1994 - 1996 Hijets have an electronically controlled automatic in which the power button makes the shift points more aggressive. It looks like a great feature! You can also tell if the capacitors in the controller have gone bad if the power button doesn't light up any more when you press it...

Are auto trans in kei vans trucks known to be weaker, inferior reliability performance wise than the 5spd? 5spd cruises at a higher max mph?
@Waybeforethefame
@Waybeforethefame 8 ай бұрын
people like to get 5speed over auto because a 5speed is easier to fix if something terrible happens. You can always buy a clutch or fix the problems with the 5speed. But an auto if it fails you need to spend 2k+ to get one from Japan@@animebobacafe

Here in Indonesia it's body style called Angguna (angkutan serbaguna/multi purpose carrier). Yet in 90's era this Hijet came to Indonesia without much features except for bigger engine. Even AC was still considered luxury feature.
@PlatinumNath
@PlatinumNath 5 ай бұрын
Most Angguna's in Indonesia are modified, not stock deck vans from factory. If there's any that are stock deck vans or double cab vans they'd usually be rare even back then. Any surviving Angguna's now are mostly chopped up Mitsubishi Colt's, since their overall boxier panels compared to other popular vans makes it easy for cutting up without risk.

@@DJAYPAZ "but they can’t be road registered." i've heard it several times, but why? it's a car, four wheels, has an engine, brakes, mirrors, headlights, seatbelts, airbags and so on. why it can't be road registered? here in russia afaik any vehicle that falls under the vehicle category, there are a lot of categories, kinda m - mopeds, two or three wheels, 50 cc, less than 4 kwt and max speed less than 50 km/h, b - cars under 3.5 tons with 8 seats exclude driver's seat and the like can be registered (actually mopeds no need any registration).

@@johndgt Because the US wants to force us to drive larger vehicles that require us to buy much more fuel. You can legally drive kei trucks on the road if they are 25 years old and older. As I understand, the 4wd automatics don't have low range. That is definitely a deal breaker ! But even if they had low range I wouldn't buy an automatic because IMO they are inferior and that goes duble for CVT's, besides I don't want anyone else even asking to drive my vehicle, even my homies. This is one of the reasons among many I have only owned an manual transmission vehicles since my first vehicle which was a 4 speed manual 1986 Toyota truck I bought in 1988. Ofcourse back in 1988 most people still had the skills to drive manual transmissions, now it is actually fast becoming a theft deterrent. Did you ever see the video of three young guys trying to steal an old lady's car, but BETWEEN THE ...THREE OF THEM... I live in Japan, and enjoy driving and cycling around the countryside. Kei cars are the most popular vehicle outside the metro areas, and they can be seen everywhere. They are popular because they are the most economical kind of car you can get. They are less expensive when new, they go a long ways on a little gas, they get a discount on insurance, biannual inspections, and road taxes and tolls. They are certainly not powerful or fast, but they get you from point A to point B cheaply and reliably. These cars are not sold new in the US because they do not meet American safety standards. America has this absurd and silly notion that to make roads safer, car manufacturers must make safer cars. Japan learned long ago that it is impossible to make a safe car, because a car can only be as safe as the driver who operates it. Rather than focus on making cars safer, Japan requires drivers to be safer. Cars sold in Japan do not have the same safety features found in cars sold in America. Japan market cars do not have the bumper, door and roof reinforcements, they don’t have relocated gas tanks, or any of the other safety features which the American federal government demands be installed in American market cars. But, the traffic fatality rates in Japan are only about one-fifth what they are in America, despite having millions of Kei cars on the road, many of these roads being very busy (Japan is the size of California, but with 3 times as many people). Japan’s drivers licensing standards are very high, and Japan’s traffic laws are very severe. Japan doesn’t believe in the concept of “accidents,” any vehicle collision is considered an act “negligence” by the part of the responsible driver. Any collision which results in injury is a crime, any collision which results in a traffic fatality will incur a mandatory prison sentence and permanent loss of driving privileges. DUI manslaughter has a minimum prison sentence of 15 years. Because the standards are high, the the laws severe, people drive more safely. And because people drive more safely, in Japan you can get a license plate for pretty much anything which has an engine and wheels.
