When I was in graduate school, I worked two summers at a DEC plant right next to what was then called Barnes Field, an Air National Guard base in Westfield, MA. At the time (1978) they flew the F-100, and we saw them frequently. One morning, I pulled into the parking lot for work, heard a couple of turbines whining and decided to hang around and see who took off. Two F-4s, in formation, with afterburners. I had my fingers in my ears and the noise was still loud. I was less than 300 yards from the end of the runway, and the noise got even louder when they banked away from me and I got the full force of the afterburners. Apparently, they had stopped for fuel or something, and decided they were a bit heavy. Still one of my most memorable free airshow experiences.

Im pretty sure the F4s are retired from active duty, last role was during the Recon F4 shot down in Syria. We purchased more F16s until Typhoon and Kaan. They might be listed as active but will never be used again unless WW3.
@mehmetfatihozmisirci5893Ай бұрын
@@TuAFFalcon Nope, they're seriously still in active duty. Turkish Phantoms were upgraded for the bombing missions, they're already not for air superiorty. So, they're still a good choice for the heavy bombing missions and staying as a active asset. If I'm not wrong, they were used in Fırat Kalkanı or Zeytin Dalı operations, maybe in both. But I am sure that they were doing their duties at 2020 and 22.

That low pass was no joke! Had to watch that a few times. The second angle confirmed it was as intense as it looked! Awesome, thank you for sharing. That deserves a place on highlight reels!

We call him Fatherhood, we also call all modern planes like F16's female, but Phantom has a different place.. he is FATHER. Because he is analog and to use him like this requires muscle power other than ability.

Great stuff D P, the F-4's just look like a bad ass fighter, you brought back some memories for me, I worked at George AFB from 1981-1986 and I think we had about 150 F-4's, a squadron of OV-10 FAC's and a couple of F 106's at the Alert squadron......thanks

That must have been incredible to experience the F-4s up close and personal. I'm in my mid-60s and have a Naval Air Station in my hometown of North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
