I'm such a fan of yours, Jeff!! I'm an actor and singer-songwriter in New York City. Your videos have helped me immensely-not only with specific vocal training but more generally with keeping performance and art practically incorporated into my daily life. Balancing a day job with ones creative pursuits can be difficult and discouraging, but your content allows me the freedom to take whatever extra time I have and use it to expand my toolbox and make myself a more valuable performer. I'm so happy to be able to support the channel via Patreon! Keep up the great work.

Why is it that some days this warm up is easy for me and some days it’s difficult? Is it normal to have days where things are harder? I’m trying to focus on technique the same amount everyday but sometimes my body doesn’t want to work with me 🙁
@JeffRolka3 жыл бұрын
Consistency comes with continued disciplined practice. The more the exercises become habitual, the more consistent they, and your vocal production in general, will become! That being said, we all have bad days, it's just that most casual listeners won't know it! Thank you for watching and thank you for being here! Jeff

Hi Jeff! First, thank you for all of these wonderful singing lesson videos! :) Second - are all of the notes sung in this video supposed to be chest voice only?
@JeffRolka5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I appreciate it! Not necessarily. I advocate working on our technique so that we make a smooth transition over the secondo passaggio. Best! Jeff

Jeff, thank you so much for your mezzo videos!!! Question: I am having a very hard time smoothing out and especially strengthening my middle voice, specifically from middle c to g. While I am a lyric mezzo soprano, I sing classic rock ‘n’ roll and folk rock. As a result, in performance I tend to belt through that range, but I don’t want to ruin or lose my middle voice altogether. Will these specific exercises help me, or can you recommend other exercises of yours to address my problem? Thanks!
@JeffRolka5 жыл бұрын
Oh dear, well, you're sort of stuck in the middle there. This happens frequently with performing artists. You are perhaps working your middle range effectively in the exercises, but not reinforcing that practice when you belt along with the group. The long term success strategy would be to try to find a happy medium where balance was maintained and a more aggressive belt was only used on occasion. On the plus side, in my experience, balance wins in the end. Keep practicing the vocalizations, try to be aware of the imbalance of the belted voice in performance, not with a mind to change it, but to notice it. It's likely they'll reconcile in time. Best! Jeff

Hey Jeff! I love the videos! I’m unsure whether I’m a mezzo soprano or an alto. How do I find out which is the best fit for my voice?
@JeffRolka5 жыл бұрын
Just try to notice where things are difficult and where you feel most comfortable. Defining fach takes time and consistency of vowels in order to make a firm determination. Best, Jeff
