Quarantine has changed Iain.... Jokes aside, thanks for filling in Jess, you fill the role well. Always glad to see a new OTSR, a 41 min one is super appreciated with everything going on atm. Much love Gary, Iain, Jess, David, Linda and the rest of the crew I'm missing.

I can't believe you guys are talking about this movie. Nobody talks about Dagon. It is u ironically my favorite movie of all time. The atmosphere in this film is palpable. The acting is mesmerizing. The effects far exceed what should expected of B movies. For anyone who has ever gone to a strange place before, this movie really recaptures that feeling of isolation and paranoia. Great adventure film as well. 5/5!

Paco (or Francisco) Rabal was a famous and renown actor from the 60´s. He has worked extensively in TV, film and theatre. He has had a really distinguisehd carreer: a Cannes best-actor award, two Goyas best-leading performer wins and he worked with Buñuel in Viridiana. He has always been one of the best performers the Spanish industry had to offer to the world. I would recommend him in Goya in Burdeos and Alomodóvar`s Átame.

I couldn't agree more with some of your comments guys. This film is really frustrating! It has some fantastic scenes and is very faithful to Lovecraft, but the pacing and the acting as well as the direction - which is unusual for Stuart Gordon - just seems off. I really enjoyed the beginning and the end, but large parts of the middle section were just chase scenes...and badly paced ones at that. You should review The Colour Out Of Space. Richard Stanley adapts Lovecraft, and fucking nails it!

Love this film.It kicks ass ,and stays in the Lovecraftian groove.Few films do any decent adaptations of his works.Another that predates Dagon , is "Dark Waters" (not the haunted apartment/watertank movie) ,made in the early 80,s ?,leans heavily on Inmouth. GREAT review of an excellent film.

I remember seeing the cover art for the VHS as a kid an being freaked out by the hideous fish-man freak with huge teeth, wasn't familiar with HP Lovecraft at the time so had no idea of the source material it was based on which possibly made the film all the more creepier for me at the time I first saw this but is a decent horror flick, that face off scene is really well done

4:21 Ditch the bitch. 13:02 Most people don't flail around like that when they fall. It doesn't do anything anyway. 13:04 Guaranteed injury right there. People in movies always withstand falls from ridiculous heights, even crashing through glass, and we're expected to believe that they barely incur any injuries aside from nicks and scrapes. There's a scene toward the end of Deep Rising where the villain tries to "Bruce Willis" his way onto Treat Williams's boat and ends up breaking his leg - only to then find out that they rigged the boat (along with an explosive payload) to crash into the cruise ship. 23:35 It's not "murder" if it's self-defense. It's not "murder" if they're enemy combatants. These very much ARE enemy combatants. 30:16 Why do movie people expect us to believe that tiny flames produce that much ambient light? Even campfires don't produce much ambient light.

I watched this film a couple of days ago. I really enjoyed it, despite the bad acting, special effects, etc. It really points out Lovecrafts work and it is absolutely brilliant. What I love about the director that made Dagon is his twists. This movie gave me the creeps and a particular scene really scarred me. Great film

This film was a coproduction between smaller channels. In Spain, there are local channels which cater to other official languages (Catalonian, Galician, Basque), and they were part of the producers of this film. There was also one small private channel, Canal Plus, which at the time was the only pay-for channel at that time in Spain. Also, all European broadcasters need to fill out a high percentage of hours with made-in-Europe content. Once this percentage has been filled out, with cheap series, live programming, or even films like this, they don´t necessarily know what else to do with the final products. For me, all this explains a lot. For example, that´s why the sister´s name is Uxía, which is a Galician name, which is pronounced nothing like the way you are saying it.

And the fishermen town is very much a poor Galician fishermen village, which there used to be plenty of in Galicia. Now many of them have been reconverted into middle-class second-home summer villages.

i loved this film, hated the name. it was very different than the book, and the towns folk seemed like "random mutants", rather than turning into deep ones. i half expected, (i know different story, but still...) the "Innsmouth look" to be a thing, somewhat canon and somewhat constant. name a movie after a story, chances are folks that see it are folks that read the story. this film was more "The Shadow over Innsmouth" than "Dagon" either way small complaint for a grand film that lives in my collection.
