Daily drivers: Land Rover Defender 90

In this episode of daily drivers we take a look at the iconic Land rover defender 90. Unlike the majority of 4x4s on the road today this one has actually seen some dirt and has got plenty of battle scars to prove it. I had a great time filming this episode and make sure you keep your eyes peeled for part two where we are going to tear up the countryside and try not to get the truck stuck.

Greetings from South Africa. My 21-year-old brother and I (25) love the Defender! As a blind person I love the double cab pickup versions with the 300tdi and 2.4TDCI engines while my brother prefers the traditional station wagon versions. Personally I'm not all that crazy on straight through and performance exhausts but I do understand that other people like them.

Ha! So nice to see someone who drives a Land Rover like me! With a great big smile on their face!!!!!!! Excellent video. I have just sold my '09 TDCi Defender which I had Loved for 4 years and bought a Series 1. What a difference and what a blast! I bought it in Edinburgh and drove it nearly 400 miles back to Essex. I have owned it for 4 weeks and including the drive from Scotland I have not seen another on the road. It has a 200tdi engine, goes like a rocket but the breaks are crap and the gear shift is a monster to master. Having said all that, I have not stopped smiling since I got Her. Land Rovers, what can you say? You either love them or are not bothered at all. As a wise person once said "if you have to explain to people why you have a Land Rover, it means they will never understand anyway!" As i said, Excelent Vid. Keep up the good work and stay safe. G

Land Rover found that nearly all Defender owners owned at least one other vehicle, be it a Fiesta or Ferrari. Hence they could focus on being totally agricultural.

Love this video! Looking to buy my first defender at 19 as soon as possible, definitely want a 90 hard top/CSW, but how easy is it to convert pick-ups into hard tops/CSW doing that would open up the range of vehicles I could buy?

Brakes aren't that bad actually. Some idiot pulled out in front of me a few months ago and the wheels locked up and I thankfully for them missed the side of it (leaving a cloud of black smoke too I might add). Defenders (old style ones) are the best!

Ooo, got any recommendations for forums? I'm based in Scotland, got about £2k burning a hole in my pocket from trading my rather expensive hot hatch in for an older mx5, I need something for hauling & I think I may have been bitten by the Defender bug, have had L200's and Shoguns in the past. I've been trawling autotrader/eBay/Gumtree and everything sub £4k is REALLY rough, I don't mind a project but folks are trying to shift literal sheds for £2k+, it's really difficult trying to justify it when you can get a Fourtrak or clean Trooper SWB for £1k easily, they're just not the same though :D. Love the review by the way, a lot of passion & knowledge in it :)

Benjafield & Baker Never thought to try selling groups, Ill definitely keep an eye out on there, pretty set on a 90, plan on it being my daily after a bit of work (I'm a diesel generator tech by trade so not afraid of a bit of spannering). Also wanting it to tow my 2-3 ton trailers around which a defender is much more suited for.

richylad71 Haha, soon! I hope! After filming this we went out 'swimming' and completely knackered the clutch, my mate has been busy and then Ill so he didn't have a chance to sort it.
