Generally in the US; 26,000 pounds GVW or a vehicle and trailer combo with a combined GVW of 26K is the magic number that defines a commercial vehicle, and there are many exceptions to this rule based on usage. Depending on the model year of a given 1/2 ton pickup (Ford F150 for example), the manufacturer rates the GVW somewhere between 8,000 to 12,000. The biggest thing is how the brakes are designed and newer vehicles have heavier capabilities. Some new 1 tons have GVWs up to around 14000. I own a Ford F-550 with a GVW of 19,600 pounds. Technically its classified as a 1-3/4 ton truck. Its a special body service crane truck for repair of equipment, but in flatbed form could haul quite a bunch of hay bails! I do not have to keep a commercial driver's license for this truck as it falls under the 26K limit. Its registered and insured as a personal vehicle, that I use to work on old farm equipment for antique shows. I'd be curious to know how the UK looks at medium to heavy trucks and how similar the laws are to ours.
@TheRogueBro3 жыл бұрын
Talking about weights, in the UK you can tow a camper van with a VW Jetta... in North America "Towing Not Recommended". Heck, the towing capacity of the Jetta in the UK is 2,000lbs... that's almost the same as a Tiguan over here (2200 lbs here... but 4800lbs in the UK for the Tiguan). Seems like the UK may allow for higher loads as long as the trailer has brakes.

What you could do is plough the new field together with the existing grass area, then make and sell silage when you don't need hay or silage for feed. The sold silage can go towards the money needed to buy the field that completes the rectangle by the farm.

I know I'm late, but just a confirmation, most of the farms around where I live (Lancaster area) would use a large pickup such as a ram 35 or even 5500 (when they aren't Amish farmers that is) the 3500s GCWR (combined weight of vehicle, trailer, and load) is upwards of 16 tons with the diesel engine, and the 5500 is practically a semi truck. I've seen a few 6500 but they're rare because ram stopped making them (some legal crap with Daimler or smt).

BTW, Chopped Straw Mod gives you a layer of free fert for corn, sunflower, and soybeans regardless. However, it does indeed only fert on where your combine has sprayed its trash, so you will always have some spots to touch up on with a low width fert device. Quite nice, as those crops are at the low end of profitability (even though corn can be chopped, and soy/sun has extremely low logistics costs which is very advantageous with FS22 maintenance and fuel savings - this is the best balance to these 3 bottom crops has seen in FS)

I’d recommend field 48 it’s got large enough area in the back by the river to put a large building like a shed or production(I use it for silage) and it’s a nice flat field. It’s also more local than that small field you bought. It’s become one of my favorite fields to work on this map.

Interesting thing I found out a week or so ago. The hauling trailers for Seed, Grass etc, you can link them together. I bought 2 of them on sale 23,000 L trailers cost about $10k each. plus my forage cart with silage additive all 3 of them link together and I have a train of trailers when I take the silage to the live stock to sell it. 23,000 L in each 69,000 L total and it was cheaper and bigger than the largest trailer.

Magic number for towing in the US is 28,001 pounds. Anything over that weight requires a special license known as a CDL. Get caught towing more than the above amount and it’s a massive fine. Hauling hay for sale without a CDL can result in even more fines as it’s considered a commercial venture. Interesting enough is that hauling to a rodeo where you have the potential to win money technically requires a CDL. It’s stupid but it’s being in-forced more now due to people being stupid and hauling heavy when they have no business hauling with disastrous results. The bales your hauling IRL weigh about 1,200 pounds each so roughly 4-5 tons which is about 3-4 tons more than that trailer would be rated to safely carry. Weight varies depending on moisture content. A fresh 3string bale of alfalfa is roughly 120# straight out of the field. While the same bale in 1 month can loose a good 8-10 pounds in water weight. I know this as I move the bloody things daily. Would love to see someone mod a proper 3wire bale with the stacker and a squeeze loader. Think giant forklift that instead of getting under the stack of hay actually squeezes the bottom bales tightly together to lift the entire stack in one go. 1 squeeze is roughly 35 bales, 4 squeezes typically fit on the average 40’ semi flatbed trailer.
@DonGorgen3 жыл бұрын
4:10 There is only 1 13,7m case header in the basegame that unfold into it's own header trailer. 6:05 Who cares about a field flipping rule, this is not hard mode or multiplier. Just go ahead and harvest every field on the map if you want lol. (Just take out a loan to "borrow" the larger fields aswell, repay before midnight and you won't be charged interest) 10:53 Working in the fields (even if you enjoy it) get monotonous and time would seem slow, putting it on a worker while doing other stuff makes time seem faster imo. 14:15 Don't think you could even get the worker to drive the combine on the road while the header is attatched, atleast they refuse to do so on console. 18:22 Not to late to make a smaller bale until the current bale have exeeded the capacity of a smaller bale. 19:25 Yeah no resell value on the grape vines, also the field you put them on will be gone and need to be replowed. 19:32 I've tried using 2 pruners at once, but found out the 2nd one was just barely out of reach to be able to do 2 wines at once.
@skylinelibertarian38353 жыл бұрын
I play on Xbox, and send the largest CLAAS combines with headers on trailers attached on the back all over my test map on HB. They don't do great through the towns. And if you put the end destination anywhere but on the main road, they will say the destination is unreachable. If you're referring to having the header attached as if for harvesting, no, they will refuse to go anywhere on the main road, because they sense the header as an object that is impeding their movement. The grapes being processed into raisins are insanely more lucrative than olive oil, and even grape juice is decently better than olive oil. But he'll want that entire field as a vineyard to if he wants a quicker turn over on investment. Grapes are weird in that the more money you put into creating new vines, the quicker you'll get a return on your investment. You just can't abandon it while it's still tiny, or you will tend to loose way more than you would if you quit later on. Very strange, the way the grapes are in this game, but you got to stick with them. Once you've spent money on equipment, you'll only lose more money the earlier you quit.

@Kieran Machin it is miles ahead of what 19 was. I don't even try to set the header on the trailer correctly anymore, Just drop the header, and as long as it's touching the trailer, it gets placed precisely, and locked on. I often just drop it perpendicular on to the trailers back side, and the trailer does everything else for me.
@skylinelibertarian38353 жыл бұрын
Side note; I did see a worker make a terrible turn with the combine, in one of the town areas on HB, knock the header off the trailer and got himself stuck.
