Technically, F35s aren't piloted by the crew. The aircraft flies itself and configures itself, and the pilot just tells the plane where he/she wants to go. The computers make nearly all the decisions on how to deliver the pilot's wishes. Very different from the previous generations of fighter aircraft where the pilots controlled most things directly with assistance from computers for stability.

@@moparjr89 mans thinks actual war planes work like ace combat games. max top speed and maneuverability mean nothing in modern combat. the 22 was a mistake of an aircraft to build, which is why they dropped it for the 35 asap. missiles are too good. stealth is too powerful, a single platform that can multi-roll is always more useful than a dedicated fighter when the primary function of a dedicated fighter (winning a turn/energy dogfight) is obsolete. and yeah, "the age of the dogfight is over" has been said before, and the phantom suffered for it. but that was primarily because the missiles still sucked and the IFF systems did to. we're WAY beyond that now. have been for years. additionally, theres something to be said about how the sherman wasn't the best tank of the war because it had the most armor or biggest gun or the fastest speed, but because it did ENOUGH and was cheap and easy to mass produce. even the MOST EXPENSIVE VARIANT of the 35 is nearly 35 million dollars cheaper per unit than the 22. cheapest is $61m cheaper. means more can be built. in short, asside from a slightly higher service ceiling, the 22 offers NO real advantage over the 35 and is more expensive to do that. even the slightly shorter range of the 35 is more than completely mitigated by the fact it can carrier land and launch, therefore can go anywhere a carrier can deploy it from, while the 22 cannot.

As I've come to expect, theres no other channel that even remotely rivals Dafydd Phillips for aerial photography. This video is no exception. Stunning images! In a shoot you did at Mach Loop a couple years back, I commented that F-35s seemed scarce relative to the F-15s. But now, F-35 is the proverbial 'prom queen' taking center stage. A least to my eye, it looks like they're allowing multiple F-35s to be more closely stacked, right behind one another, than allowed for other jets. They're also stacked closer than those of prior year events. I wonder if its advanced sensors, aerodynamic controls and direct machine-to-machine communications now permit a tighter clustering.
@DafyddPhillips Жыл бұрын
Many thanks Greg and appreciate your kind words.
@jimbob100-d3l Жыл бұрын
Dude you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. The "stacking" literally comes down to how close the pilots feel like being to each other and how many jets are in the formation. Your last sentence is absolute nonsense.
@gregparrott11 ай бұрын
@@jimbob100-d3lAre you the 'Oracle of Knowledge'? Returning to reality, I assume you are vaguely aware of something called 'turbulence', and that it is a GATING factor for aircraft separation distances during launches and landings within a given path, that that it is applicable in flight as well? Then again, given your derisive comment, you probably aren't. As for the 'absolute nonsense', I ask you - why WOULDN'T the military exploit the advantages afforded by their realtime communications? They will be doing just that with their Gen 6 'Loyal Wingman' program. Grow up, bud. (P.S. I worked several years in the defense industry, on inertial guidance components for fighter jets.)
@jimbob100-d3l11 ай бұрын
@@gregparrott If your first claim was true, then we wouldn't fly in formation at all. So that's just completely false and not a factor. And for your second claim, how exactly do "advanced sensors" help someone fly closer? Spoiler alert: it's literally the opposite. Flying close means looking outside at the other jet to fly formation, not using these "advanced sensors" of yours. Grow up and stick to your own lane, bud. When you say random things about something you are not knowledgeable of, you just sound like an idiot. And no, working on guidance components for fighter jets doesn't mean that you understand how we operate.

And yet I would still fly an F-15E given the opportunity every day of the week. Was glad I stuck around for the few squeezed into this footage. The F-35 is very impressive, but something about being born in 1989 and " growing up " with the 90's era planes just still gives you the wow factor.

I don't know why but aside from the awesome aircraft and performance, I'm always utterly amazed by the condensation forming on and in trails behind the wingtips as the aircraft pull sharp turns. The first time I saw that I was absolutely floored ..... and the amazement hasn't decreased much at all in the years since
