Good afternoon Anders! We bought property with a home in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan We are creating raised beds with lots of different plants and herbs. We have planted raspberries, and blackberries and rhubarb. We also go on walks as we have hiking paths within 3 minutes away from our home! On our walks we always look for things that we can forage. We recently found a new trail with tons of apple trees! He have a lot of wild plants and herbs on our property but no trees that provide fruit or nuts. We also planted two types of grapes. Hopefully it will all survive the winter! We are putting in rain catchments on our back porch roof and on the small house. We are also wanting to implement an outdoor shower and compost toilet similar to what you have! And yesterday I was able to purchase a small wood stove from our neighbor for $10.

you live in a forest AND near a beach?? dude you're so lucky. you're right, off grid living is all about systems and planning ahead, and being mindful of your resources so you don't run out of water or fuel or solar... videos like these really inspire me to also start a homestead of my own. I'm so excited! ❤

The big problem with your tiny house for collecting rainwater is that is has a tiny roof, which means a small surface area for the water to drain from, compared to a standard house roof, so less water collected when it rains. My idea would be to get some pond liner and dig a large a pond hole as possible, then this large surface area will collect rainwater. It can then be a wildlife pond, but also a place for you to collect water from to water the garden. This then means you can use your rainwater collected in the barrels for other uses, shower, cleaning etc and it will last longer.

Great idea! But it is actually not “a big problem” - it’s a question of building out my storing capacity on the three roofs that I have😊👌

There is always a lot to do off the grid, I agree that people living in regular houses don't even need to think about the things we need to do but this is the price we pay for choosing this life. I love living off the grid. You're doing a great job! Well done :)

Tie 4 pallets together. Dump a little dirt in there and use that to dump your compost potty and yard waste. It takes a long time to fill up. I'm still filling mine after a few years. It will compost through the winter and be rich soil for the garden. I also just throw leaves or whatever in my potty. No bags. No smell.

We live off grid in the high desert. One way to save quite a bit of water is to be mindful of the size and capacity of the water spouts you have in use. For example. that green watering can in the video has a HUGE spout, looks as big as a garden hose and will erode the soil when you water. A can with a smaller spout will waste less water and spread it further. Also look at faucets, shower heads, and toilets around the house... some are effiecient bust most are very wasteful and provide way more throughput than is needed for offgrid life. We were able to reduce our water usage by more than 50% by changing them out. - something to consider.... :)

I love your place and your videos ...wont be long many folks are gonna wish they had a place off grid we have a farm .but I have been looking behind our home into the woods and would love to buy me one of those sheds or mini barn to start my own secrect hideaway or she shed😊..All my life I have loved sleeping outside and camping...sometimes I go pile up on some crocker sacks..under the pole barn to look up ..into the stars...wake up the next morning...😊.I use a battery leaf blower to blow debree off my roof...thanks for sharing 💞God Bless

Hi,I really like your channel. I saw your composting toilet which works and I understand the plastic bags are biodegradable,so that's good. I just use a bucket and sawdust,no plastic bag,I then tip that into a large greenwaste bin, that took around two to three years to fill up,you let it sit for another 12 months and use a second greenwaste bin or do as I have and made a composting bin out of old pelets,I recently emptied my greenwaste bin and it is already composted but I will compost it for another year in my pallet compost station. So if you want to save money you can build a cubic metre pellet compost box for free. Totally up to you, what your doing is working,it would be Interesting to see if the plastic bags are totally broken down and gone after two years 👍
