Күн бұрын

Permaculture is about living with the abundance of nature. My days start between 3:30 and 4:00 a.m. Making bread with sorghum and picking herbs, fruit, medicinal plants and aromatic flowers to strengthen our immune system are some of the benefits of this lifestyle. Stefan and I often spend more than 7 hours or more in the gardens per day. We have also learned to get together to celebrate everyday life by taking quality time to relax and laugh for our well being. This video is an overview of the many activities that punctuate my busy days. As a woman, I find the pleasure of balancing my life through creative projects, intense or gentle physical activities and the joy of perpetuating the cycle of life that consists of giving and receiving in return.

Love We are in a very different region/climate but trying to do the same. The rewards are endless. You’re very inspiring. Our son was a bit difficult growing up but now… he never wants to leave and his desire to learn is building.He is planning his future on our family property and learning permaculture and animal husbandry.

@@noonespecial5517 that’s right. I’ve been teaching school boards and teachers associations about getting the kids outside to learn - all subjects. Math, language arts, history, art, drama. Do it outside. Even in winter. And use nature as the classroom and as the learning medium. All parts of the brain and body are active and alert when immersed in nature. So all learning that takes place there is literally recorded in every cell in the body.

Oh wow your garden is amazingly beautiful. I really enjoyed watching. Ever heard about a vernal pond? I ask you this because I see you walking with the mosquito hood. A vernal pond is a small seasonal pond without fish that is just big enough, basically just a bathtub size hole in the ground, to hold enough water for a couple of months. And it is the ideal habitat for a wide variety of amphibians to complete their reproduction cycle without getting eaten by fish. And all those frogs and such help a lot to reduce the mosquito's. Some amphibians are even able to detect the presence of fish in the water, and if that is the case they do not reproduce at all. So vernal ponds are a very important and often overlooked habitats for a wide variety of amphibians and some very specific insect species. Frogs also help to reduce or even prevent grasshopper infestations. Anyway, thanks for sharing. 👍

Thank you for this wonderful explanation. We actually have hundreds of frogs and toads here, because we have lots of water and several rain gardens which do avert similar thing as the vernal pond. With the water, come the mosquitoes. However, since we managed to correct the unnatural flooding that was taking place (there are videos for that in the permaculture playlist) we have reduced the mosquitoes here by probably three quarters! Some days we still need protection however. All this being said, none of our ponds are lined because we made them all natural, so they dry up in the summer if there is no rain. However, we would like to have a more constant source of water in our picnic area, so we are going to be trying something just like you suggest there. A small not very deep reservoir fed naturally, but lined so the water sticks around. And small enough, we could cover it if we wanted to. Thank you also for the wonderful feedback!

@@teagoldleaf4137 P.S. I recently learned about the vernal ponds from a man called Stefano Ianiro. He lives in Canada, and he has a passion for nature, in particular birds, and for filming. And last year he bought a new piece of property and there he is combining his two passions by transforming the property in order to improve the biodiversity on his property and to attract as many different birds species as possible. And he records the transformation from his property and the visiting birds and other animal species. He doesn't publish a lot of videos. But each one of his videos is basically a mini documentary that can match the professional wildlife video productions, combined with tons of very useful information about biodiversity and attracting wildlife. I even dare to say that his videos are therapeutic. So I want to share that with you, and I hope that you enjoy his videos as much as I do.

I just made a batch of purslane and cilantro pesto. 🎉 I like it on a potato. I'm trying to cut the gluten aka pasta out of my diet as well as giving up the vegetable oil because it's so terribly bad for us. I really enjoy your videos and thank you very much for sharing your invaluable knowledge🙏🏾 with us. 🥰

Oh, your pesto sounds delicious. I'm also gradually cutting out gluten and oil. I've been vegan for years, but I was raised with extra Virgin olive oil🫒 And life without it seems too unkind 😅 But as soon as I saw your purslane cilantro pesto, I thought of making a pizza crust made of red lentils and water (blend with water to batter consistency) Bake the crust till crisp, then spread that gorgeous pesto on and top with Pico de gallo, generous dollops of guacamole and some finely chopped mushrooms, garlic, and onions sautéed with taco seasoning and serve. 😊😋

Is the face covering for ticks? Or, do you even have ticks? Or they need stagnant water/swap to live in? Also, more details on the sorghum? It wasn't harvested in June, was it? How long do you wait for it to dry properly? And, as other said before me, thank you and wish the video was longer :)
@WillowsGreenPermaculture
@WillowsGreenPermaculture 2 ай бұрын
The sorghum is from last year. We still haven’t used it all up. We keep it hanging until we need it, then we thresh it. The mesh is for mosquitoes. We do have ticks, but if you don’t wade into tall grass, then usually it’s ok. We have more chances of getting ticks off our cats. It’s summer now though. Tick season is over until the fall. Thank you!
