Hi Katherine ! What a pleasure to find again my Lovely, my Friday's ray of sunshine, my eardrum's delight, my Rose of England. 🌹😊 And this all the more that today's lesson is especially beautiful, let alone the fact that it is one of circumstance. As you might know, it snowed steadily and all wednesday long and also a bit yesterday here near Lille and basically eveywhere on a large northern half of the country. We now have an appreciable layer of pretty powder snow. I say 'have' because for once the good news and surprise is that all the conditions were reunited for that snow to hold and last with late night frost. It wasn't sleet and it didn't turn to mush after the fall and this morning everything is still very white, immaculate and so beautiful 🙂 As I was drinkng my coffee this morn, I heard a few bird chirps outside and thought I had one whole and a little slate baguette left. I went out to throw it to them; then I contemplated for a moment the fine icicles and stalactites which hung from the roof and the gutter of the veranda. The result was not long in coming and 3 minutes later and hardly back inside, they were there: sparrows, thrushes, blackbirds, soon followed even by some seagulls who in this season venture far from the sea inland in the hope of finding some timely and salutary nourishment. This afternoon, and as it is quite sunny today though the cold temperature, I decided it was enough to hanker down and that it was time to go for a little stroll and contemplate the lovely frozen over countryside. I didn't really wrapped up, just thinking of respecting the salutary and saving rule of the 3 layers, put on gloves and beanie and went out. I had to be careful for the pavement and roads are pretty treacherous at the moment. The first sensation was that of cold but after a while, as I stood in the sunshine, apricity began to cover me like a woolsweater laid on my face. I could gaze at the snow-capped trees and pines all around. Mother Nature seemed peaceful, like in a profound slumber and dormant and the whole landscape was like the epitome of an ethereal beauty. I enjoyed it a lot. Now, I am back to the warmth, snug as a bug in a rug, and, for lack of porridge, enjoying a good comforting and hot chocolate instead whilst watching my mesmerising and spellbounding Katherine on the screen. Sometimes I pause to gaze at her and still more appreciate her beauty and her gorgeous and awe-inspiring words. I meanwhile glance through the bay window to still appreciate the beautiful white winter coat as if to find inspiration. I think of a little paragraph, that I could write to send her a nice little comment of support, encouragement and, above all, of thanks. I especially loved that incredible word that I didn't know: Apricity. Your guess was right. What a wonderful word indeed! I find it all the more extraordinary that I couldn't, despite my effort and researches, find an equivalent in French which is quite notable ! How on earth would I get by, I thought, without the long-winded phrase 'la douce chaleur d'un soleil hivernal' / 'the gentle warmth of the winter sun', which English here, transcribes into one single and wonderful word? The best I could come up with would probably be : Alors qu'il se tenait debout dans la lumière d'un soleil hivernal, une SENSATION HÉlLIOTHERME commença à l'abrier tel un chandail de laine. / As he stood in the light of a winter sun, apricity began to cover him up like a woollen jumper. A thousand thank yous Katherine. Merci beaucoup Katherine, c'était magnifique et inspirant ! 🙏🙏👏👏👏Learning from you remains an absolute delight and delicacy. Bisous bisous, Luv'ya, have a lovely and cosy evening! 😘🌹❤

Hi Kat, whenever I listen to your videos I feel like to embrace some opportunities for learning your fantastic and soothing Standard BrE with your captivating gesture with full immersion in it. Your appreciation of the serene beauty of nature during winter is stunning. The scenic landscape with icicle, dormant mood , deep slumber, stillness, wrapping up, snow capped mountain etc. has been mentioned with vivid description. It's true the dulcet beauty of winter lies in its ability to transform almost everything into captivating and magical setting but not more than somebody else. Cheers though I've hardly any language to praise you in a befitting manner ! I Wish you good luck and ever increasing grace from The Almighty forever.

Thanks for the (C1-level ?) word ; Apricity - it is in none of my trusted paper dictionaries, so it must be rare , but I love the word and it s useful , because last week I felt that and it made me happy while I was walking in the midday sun, out of the wind , and the snow was slowly melting away . Tourists in the snow-capped ski- Alps undoubtedly enjoy that too, and will definitely agree . Sorry I have to say / add ; Be aware of the increased dosis of the treacherous sun - UV radiation due to extra light reflection of the snow . My competent radiology teacher in the past was hammering home the medical students for snow -blindness and increased risk for skin cancer .

Amazing lesson on winter vocabulary. We didn't receive snow in this winter here at suhimalayan region of India. It may be the extreme weather situations due to the global warming.

Hi Katherine, this video can remained me when I am childhood. When I was a young girl, my mother nod her head to touch my head to call me wake up, until now I felt warm when I think this moment. The sleet like a giant tree small leaf fly down, it make me happy while I try to collect leaf when it blow from the sky.💖🌻
