I lost my husband 2 months ago, and routines are what keeps me going. I don't do them perfectly, sometimes I feel so sad and lonely that I can't do nothing but sit on the couch and cry. Thankfully I have 2 children, 14 and 17, and they keep me going now. And my faith. I know I have a long road ahead, until the worst will be over. I will miss my husband forever, and I love him foverer, no matter what will happen in this life. But, routines are helping me, daily.
@marthaadams83264 жыл бұрын
Wow, so sorry. When I lost mine, I was a robot - no children at home - just got up, put on my work clothes and went to work and came home and started over. I still miss him horribly and cry sometimes (15 years now), but I am living life and counting what blessings I do have.

I have made my bed EVERY SINGLE DAY for years and years, at least 15 years, and it's just second nature to me now, and I feel like it has no effect on me anymore, as far as motivation. But I did let myself think about what I'd feel like if I didn't make my bed, and it made me cringe. Lol! So, I am glad I do it!

Awesome tips, I am way past being an empty nester, my baby is 38. The hubs does all the necessary cleaning as I am disabled. I do the evening meal with his help. Once a month we have a service that comes and does everything we can't do, blinds, floors, ceiling fans, baseboards, dusting, scrubbing the kitchen and any other domestic chore. So if you can treat yourself by allowing someone to come into your home and help you. You are not a failure.

And you're so right about doing 1 thing in a day. I've lost whole nights sleep worrying about the amount of stuff I've got to do and feeling overwhelmed and then I'm too tired to do anything at all. So now, I choose 1 thing off the list in my head and when that's done, I'm usually motivated to carry on and do more. I've learnt that I can't do as much in a day as I did 30 years ago and not to beat myself up about it. What doesn't get done today will still be there tomorrow. Progress over Perfection. 😊

You are not alone. Some have rejuvenated and some have gone down during this forced look at oneself. Some divorces and some rejuvenated marriages- learning to help children all day with schooling, while doing the regular things already on one's plate. Enough already - stop the world ---- well you know the saying. One step at a time is good for just about anything. Start small and work up to a complete routine - take days off if need be - and remember, you are not alone.

Although my son left home last year, I still live with my 26 year old daughter. I recently left my hospital job to care for her full time as she is crippled by anxiety and depression and I'm struggling to motivate her to look after her own room, let alone lend a hand in the rest of the house. I have used the FlySystem since she came out in a magazine article, but like you I made it my own system, now since we are empty nesters. I do fine if I'm busy and not idol, so cleaning is my busy plus other things (gardening and sewing) too. I do not take meds due to I'm allergic to some of the items in it. This is for all who have cleaning anxiety. I went through Hell for 10 years - finally, I was free and could not hardly walk through my home. I am now almost 80 and completely disabled with this situation. The only thing, in the beginning that I could get done was my MBR because the allergy doctor told me if it is all you can do, do the MBR because that is the place where you spend the most of your time. I have health problems that mean I am unable to do much at all and when I had better days, I would tackle just one closet, one chest of drawers, vacuuming every day in the MBR and if lucky another room. Lesson: From a perfectionist (yes, I was). Five years later, still have a list - lots of trips to a store that takes almost anything to resell to assist with the domestic violence home. I have to alter my perfectionistic ways because it just can't get done. Still, who wants to get into a messy bed - UGH! But, with one room at a time, I have been able to overlook my imperfect home and even invite people in before the FLU thing. Now we do front porch visits. It is gardening and canning season where I live right now and everyone's kitchen looks like a tornado went through on most days - and this goes on from first harvest to the last. One thing I did was to get rid of the "guest" room because that is not a regular occurrence since I have lost most of my family and a daybed and recliners will do in a pinch - wouldn't have caught me dead doing that when I was a perfectionist. God has a way of teaching us what we need to know. And, also, if my body is giving out at 2pm, I will now stop and nap and then work a little after supper - but I do not have a family at home now to care for or a job - retired
