I absolutely love this film. The slow-burn feel of the film could put some people off if that's not what they're used to, but me, I loved it.

Saw this loads as a child due to the 80s phenomenon of your film catalogue being mainly what you recorded from the telly at Xmas. Will have to have another look. Also I weird to think the war was only 25 years ago at the time this came out.

Trivia: The setting isn't actually filmed in detroit, but Dallas, TX. I recognized the skyline right away when I first saw this film. In fact, a few years ago, Peter Weller showed up in an OCP car for a reunion party there, right outside city hall - OCP HQ in the film

While listening to this, I had the thought that when it comes to Stephen King novels and the movies not quite matching up or there being missing details. In that time, eeryone was reading the novels. So, someone watching the movie wouldn't be lost in that era.

Charlie is not a chicken so she isn't 'clucking'. She's clicking. There aren't any chickens in this movie that I recall... Did you guys ever see Speak No Evil? I think this movie would send Ian into a coma. What's considered socially acceptable behavior, when is it appropriate to ask questions as opposed to minding your own business....family dynamics and what's considered "normal"...those themes. They seem to be an interesting point brought up regularly in this review.

Everyone forgets that Gabriel Byrne's character Steve is a psychiatrist himself. Or else no one seems to take this into account when analyzing Annie as a character. So basically, Annie should be getting free therapy from her husband...didn't do any of that family any good. They were always in over their heads. AND knowing that Charlie is going to this party, without thinking to send an epi-pen with the kids. Like, how could you not keep an epi-pen on hand for instances like this? I get it. Charlie probably doesn't socialize very often but it was her job as her mother to make sure Charlie was prepared for such instances. Totally negligent on her part. Yeah, sure she has a lot on her mind, but still. I don't hear other folks talk about these details in their reviews/reactions either ;)

I've been meaning to touch on this for while, but what is up with Iain's logic in some of these reviews. Like seriously, he hates the movie so much and then spends the whole review hating on the entire film even more and doesn't want to acknowledge anything good about it. It's like his brain is stuck on black and white thinking mode and I always wondered what his problem was, especially in some of the older reviews where he doesn't even like when Gary likes something about the movie. It's like he's thinking: "I hate the movie, so you have to hate it and there isn't anything good about the movie at all." It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Just because you like a particular aspect of a movie you don't like, doesn't mean you're "praising" the film or "defending" it. Their are shades of grey, not everything has to be one side of the other all the time, Iain.

The world.SHÖULD end if it means Marty cannot get high for a final two minutes. So Marty gets the chance to either end the world so he can fire up another joint. And so Marty sacrifices the world for a couple of extra moments of stonerdom.

One of the fascinating things about this movie is if you look at the plethora of fan art which has been created featuring Snake Plissken almost every drawing/illustration shows him as this jacked up muscle man when the reality is that whilst Russell was in good physical condition - he wasn't a body-builder by any stretch of the imagination. But what Russell does do is ACT like he's that guy.

THEM! was, in fact, the very first Nuclear Age monster movie (The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms doesn't count, because it wasn't a mutant) and the very first Big Bug movie. It was also the third-best monster movie ever made, behind 2) Gojira and 1) Jaws.

In concept, it is not bad, it has interesting elements, and things like that truly happen in real life in true crime, however indeed the movie has many amateur aspects that diminish the movie, in the hands or a more experienced writer/director this could have been a good crime drama
