Stanford professor and President Trump’s nominee for NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya examines why trust in public health has eroded in the post-COVID era. He highlights the importance of transparency and nuanced conversations between parents and pediatricians to address legitimate concerns about vaccines and other medical interventions. Dr. Bhattacharya advocates for a benefit-risk analysis approach tailored to the needs of individual patients, rather than the "just trust the experts" mindset that dominates medicine and public health.

I went with my son to take his daughter to the Pediatrician. When he asked if they could spread the vaccines out a little more, the doctor said no and they would have to go to a different doctor if they didn’t follow the schedule outlined by the CDC. It’s ridiculous that parents have no choice.

I’ve stopped receiving medical “care” since COVID. I’ve taken myself off the meds I was on (one of which my PCP decided to stop prescribing across the board, and the supply chain for it has been FUBAR’d for years now), and yet somehow I’m still alive. I’m 56; over my lifetime of medical “care”, I’ve been hurt far more than helped. Unless I break a bone or get shot/stabbed, I’m staying away.

Jay Bhattacharya was telling us the truth, and also Prof Ioannidis, both from Standford University. They were demonised over it. Look up the Great Barrington declaration. Many ethical doctors in Austria and Germany are still punished, some are still in prison, some had to pay huge fines, some lost their medical licence, all because they wrote out mask exemptions, or jab exemptions, they followed their ethics. So, I hope to God Jah Bhattacharya will be approved as NIH Director, and I hope Fauci will go to prison, and then to hell.

Indeed, but we learned also that doctors themselves are misled: we've got a course of 2 hours about vaccination. The only thing that was repeated over and over again was that they saved millions of lives... we believed it, how stupid I must confess, we never saw independent studies...but I know very well that every time I heard someone doubt on vac cination, it made me angry. Jay is being extremely careful to cater to BigPharma because he knows who really pulls the strings. Quite the quick leap of faith to claim that autism won't be attributed to vaccines, meanwhile nowhere in this conversation have they covered the toxicity of adjuvants, zero liability, complete lack of safety testing to the highest standards and RCT studies, and the absolute "economics over health" creed of BiPharma. Come on, Jay. You were our hero throughout Covid. Don't tuck your tail to play it safe. Gut this broken system and operate already. This is a weak sauce interview and very disappointed. If I am ever asked to sign away my right to sue the vaccine manufacturer, I don’t care what it’s for, I’m not giving it to my child. There are way too many vaccines on the schedule with too many questions around them to remove the only thing keeping them accountable. We should be looking at this whole atmosphere with serious skepticism if they’re putting us on this conveyor belt with no accountability. Please, Dr B, fix this liability trap and work to restore the public’s trust.

When I started to say that I thought getting the HPV vaccine was a matter of personal responsibility, much like getting birth control, and should be waited for until a person is sexual active and discussed with a doctor, I was asked "but what if they're r*ped?!" If you've got to go that far, you're hurting your case. I also don't see how an STD is highly communicable to the point where widespread vaccination is necessary to protect those who can't get vaccinated with herd immunity.

My very fragile born at 24 weeks adopted son was decanulated at 3 years old though the doctors had said he might not live even 5 years. When I asked them to consider the trach and gastric site reversals they agreed and then without any communication they gave him the MMR and a bronchoscopy by which he did not respond to the anesthesia. We aren't anti Vax. Our oldest was vaccinated as per the schedule. He is also autistic, but i personally think it has more do with increased survival of premature infants than vaccines (my son was premature and the autism rate in kids who were premature is massive), but my husband wanted to vaccinate our 2nd & 3rd on a slower schedule and remove the ones like HPV that we believe are about personal responsibility and should be voluntarily received when they are adults. He asked our old pediatrician why one of the newborn vaccines was necessary, and the doctor started yelling at him "because I'm the doctor and if you don't do all of the vaccines exactly on the schedule you are no longer going to be patients here!" I went to the next appointment, with a different doctor in the practice, and she said their policy is exactly as the government schedule our you're a risk to other patients and no longer welcome, and then pulled out the list and started crossing out the ones they don't do and the ones they think you have a choice on. I was very confused, because she had said the entire schedule exactly as mandated, but yes, she was removing the ones the practice disagreed with. We found a new pediatrician who is letting us do a modified schedule.

I'm in the UK, its not free health care. Its free at the point of delivery. But everyone is taxed to death by the government to pay for it. But the insurance system in the u.s is not the way forward and neither is the NHS. The NHS has insane amounts of waste and layers of bean counters and managers. There are probably twice as many bureaucrats as there are nurses and doctors. But being bankrupted by health costs when you're sick and can't work is actually downright cruel. A balance must be found.

What if your kid reacts badly to one specific vaccine. If you give them five vaccines at the same time, how do you know which one they reacted to? So maybe you opt to not give the additional required doses for any of them. That's why you would stagger them. This is what I told the school nurse. My daughter had had bad reactions to certain vaccines but not others. I figured she'd already had at least one dose of the ones they wanted to boost when she was 14, but she hadn't had the HPV vaccine, so I only authorized that one. Unfortunately, they stuck her in her right shoulder. By the time she got home, she was already listless and feverish, and her shoulder? A lump the size of a mandarine orange. It got so big overnight that by the next day, she couldn't move her arm or hold a pencil. We were worried she might end up with nerve damage. Lucky for us, she was fine after about a week.

My pediatrician was really really old and I guess that in the 60’s and for quite some time after the development of eczema made doctors stop vaccinating a child, so glad they stopped vaccinating me 🤷🏻‍♀️

As a Brit I visited a less propitious school in a US territory and found it in mourning because a popular 15-year-old student had recently died. I asked the teacher, who I was working with, what the cause of death was. She said that the parents had run out of money. I found it unconscionable that the richest country in the world would let a child die in that way. My life has been saved by the NHS (double pneumonia at the age 0f 2) and my recovery from a serious car accident was unimpeded by money considerations. My daughter, when we were living abroad, was diagnosed with inoperable cancer. When I got her home, she was operated on, in the UK, by "one of the best surgical teams in Europe" as a nurse said. It didn't bankrupt me. She is now the mother of two. Yes, with the NHS you will probably need to wait for surgery but not for life threatening conditions. As for "I'll take two", no. The practice GP won't condone it nor will a specialist. It is true that the NHS is stretched as is the equivalent in Canada, but it is not for reasons of profligacy. There are many factors. I have lived in Japan for twenty years now. The insurance scheme is superb. You can see a doctor with a day or two, a specialist within the week with an MRI scan on the same day as did I recently. I think it cost me $80. Yes, 80. You pay a small proportion of the costs. Why is this beyond the US? As for young men paying an inflated premium to cover the costs of older people, well, they'll be old themselves sooner that they might think. Isn't all forms of insurance inflated by the risks of others? You pay an inflated premium to cover the costs of those whose house will actually burn down. Yours might never.

I am British and a user of the NHS. I can categorically state that neither I, members of my family nor any of my friends seek services, treatments of medical supplies that are not needed. To say that NHS users think, “I’m covered. I’ll take two.” is facile.

I have no issue with the overwhelming evidence that childhood vaccinations are safe and effective, but I've always appreciated our pediatrician asking my wife and I if we were OK with the dosing schedule for our two children. We follow the pediatrician's dosing schedule regardless, but being open to discussion helps build trust.

The overwhelming absence of safety control data and RCT studies and complete lack of liability for products does not in any way shape or form equate to “overwhelming evidence” of these schedules being “safe and effective.” But yeah, you can go ahead and shape beliefs on no evidence- it’s called a religion.

I think American medical care is similar to the American education system. There is fundamental disagreement on what needs to be prioritized. So-called 'preventive care' ends up being a ton of resources dedicated to screening diagnostics and visiting that yields little for MOST people. Yet when an acute issue arises- imagine the flu turning serious in a senior, there are no appointments available for two weeks and must go to the ER and be exposed to all manner of new illnesses. To my way of thinking, this is upside down. Acute care MUST be primary, and routine checks are fit into open spaces, like the old days.

I like the idea of restructuring the market for outcomes rather than services, but how would that accommodate people in high risk situations, and the compensation of doctors who take such risks? If the process of value determination accounts for real risk and gives benefits for a higher level of success within that level of risk, great, but one negative outcome to this approach might be that doctors would deny care to the higher risk patients?

"It's free, I'll take two" isn't a thing. When Americans talk about how government funded public healthcare works in other countries, they are generally relying on statistical and economic assessments only, rather than actual knowledge of how the systems are implemented in practice at the service provision level. I have lived in three countries that provide full public healthcare. There are provisions in place to ensure that only required healthcare is provided - indeed the entire system is set up in a way to ensure only required services are provided because the govt itself is fiscally responsible for it. While mistakes and fraud do occur, the suggestion that it has not occurred to governments of nations that provide full public healthcare that they need to safeguard against such abuses is frankly ridiculous and could only come from people who have never engaged in such service provision. It should also be noted that America is the outlier in terms of healthcare coverage. Almost every other first world democratic nation provides healthcare to the public. America should really look at the company it is keeping in terms of making healthcare a private concern.

Almost all the mothers were significantly overweight if they were young, or over 35 years at the time of the child's birth...or it came from occasionally mom, usually dad. Not blaming or shaming, just telling you fine folks what I saw. In my own case, I got it from Dad who was born in 1950, who got it from Grandpa, who was born in 1922.

I'm not looking for confirmation bias, l'm looking for real talk. Also, don't pretend to discuss Cancer as if there aren't already cures that have existed for at least 20 years. Or could these guys be that oblivious? I can pinpoint with extremely high accuracy to documentary evidence for anyone who wants to go down this rabbit hole.

I've heard Dr. Paul Offit say that a study was done and cortisol levels, which increase when a child is given a vaccine, are the same whether one or multiple vaccines are given to a child. Combining them does provide less stressful events for a child in that regard. He also says that our immune systems are confronted with many, many viruses, bacteria, etc daily. Vaccines are another challenge to the immune system, but not an incredible increase above what it is already dealing with from the natural world.
