Pro tip for all my creatives out there (writers, artists, ect.) DON'T DO YOUR MOST CREATIVE TASKS CLOSE TO BED! You'll either be so tired that you won't be able to do anything or you'll get a burst of creativity halfway through and won't be able to stop to fall asleep. I have just started block scheduling and I have to say that I love it. I just have to remind people: if you don’t get your blocks right on day one and two, IT’S OK. THIS IS A NEW SYSTEM, GIVE YOURSELF SOME GRACE SO YOU CAN LEARN. Right? Right. I myself am a chronic ‘plate bigger than my mouth’ person. “YES I CAN DO THIS IN 3 HOURS!” usually turns into ‘crap I did this in like, 7 hours. It’s ok. Time only feels like it’s running once your’e studying how it moves.

I started following your idea of block scheduling at the beginning of summer. I was taking 2 online classes, starting a part time job and having my son home from school all summer. I know I function A LOT better when I have a set schedule. You said something like, "I have 5 kids and 24 hours in a day - I didn't get more time with each child. I had to make it all fit." That hit me like a ton of bricks, I knew I could increase my productivity if I could stick to a plan. So I gave it a go. I blocked out my school time, home chores, kiddo activities, date with hubby time, work - I laid it all out. First semester I made the Dean's List because I think I was actually giving myself proper study time!!! So I'm sold. Now that the Fall semester is here things are changing and I'm drafting a new schedule but I'm LOVING the Block Schedule Life. Have a beautiful day darlin'.

But I tried this method starting my blocks 3,2,1 hour blocks excluding sleep. It really did wonders that day. This would be a wonderful app if it was created. My most important block was "self care and sleep". Trying to master it for night shift workers and it's possible you guys. I got sleep, I was able to block out time for family, cook, clean, and run an errand. Everybody has a different life and schedule you have to customize it for You. Be blessed.

I have been teaching this concept of block scheduling for several years. It is particularly helpful for those with mood disorders and struggle to get things done. Though I tend to set it up with less blocks and have a person identify key tasks to meet during at least two of the three blocks. As they begin to master that, we increase. But key is consistency. So set it up, as morning, afternoon, and evening. I even have people set timers for these. What I do like about this is how detailed and another way to share how to work this sort of schedule.
@elizabethwebster62856 жыл бұрын
This is what I started doing for myself, getting the block schedule system from Jordan. With me being in college, and working at the college, my work schedule for the entire semester is pretty much the same, which is nice! So it made more sense for me to section it off in Morning, Afternoon, and Evening blocks, but since I take an online course as well. I wanted to dedicate specific time to work on that class each day, so that's like my class time. But for the rest of the block time, I have on a separate sheet that shows what I can do in each block. Pretty much the same thing as Jordan's part. It definitely doesn't feel as overwhelming as it was before, which is nice!

I've been doing this type of method for months now. I didn't realize it was the block method. Basically, I would forget to eat, homeschooling was all over the place, chores were never completed and we were eating dinner so close to bedtime. So I started setting alarms in my phone to wake up and "morning routine " and "class time" and "lunch" and "room of the day " and then we have actual routine charts that we can refer to when the alarm sounds and we can mark tasks off with a dry erase marker. So basically the same concept as the block method.

I think the biggest issue for me is having the energy to be productive. I am a stay at home mom with four kiddos, but I also have adrenal fatigue, hashimoto hypothyroidism, and I just found out I have mono. I can barely get out of bed by 11 am and even then I am just exhausted ALL day. I love being productive and organized but I am just not sure how to do that when your body is struggling with health issues. For me it has nothing to do with making better choices or budgeting my time. It is simply that my body can’t keep up.

Life can be very overwhelming sometimes and makes some people want to hide and disassociate from life. I've been there. Choosing to put yourself out there and pursue something you know deep down inside you'd like to do would probably help you feel a lot better. Small steps are all it takes.

I homeschool with five kids, and I've watched this video three times! I made my block schedule and LOVE it! I also incorporated a Master Chore List that is "blocked in" to the day, and will be rotated day by day. Instead of creating an AB block system, I added in a column I call Special Notes where I input an extra errand or activity in the correct time space, than labeled with the day of the week it lands on. Hope that makes sense. I'm psyched about it and completely in love with all things organizing! Thank you!!!

Thank you so much! I am self-employed and I am pretty disciplined but I keep hearing that I need to schedule every second of my life which makes me feel like I don't have any freedom. I have chronic illnesses that keep me from having the same number of "productive" hours in a day than I used to have. I think this concept of blocks will work for me on a spread-out basis. For example, I know that if I have to budget my "Outing" time to once per week. For example, if I have 1 meeting in a week, or a Dr's appointment, I can't go into work that same week. (I work a 5/hr/wk paid job & volunteer several hours a week, both mostly from home). I can still work, just not drive 1/2 hr there, work 2-5 hrs & drive 1/2 hr back home - too much for me, it takes me days to recover. Thankfully, I have the flexibility to make this happen. I also find that I need to schedule in silence - time to Be Still and Know... This is vital in my ability to be in pain and yet have joy, recognize my losses and yet celebrate what I can do, acknowledge that my limitations effect my children & husband and yet BE fully Mom & Wife in those blocks where we are together. Focusing on what I CAN

My kids are grown and I am retired. Even just reading your schedule for the day exhausted me - you are a dynamo! :) For a long time, after I retired, I was not using my time very efficiently and everyday things like housework, yardwork, etc. were not getting done often enough. I know that sounds counter-intuitive but when you have got too much time on your hands sometimes it's easy to put off stuff (that you don't like doing) particularly if there is another empty day tomorrow looming ahead. There's way more to it, but in a nutshell, everyday stuff quickly became overwhelming. Then I ran across bullet journalling and became a fan. I have been making a schedule of things that need to get done and it has made my life a LOT easier and happier! I have daily tasks, weekly tasks, monthly tasks and so on... Now that I have a list of the stuff I want to get done and a time frame of when it needs to get done, I think blocking time to do it will be the next step. Such an excellent video. Thanks!

Isn't the reason we homeschool to avoid this though? Allowing children to stay with what they love for as long as they want without a bell ringing telling them to stop, it takes away the flow of life and takes the power away from us.

Then create one.
@ASmith-jn7kf Жыл бұрын
@@andreagriffin9842 uh no....maybe that's the reason you do it. What a terrible thing to teach someone that there are no limits, boundaries and deadlines something that is a part of life, life itself can end at any moment. So to teach them that you should focus on what you love or like for endless amounts of time until necessity compels you to do otherwise. I do not want to teach my children that. The people who will suffer most are the spouses and children and your child, but you, who are causing it will suffer the least. Your home is a launchpad for the child so if you don't teach them how to live and navigate life, you have done them a disservice.

Love love LOVE! I sort of already do a “block” system and I can testify that it’s AMAZING! I’m not nearly as busy as most people though but it’s works great for me because I really do get overwhelmed when there’s too much going on and lack of schedule is out of control. I have morning routines, house cleaning play dates and outing tasks while my oldest is in school (still have a little one at home) then after school routine and evening routine. Once kids are in bed, I’m am clocked out and it’s grown up time with my man. It’s an absolute must. This was very informative and helpful though, knowing that my boys will be so much busier soon when we start sports and such and even when we get a bigger home someday (we’re in a small home so it’s doesn’t take long to clean 🙌🏻) Thank you Jordan! ❤️

Anyone else’s get a panic feeling when the alarm sound goes off?🙆🏻♀️😂
@katetheaffiliatemomofficial6 жыл бұрын
Oh my! Yes, yes I do! I hate it. I have also disliked words like goals, timers, block 'schedule'. Instead I made mine super personal and instead of using goals I say objective (I feel like that give me a little more leeway for error which is humanly okay), instead of timer I use the word 'sound' and I use a relaxing sound to help me feel like I'm not being rushed, Instead of schedule I use the word 'method'. I have 7 'methods' in my day: Morning Method (get ready etc...), Moving Method (Out the door doing errands, etc...), Meditation Method (Nap, make and prepare food...etc...), Money Method (Work), Missionary Method (Doing service for others and my husband, making sure the house is cleaned up, etc...), Melt Method (Phone time and Husband time!), and Sleep (Don't add the word method on the end of this because I'm not doing anything but resting which is important to seperate that out in our minds because then we can 'shut our minds off' a lot easier."

Kate Mind Skills yes to all of this! Are you an “empath” type, or been called over sensitive too?;) these things really help though, some people just don’t understand us haha🧜🏼♀️😊
@blairbushproject6 жыл бұрын
It got so bad it became part of my anxiety disorder along with avoiding phone calls because of the ring and post office for the bad letters. Now that I can buy online it’s made going to the POB about blessings or good things, now we can change the ring tone. That helped a lot. And for alarms too. Now that I can have good alarms for things that are stress free like water the plants. Over time it helped me get that alarm scare a bit normalized. But for a long time it caused emotional pain during a period where I was sick but still had to work.
@katetheaffiliatemomofficial6 жыл бұрын
Tara Hays hahaha! Seriously! I love your comment! :) I get 1 of two responses on a typical day. One: they ask me more questions are genuinely interested or feel it could help them. Two: I get a weird look and a reply, “That sounds interesting.” I’ve heard that the using the word “interesting” is a way of not offending people even if your not genuinely interested 😂. I only let the complete empathetic Kate show up around close friends and family members who understand me as a person because I can sense even the tiniest things that are off. I go to a handful or practitioners for my back, health, etc...and they all say that I am super sensitive and that is a good thing because most of the general population isn’t and will have more health problems in the future! But it is sooooo important for us to share what we are sensing or empathizing about because in the small cases where people listen it genuinely can change the course of their life. It’s amazing. Is this how you are like or that you’ve noticed?? What’s your experience been like? ☀️🤗
@Beepbopboop196 жыл бұрын
Kate Mind Skills I’ve noticed the older I get (and now being a mom) I try and reserve my real empathetic side for family. It’s takes a lot of emotional strength to work with the public and have a hubby and toddler. So I guess I don’t share what I’m sensing much and have tried not to in recent years. I’ve gotten farther professionally taking this route, and focusing healing on myself and family. It’s all seasons though and that may change again sometime:) you sound like you know yourself that’s awesome!💜

Prioritizing down-time is important too. Down time...whether that is just staring at wall, meditation, taking a nap, etc. Down-time can be done while waiting instead of getting another item done. I've used my lunch hour as that time. I eat and rest. I turn off the lights in my office and play restful music or meditate on my blessings.

I dont have children and I'm not married but I do work full time, and have to manage a household, and tend to other family responsibilities. Single people sometimes have it harder than people think because they have no one to delegate tasks or to share chores with. This method of organization is very helpful. I find myself to be more productive managing my to do list in small blocks. It doesnt become overwhelming and it makes big and competing tasks manageable.
