feeling less happy with what I have. It’s like there’s no end to wanting more. If you can get Chanel, you start wanting Hermès. If you go to Bali, you get jealous of people going to the Maldives. It never stops. That’s why I quit social media - I realized my life’s not even bad. Social media just messed with my head 😩

I think technology such things as social media is a tool. I use all technology as a tool of motivation and to be true to myself and to improve. If it no longer is that and you are not being yourself but doing things for others, this tool is being used in a wrong way. So I am glad you found your way. I think all tools have different purpose for other people. You should be able to say what you want and ignore the things you deem harmful for yourself. The tools you use will evolve. Don’t let other people dictate what you need to do as long as it doesn’t hurt others. Sometimes there are gray area. There are people who will be hurt by something someone says but don’t be silenced by those who disagree with you or if people misuse your information as long as your approach is true and correct to your own moral standards.

Thanks! Social media is the vehicle, but how we use that vehicle is what affects us the most :)

Sure! although I do find long form contents quite useful, so I think learning to find moderation with it is what works the best :)

Ummmm so you stopped using social media and yet this video exists…on a social media platform??? 🤔 I don’t think you ever stopped living a fake life. People need to stop believing everything they see on the internet honey.

@Patsplatform Ignore that person’s comment. Remember Jesus Loves You ✝️🕊️ Your video definitely helped many people. Social media nowadays is just flexing and living fake lives and all vanity. Remember to ignore invalid hate and criticism. There will always be haters. Even everyone hated Jesus even though he lived a perfect life and died for our sins at the cross. He is risen and living now.

So people who posts on social have no self respect?

If you dont prioritise your well-being to impress others... with or without social media, then do you believe it is self respect?
