On a federal level there is the NIH, National Institutes of Health, which consist of 27 different institutes, the most notable being National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which Dr. Fauci was the head of from 1984-2022. From what I’ve seen and discussed with people, the modern concern around general vaccinations revolves around the quantity and frequency of injections, particularly with younger children. Also, there’s still abundant skepticism around mRNA technology, and whether some of the widespread health issues countries are dealing with post-pandemic are causally linked to adverse effects, or whether these simply correlate and the mechanisms that make mRNA vaccines work are largely safe. I personally feel like it’s okay and important to discuss these topics openly, especially when adding in the context of how diseases in the past ravaged entire populations. Meeting skepticism with censorship or questions with insults isn’t the best way forward. Conversations like these could go a long way in advancing public awareness and understanding.
@justindwight54572 сағат бұрын

@ yes, I watched the full video. And my comment was more to present common criticisms rather than my personal views. It was great to see Doctor Mike articulate the common questions and concerns some people have around this topic. There is a world of difference between acknowledging someone’s question and then providing a response, as opposed to brushing off the concern entirely as dumb or dangerous. I think many academics would prefer it if everyone in society just outright trusted their professional positions. However, with the collapse of institutional trust largely driven by the pandemic, rebuilding that trust and general public education on important topics sometimes requires going back to basics.

Good to hear. The speed at which the covid vaccine was developed was largely due to our familiarity with coronaviruses; mRNA technology has been around since the 1960s; using liposome delivery mechanisms were developed in the 70s. There are some 80s and 90s research in there, too. The foundation of the research that went into the development of the covid vaccine is quite old by this point. Individually the technologies were not new. LNPs, mRNA (with modified bases), understanding of translation and targeting of translated protein to cell membranes was well understood. However, what was new was the bringing together of all these technologies into an application for the soul purpose of generating an adaptive immune response, and generation of immunological memory, in humans. Operation warp speed allowed this. I seriously doubt if the mRNA-based vaccines would have been developed without it.

I wish there wouldn’t have been such a short “sweet heart” discussion about corruption. Corruption is highly apparent, and to have a less than 60 second discussion makes it look like you just wanted to be able to say that it was part of the discussion of the video. Corruption can exist an any industry, and its presence should always be assumed. It’s not a question of is happening, but what can we do that we’ve never done before to weaken it as much as possible. I’m very much so pro-vaccine, and in school for physics and computer science (not biology, but I would argue it does add validity in scientific debate), but I think watching this video actually decreased my confidence in how much vaccines / pharma will actually prioritize my health. This is going to be a pedantic critique, but the argument, "it's never happened before" is not good. I'll have to read the papers Dr. Offit references, but that is a clear logical fallacy as "the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." This doesn't mean his other supporting evidence of his argument is wrong either as that would be committing the rather common sin of the "fallacy fallacy". Overall I enjoy and respect his candor in this discussion. I think he would be really great in a Monk debate on the topic.

Risk management is based on, as they talked about, the same principle as poker. That it’s theoretically possible but has never happened and didn’t show up in the trials is not something that’s persuasive in risk management. What about Fauci? He's still very active...
@griffinarcher29114 сағат бұрын
@@jacobkummer2067 He isn't very active in answer peoples' questions, as there were many things he said that he backtracked on, and now he is outside of the public eye
@jacobkummer20673 сағат бұрын
@@griffinarcher2911 He was only in the public eye because of COVID. And he has done several large things that have put him in the public eye since. Also he's somewhat allowed to backtrack - I'm not sure exactly what your talking about, but if I say water doesn't cause cancer, then I learn that water does cause cancer and change my tune, that's not backtracking, thats evolving science.
It’s about the media’s coverage, period. I won’t name anyone but so many representatives acted like there were no legitimate concerns and that they were oracles of truth. Being humble about the limits of knowledge would’ve been a seatbelt for public trust.

Why are vaccine manufacturers given blanket civil immunity from lawsuits related to vaccines?
@maryannteal22093 сағат бұрын
They aren't. However in our litigious society they wouldn't be able to afford to make anything. Folks want a world without danger, unfortunately that isn't this world.

An observation - Offit cannot understand that "accomplished, educated, trained MD / PhD (from Harvard even)" can disagree with him. That is what is alarming. Disagreements are real. It is not mis or dis, it is just information from differing perspectives. It necessitates discussion and debate, not dismissal... Censorship is never the answer.

Depends on the information they are disagreeing on. Good evidenced facts are facts.

Not quite what he said. He doesn't care with people disagreeing with *him*, he cares that people disagree with the *evidence*

Disagreements are real but when someone doesn’t listen to facts and insists on saying things that are demonstrably false and demonstrably politically motivated, things happen.

It’s been explained over and over again. You aren’t listening or don’t care unless it comes from a source that your bias wants to trust. So answer me this, what part of vaccine trials was skipped in the covid vaccine trials?
