I think this is one of the best comebacks i have seen in a while. Brian Yang - complete underdog, has never been in a World Tour Final before, comes back in the 3rd game being 15:19 down using the forehand serve to win out of the blue 21:19. Amazing!

Yes! And my next question is if Brian or the coach had this stroke of bravery and genius
@sai_beo
@sai_beo 5 ай бұрын
Not exactly ‘out of the blue’ - the backhand serves were being exploited. Ginting kept pushing deadly shots to the corners. Brian had the correct response to it by going for high forehand serves.
@p_nilly
@p_nilly 5 ай бұрын
@@sai_beo to see any forehand high serve in professional men's singles is extremely rare. A tactic switch might have been flick serves instead (which Yang did 1 but he stuck with the high serves instead). I don't remember the last time I saw it happen, do you know?
@sai_beo
@sai_beo 5 ай бұрын
@@p_nilly Yeah indeed high forehand serves are rare in professional MS. Thats what makes this game so special. It is a professional level game but played with junior level style for various reasons. Flick serves does not really work in this game, either, since Ginting is just too fast to respond to those and Yang cannot handle such speed with consistency right off the serve. I remember flick serves being played in the Olympic 2012 Lee vs Lin final.

Unbelievable win❗...was not expecting it, but...Wow❗...what a match!👀 I was in tears at the end to see Brian win.🥲 So incredible for Brian and for Canada. Confidence is key, and Brian believed in himself and his skills to the very end. But that forehand high serve was genius, and I'm sure Ginting was like "what the heck is he up to"❓ and maybe it sewed seeds of doubt. It's a historic win and can't wait to see how the final goes against Anders, but Brian has achieved so much already. Should be a good one.❗😊👍

Experts, please help: am I right that at relatively low club level for men, the oldfashioned high serve is usually better? I see men do the pro type short serve. However, that requires having the base speed and technique to cover all four corners, and simple returns of the opponent often create trouble.
@wenderis
@wenderis 5 ай бұрын
Yes for single not really for double..
@robertsanders7060
@robertsanders7060 5 ай бұрын
@@wenderis Sure, I was thinking of men's singles here. To me it looks as if the short serve leaves the opponent with too many easy, hard to return options at the medium level of play. If these players learn to lift the shuttle as high as possible to the middle of the court for their service, the amount of walking they need to do after the return will always be limited.
@wenderis
@wenderis 5 ай бұрын
@@robertsanders7060 all I could say that in Indonesian local club, there are significantly more emphasis on practicing low serve (and flick serve) in double than in single. In Indonesian context, the provincial level is considered medium level, and the majority of the singles in this level plays low-short serve, even the women's. Plus, I never really went that far.

Ginting used too much energy in the first set to please the crowed. Of course its always a good idea to win the first however someone like Ginting, his playing style consumes a lot of energy. On the third he didn't expect Brian's persistence then couldn't stop the momentum. Ginting is still a great player he should work on his fitness more and pace himself.

No one really does forehand high serves in mens singles anymore, because it can just be killed with a well placed jump smash (women can't do the same that's why they still do high serves). For Brian to attempt to do that in such a high stakes game is unbelievable. I don't think I've seen any player do that.
@jeffbrower8773
@jeffbrower8773 5 ай бұрын
If you're willing to risk that serve then you need to hit it high and very near or actually on the back line. You can see in the first instance Ginting hesitated and decided it was out, but it turned out to be on the line. When I was playing coach always said in last 5 points if you're not sure just hit it - last thing you want is to let it drop on the line. I would say Ginting was a tad surprised by the move and a little unnerved after that
