the bokeh it's ok to use every now and then but if you use it all the time it takes away. to show your environment in focus gives a better sense of space and the viewer enjoys the surrounding as well. f1.4 has specific uses don't over do it.

You have been talking about shooting the vlog on the Red, The learning curve and support required by the Red is crazy. Keep in mind that you will need to upgrade your computer, you will also need a lot of hard drive space and time to color grade the footage. A red or Alexa mini would be a great addition to your kit but I doubt that it will get as much use as you would like. Vlogging takes a lot of time as you know and the added workload of Red footage could actually hurt the amount of content that you create. I just wanted to bring up some of the issues with shooting on a raw camera. My advice is that you get your audio kit sorted out before you move into a better camera. Also you are just scratching the surface of what the gear you already have can do. taking the time to really learn the camera and its capabilities will always trump better gear. I love the vlogs. You're all so much fun to watch. I also love your attitude, keep creating.

1.4/1.8 lens are amazing for photography, but for a vlog I prefer autofocus lenses, with the background in focus. image quality is important to a point, but content is much more important. I woudn't worry about it too much about a 'pro' look. also, you definitely need a desktop at least in Marbella. keep up the good work it's worth it.

The Lens look really cool on some scenes, but sometimes while watching the vlogs I like to look at the cool stuff and scenery going on in the background and the blur doesn't allow me to do that. Great vlog regardless though, and your editing is getting better and better!

Viewer opinion for daily vlogging is auto focus lens as we can also enjoy the scenery, however with Leica prime lens it pretty much blurred out, and no much scenery to enjoy. I think those prime Leica lens is suitable for video with background music with slow motion at 7.25 minutes but I did enjoyed ...hell yeahh!!! Cant mention that Janni looks beautiful today :D

The look with the manual prime Leica glass is stunning, but I think you should stay with the autofocus lenses. The look is kinda the best look on youtube for a video blog anyways so its fine and you can use it easier and the focus is more on point! But thanks for the awesome content so far! Jon, not sure if your Leica has an LCD screen to see what is being recorded...but many of the Canon cameras have an articulating LCD screen with a sound level meter so that you'll always know if the audio is being recorded.

I would stick with the old lense for most of vlog and then use to 1.4 lense for certain shots. Both are great it's just that with the 1.4 we lose the background which makes it seem not real if you get what I'm saying. But still a great vlog either way :)

Neistat's vlogs have no aesthetic at all. Yes, they are great stories. But they look very bad especially considering the budget he has. He won't even put on a basic grade? Like really? Shoot with the camera you have is a philosophy that is just as right as shooting with whatever gives you the best picture quality on the budget.

Yes, you're right. It is subjective. But consider this. Neistat's cameras are disposable items. He breaks one every few weeks or months. Now imagine Jon breaking his Leica camera every few months. That would be costly. This shows that Jon made a very different choice in the way he shoots from Neistat. Thus I don't think that the philosophy behind the way Neistat chooses his gear should be applied to the way Jon chooses his gear. So I don't think "haven't you learned from Casey? ;)" is appropriate even though I fully understand where you are coming from and respect your opinion! Ps: the fact that many new vloggers choose to imitate the style shows that they lack technical knowledge of gear and are uncreative. Many roads lead to Rome, and, don't get me wrong, Casey's style is not a bad place to start out but that road has a traffic jam on it. Be creative and find your own road!

Jon you probably wont see this but try taking a deep breath and exhaling (normal speed) untill you feel a tingling sensation or feel light headed before you hold your breath, and just before you go under water dont keep that 1 last gulf of air in your lungs, trust me you will be surprised, there are vids on yt about this, the world record holder for longest time under water does this

The f/1.4 lens would be better for cinematics but not for walking around and talking to the camera, exception would be Q&As. The depth of field seems way too much to be able to have consistent focus on a subject. I really wish you start shooting in 4K, the compression on the 1080p resolution by KZbin kills the beautiful frames coming out of the Vlogs. Maybe mix in the Sony A7s for shots that you want a lot of Bokeh/DoF, Sony offers some really good low f/stop auto focus lenses.

f:1.4 is going to be extremely difficult to focus on a vlog bc of the shallow depth of field. If you practice the zone focusing, at higher "f" values it will get much easier and you'll have more things in focus.
