oh also, the problem was the chokepoint in combination with the archers on the ridge.... so... attack the chokepoint while buring the archers on the ridge was off the menu? discipline and armor wouldve been in favour of the attacker in such a chokepoint with the archers out of the equation. or use tar or wet materials to create lots of smoke inside the cave. The first 50m or so couldve been cleared by a dragon easy.

I think the show covers the logic of this just fine - by coming alone and then fighting a hopeless battle, they kept the Crab Feeder and his forces distracted. He didn't retreat because he felt he was watching his greatest enemy die, and by the time he tried to run Daemon was close enough to chase him down.

You all realise how hard it is to hit a Single moving Target with bows? The arrows need to travel a Bit before reaching Destination. Also a lot of Cover was on the field. And its kinda Overkill to send the whole army out for one guy. A) because it increase the Chance of Friendly Fire and B) you dont throw your full ressources on the Problem when you know there are still troops around the area somewhere

Daemon isn't connected to the night king. It was explained in the original series who the night king was and it wasn't Daemon. The NK was one of the first men captured by the children of the forest and turned into the first wight. And none of his commanders were Daemon either. They were the sons of craster that were turned. So between the two of them, you would've had quite the conflagration. The crab feeder and the triarchy forces got scorched so as is with just sea smoke in that scene. Imagine if they had a dragon like Barlerion or Vhagar there??? Game over, man... Game over!!!

What gives me the chills is after Daemeon emerges from the cave ... dragging only a head, neck, thorax, and right arm and hand behind him ... I've only seen the show thus far from clips, and shorts, but he comes across as a battle-hardend warrior, who is basically a human chop-saw: anyone getting near him is cut down in a precise, but brutal, fashion. ... but even so ... dragging only so much of his victim behind him meant whatever he left, aside from the lower legs, as in the shins, and the feet, was chopped to pieces in what ever fight there was, in a truly brutal way ... Matt Smith is continuing to impress with his acting range ...

It's a rare sympathetic example. They all strongly suspect that he's up to something, and since it's Daemon Targaryan, a guy widely infamous for his love of fighting and general wild aggressiveness, him pulling a stunt like this by himself isn't going to reflect badly on the tradition or others. Case in point, they have dozens of archers one word away from unleashing a volley on him from all angles, as well as a squad of swordsmen surrounding him before they even get within arms' reach, and they have dozens more warriors ready to charge out and put him down. Daemon also isn't faking a surrender out of spite or pettiness; he's actually trying to win the battle, and since the other side fully prepares for just such a battle before it even starts, it becomes more of a true battle than a betrayal of tradition/rules of war. Also, the other side views it as a chance to take out Daemon, which they nearly do, so they probably don't have an issue with Daemon's stunt since it's an opportunity for them anyway.

It is hard to get fire and smoke to go into a cave. The trick with fires and caves is to use the fire to draw OUT the oxygen. They don't burn or die from smoke inhalation, but suffocate. Apparently, my medieval MacLeod ancestors in some clan war did just that

This video is getting a lot of hate in the comments. I think it would do with a better title that cleary labels it as a "tribute video," so people who click on it know they're not getting the Battle of the Stepstones unadulterated. That being said, I think the song syncs beautifully with the battle. Especially elegant are the way the intro ends a little past 6:20, when Daemon begins taking violent action, and the way the song begins its final phrase before the outro before he's leaving the cave shortly after 11:20. I think this video was well made by somebody who likes GoT as well as Iron Maiden. Other than recommending the video be titled so as to create the proper expectations, I think an excellent job was done here.

@@shesh_o it's the worst scene ever,the crabs had the advantage of the caves but decided to come out to fight a single person,daemon just ran in a straight line but the feared archers never bothered to hit him,what if the crabs refused to come out of the caves what would he do?people abandoning a strategy that has kept them safe from dragons for years is madness, in the Daenerys scene you could feel the tension when they were fighting the white walkers and were almost killed only for Daenerys to swoop in in the last minute to save them, you could feel the relief from the audience but in this scene we know that one will face thousands of crabs but there was no tension because he was already protected by plot armour and we already knew what was going to happen.

​@@stevem7192 Precisely ... which made them so lethal for those being attacked ... and user, whom, like snipers, if caught, were often summarily executed upon capture ... In fact, if the cave had a narrow exit, it would have made things worse, due to the 'chimney effect' more air would rush in, turning the cave into a furnace. If it was a blind cave, the worst death would be suffocating on the choking hot, dense smoke, as everything combustible would burn. But once all the oxygen is spent (oxygen being, with an ignition source, and fuel, part of the 'Fire Triangle') all that dense smoke will extinguish the fire itself, but not before everyone is dead from mostly smoke inhalation ... ... but being stuck in a cave with an air flow ... that would be worse. They would be cooked alive, until the combination of the smoke, and sheer heat would kill them. As long as there is enough fuel, and air flow, those trapped would be, if the fire is hot enough, reduced to no more than smoldering bones, some reduced to ash by pyrolysis ... Personally, I rather be quickly suffocated, than be burned/cooked alive ...
