I demo'd the Van in a skills competition . Basically you had to surf, ferry, attain, catch certain eddies, do slot moves, etc. I was blown away with how maneuverable this boat is. Now I did not even attempt the stern squirt bonus, but all the turns came easy, I was even catching eddies that I do not usually catch. I paddle a 9R in winter and I have paddled the Scorch and Scorch X. I would say that the Van and the 9R handle very similar. The van definitely handles better than the X, probably the same as the Scorch Large. Now I love 9R and Scorch, but the Van is right in there. I will probably rent it for a race or 2 before I decide to buy (My garage is kind of full)

I just got to demo one of these on a few familiar runs and I'm ready to buy one. First paddle and I knew I wanted it. I've had some old school long boats plus a greenboat and stinger. This is my fave.

Yeah It floats very high out the water and planes out with the flat hull and high rocker so very different feel in a 12’ kayak

Great review, as always! Can't wait to get hold of one. Probably just me being sensitive, but I found the background music just a bit too much - sometimes hard to hear what you're saying.

Yeah my mistake in my headphones sounded like it was perfect mix then uploaded and rewatched I was like really 🤬so you know how it is if someone else noticed it then you know you noticed it I started doing the background to kill some the dead air spots and I lower the db on it when talking or something of use but missed it on this one in a few spots and you know thanks Matt for actually giving good contribution feedback without name calling or insults like 90% do that’s why I have respect for you and know your a stand up guy!

@@WadeHarrison on a side note, have you ever made the moves at flipper from bottom to top? I heard its been attained, but i've never seen it. I know the slalom racers have gone up the entire olympic section.
