Yay for the morning basket! My favorite part of the school day is family subjects. I created a weekly spread sheet for weeks we school. This includes lessons, subjects each child will work on as well as breaks for holidays etc. We school year round and have four day weeks so I never feel bad if we don’t get through lessons on a tough week. Also, if we work ahead then it gives more breathing room for those tougher weeks. Thanks for sharing! Always encouraging!

We are very loose routine type and do reverse planning too. We are changing it up a little by doing a binder with the weeks work already ready to go. Taking a bit of the minimum viable day stuff and if we get more done that’s great but it’ll also help my son seeing an end to the weeks lessons versus seeing a large book of everything not done which I think overwhelmed him even though I’d say it was only this page/ lesson. Good luck and we’ll wishes for a great school year!

I wanted a Anna Vance planner. But price wise I couldn't get one this year. Her work is well worth the price. I had 4 kids in school but two passed recently. So we just have 2. My son is between kinder and first. His biggest struggle is learning to read. The sudden deaths of his brothers took a toll on him. My yongest is 4 and is preschooling. Your handwriting is beautiful.

I ordered my first Plum Planner a couple days ago. So excited! I didn’t see a teacher homeschool option. I ordered the ME style which looks almost the same as yours I believe. I added on sections: homeschool, budget, prayer, meal planning, and checklists. I only have one child, so I listed the subjects down the sides, but replaced the subject names with verbs- Treasure (morning basket), Solve (math), Worship (Bible), Express (L.A.), Experiment (science), Explore (history/geography), and Immerse (reading). The to-do on the side was replaced with achieve, and I labeled the notes box- share. I also added some protector sheets. For planning, I’ll have a list of things I want to accomplish each day of the week (M-TH) and will record what we did after completion (reverse planning I guess). I don’t declare specific times. We just go through the list of to-dos until finished.

Last year I followed a very strict schedule. This year, I think mine will look very similar to yours: morning basket, individual, followed by family subjects after lunch. I was trying to cram everything in the morning, but with a 5th, 3rd, 1st and prek this year, I just want to relax and enjoy it. Last year I had a certain time for math, la, etc., maybe having the big kids do their independent, while I start with the little 2 would work better vs separating math and la... thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for another helpful video. For me, a very visual person who’s only on my second year of homeschool, actually *seeing* how someone does things on paper, is just so helpful!! Couple of questions, what about the rest of life as it pertains to your planner? Where do you write errands, projects, chores, birthdays, play dates, etc,.? Also, when you say family units and that you’re using my fathers world, do you mean for all your other subjects- geography, science, art, history etc,.? I’ve heard so many mamas use words like “looping” and “family subjects” but I’m not sure if it’s their family subjects (the science, history, geography ) that they’re looping??? Also I don’t know how to loop 🥴🤣🤦🏽♀️. I’ve heard many people describe it but it would be so helpful to see what that looks like all laid out in a planner. Anyways, aside from allll of my questions, I’m so thankful for your videos. You are a breath of fresh air and you help encourage me that maybe I can figure this all out and someday be a confident homeschool mama who actually feels like I know what I’m doing 🤣. Grateful you chose to document this journey. It’s a huge blessing to others. ♥️

I have a separate planner for the rest of my life! I have a Happy Planner that I utilize for KZbin, meal planning, bills, etc! As far as looping, I have tried so hard to understand it!!! I kind of want to use it for my morning basket but I'm not 100% sure how to go about it 🤣🤣

This will be our 2nd year homeschooling and it'll be the craziest year I feel like. I'll have a 7th, 5th, 3rd, first and preschooler all while trying to occupy a 1.5yr old. 😅. Our first year, I was super strict on schedule in the first half. I did time blocks for everything and then that slowly became too much, so we moved towards just making sure we were started by 9am and that seemed to be more relaxed. This year, we will probably implement the same, starting at 9am, but a little different since I'll be having to help more with the younger ones. We do 4 days a week to keep our sanity and so that I'm able to set aside one full day for housework and such. Btw, I love that planner. I wish I was a planner girl, but I start and never finish them. I made my kids all homemade daily planners that they will open in their daily binders so they know what to do, if they decide to start earlier than usual.

We had a 34w preemie last year. We just didn’t get to anything for a couple months. They read books, and we were okay with that. We are now having one traditional school year run into another and that’s okay. We will get to what we can.
@OneBlessedMess3 жыл бұрын
First of all, so many prayers to your wife and your whole family for a smooth rest of her pregnancy & delivery! Secondly, just take the time off. You will be so glad you did! When I had a baby last November, we took 2 months off to just enjoy the baby and holidays. We made up for the lost days elsewhere in our year. Even if you have to school some in the summer, it is SO worth it to just have that time to heal, bond with the baby (or babies in your case!!) and be together as a family. That is the beauty and freedom of homeschooling!! Read aloud with one another, educational documentaries - those things go so much further than you know! School will always be there, take this time to just rest and be. I hope that helps!!

You can do it! I homeschooled three middle schoolers when I had a baby and a newborn. All three of the big girls survived and are now thriving at Cornell University! My advice is really cut down on what you teach. Keep it to reading (from a good literature book, a good science book like apologia, or a good history book like mystery of history or story of the world), , writing (I would have the big kids write one page a day to me “this is what I read about in science or history or in my other reading today” that’s it. Then they did one lesson in teaching textbooks math. That’s about three hours of school! The rest of the day let the big kids do fun stuff, try a new recipe, paint, play outside, do chores, whatever it’s all learning! You can do it! If they are little it is less than three hours and you can use KZbin for history and science and audio books. Just have them write a sentence or two or a picture if they are very little about what they learned. But only about one subject a day! Don’t overwhelm them! If you have questions you can email me at ivyleaguehomeschoolmom at gmail dot com I love to chat homeschool if you look that up I posted a video of my girls at Cornell under that name! 😃

I have friends who have done online learning homeschool and hated it. We have friends who did public school online learning and hated it too. For the ones who followed suit in choosing an actual book style homeschooling curriculum seemed to love it more than they expected including us since it was our first year for kindergarten. Days aren’t always sunshine and roses but if you set realistic expectations it’s a given that these days will sometimes happen but not always. Maybe checking out other options might be ideal before giving up completely, however it may not be for everyone. Good luck and as always find what works for your family. Also, always know you can pull your kids out of public school again at any time. Some great helps when I was lost and starting was HSLDA and Cathy Duffey reviews.
