The NZ Barret try at the end was from a knocked on ball. The ball bounced forward before the player who passed, while tackled.

6:52 Rugby players are forced to use form tackles. So they must bend at the hips and knees, but as long as the hit is chest and below. There are mitigation which they look at like other player involved, the player dipping, etc

Note: Please read: Why when someone falls everyone goes over and on top of him is because if the opposing team gets their hands on the ball they can steal the ball which is a penalty to them, Also there is ussualy no head contact in a game so any thing to do with the head can be yellow or red card, also if it's accidental head contact they call it " rugby " because all the rules in rugby won't always be perfect otherwise you can't play so yeah

If you tackle someone you cannot have any contact with their head or neck. All tackles must be below the neck. This is to try to prevent concussion or spinal injuries. Also, if you lift someone in a tackle it your responsibility to make sure they do not tip beyond the horizontal. This stops them from going head first into the ground. The reason that half of the players stopped playing and half didn't stop was because not all the players heard the whistle. If you try to intercept the ball there must be a chance that you can actually catch the ball i.e. you can't just stick your hand out to stop a pass. If you do, this is called interference.

If you’re interested in tackle techniques and the difference between the yellow and red cards here’s what I can say from what I know: Any tackle below the neck is legal and the tackler must make attempts to wrap up the carrier as a result. There are different kinds of tackles the most common is just a wrap up from chest to waist height. There’s chop tackles which aim at the legs and ankle taps which aim at a running players heels to throw the runners of balance and bring them to ground often a last resort tackle. The difference between red and yellow card offences is based on mitigation or mitigating factors for instance if another player pushed their teammate into one direction that contributed to the collision or if the ball carrier changed position and height to quickly for the tackler to adjust. These can turn a red card to yellow red cards occur in the absence of these instances ie. shoulder charge tackles which have been phased out of coaching in international level because of how likely they are to cause head collisions. Most offences and incidents are penalised against the tackler as opposed to ball carriers so you will see instances or carriers bumping off players in ways that look as dangerous or illegal as yellow and red card offences. With that sense the reason cane (black no. 7)got red carded under TMO was the lack of mitigation he lead the tackle with his shoulder and wrapped up too late and was making the tackle upright instead of bending his knee and hips. Siya (Green no.6) made an attempt to wrap was bending to make the hit however due timing the hit to early the back of his head made contact he aimed for the chest but was slightly too high and early. Bonus: The push and shove thing you see after a player is tackled is called a ruck basically after a player is tackled the player holding the ball must release the ball which is then contestable by both teams so for the team with the ball additional players need to secure the ball using a formation in this formation the players in their feet aren’t allowed to grab the ball with their hands and must use their feet once it’s past the player’s feet the halfback no.9 can take the ball. Ruck offences and penalties come from when the opposition try contesting when they are offside or from the side of the ruck or when the team doesn’t release the ball etc. This is where most turnovers occur which are rewarded when players standing up after either 1, releasing and reengaging the ball carrier to compete or another player who didn’t tackle gets over the ball and steals it as it is released. There’s a video expl the basics of rugby from an american perspective and if you want an in-depth understanding on positions and laws there are others to reference from on youtube but here’s some basics. there’s 15 players 8 are forwards the big boys carrying the ball and 7 backs these are the fast smaller guys. on most teams there are 2 main players makers 9 & 10 who organise the attack with the 10 being the goal kicker in others the goal kicker is 15 or 12 but in most teams 15 is a bonus playmaker who covers kicks from the backs and spots space.

When someone gets tackled and a third player arrives a "ruck" is formed, it's quite technical, but in summary you have a moment after being tackled to either place the ball for your team to defend at the ruck, or you can try and pass the ball in the act of going down, i.e you have one movement to make. Heavily summarised, missing lots of details, but this should give you an idea. If you stop a try scoring play with foul play, a penalty try is awarded. Basic rule with passes and kicks is that at the moment of passing/kicking the person receiving should be in-line or behind you. The head hit rules are chaos at the moment, The rulebook is interpreted by the ref on the day, while the rulebook is a different story. Atm all head contact is supposed to be carded, but some refs apply judgement as to not punish an innocent play. Inconsitency is the issue.
@rittherugger160

Rugby isn't a 'no head to head contact' game like the NFL. Any direct contact above the 'armpits' is what's forbidden. Once a ruck forms a new offside line is established. Defenders beyond the ball may not interfere until they get back on the right side of that line. They can be there but they must make an effort not to interfere and to get back onside.

So that tackle you were confused on is called a Reckless tackle. I quote below what the world rugby rules are for a reckless tackle. “Reckless tackle: A player is deemed to have made reckless contact during a tackle or attempted tackle or during other phases of the game if in making contact, the player knew or should have known that there was a risk of making contact with the head of an opponent, but did so anyway. This sanction applies even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders. This type of contact also applies to grabbing and rolling or twisting around the head/neck area even if the contact starts below the line of the shoulders. Minimum sanction: Yellow card Maximum sanction: Red card” The rules about making contact with the head in rugby are very strict. For obvious reasons.

When players go over thier own teammate when he's on the ground, the purpose is more to protect the ball and possesion and not as much the player. Once he's on the ground he's not allowed to play it and should let go of the ball. The opposing team has a chance to grab the ball from a player on the ground. When the two teams fight over a ball on the ground in such a situation its called a Ruck not a Scrum. The opposing team has to ruck their way to the ball. Only way to get posession is to push over (Ruck) the team defending the ball on ground. In some situations the defending team is able to form thier ruck earlier or reach the ball before the attacking team is able to fully protect it. In such a situation they can turnover possesion. Failure to let go of the ball by the player on the ground results in a penalty against them.

The first Rugby World Cup was held in 1987. South Africa was not allowed to participate due to sanctions because of apartheid until 1995 and missed 2!!!!! World cups. We missed 2 world cups. In 1987 rugby pundits said that NZ can't be seen as World Rugby Champions as they have not yet played South Africa. Today people still refer to the All Blacks as the greatest Rugby team in the world? How is this possible?

so once a player is on the ground they cover the player with what is called a rack so they can protect the ball so the opposing team don`t get the ball... if you try(touch down) its 5 points and a conversion is 2 and penalty is 3. and the human centipede is a scrum but can easily be a maul also the thing with the ball is its oval so thee is no way in predicting where its going to bounce

So when you tackle you have to wrap your arms around the player and you cant tackle above the shoulders even head on head etc also anything caught forward from your own player is illegal it has to be thrown or caught backwards if it's kicked forward and caught that's okay since it isn't passed forward so because the all black player dropped the ball went forward and was caught forward they didn't get the try the first time

Being penalized for "dangerous contact" is far too easy these days and and things like yellow cards and red cards are having far too much impact on important games. Its a sad state. These are the records South Africa have now broken : 1. They are the first team in history to win the Rugby World Cup four times. 2. They are also the first team to win the World Cup twice in a row along with New Zealand who did so in 2011 and 2015. 3. They are the only nation that has never lost a Rugby World Cup final , as well as the only team to win the World Cup in three different continents. 4. They are the only team that has won the World Cup three times outside of their home country. We have broken all of these records while only playing in eight World Cups compared to the other nations who have played in ten World Cups. It is clear that the Springboks are the greatest team in Rugby World Cup history. South Africa have had the hardest Rugby World Cup run in history. In the 2023 Rugby World Cup they played every single one of the top 6 Rugby teams in the World.

siya had good tackle form. it's still a foul because it was above the nipple line but it wasn't malicious. sam's form was tackle form was bad especially for a professional rugby player. with his tackle form (straight back) he was almost certainly gonna hit someone around their neck area. it's the same thing in professional football, players cannot tackle with their studs up, it's an automatic red if you get in contact with a player no matter how much the contact was because it's bad form we want to encourage safe play & protection of players such that they can have longer careers & so that aspiring players know how to play safely as seen from their professional counterparts

The refing this game was fucking terrible man, not even the refs fault usually the guys watching the plays back only get called in if the ref is unsure and needs a call verified but in this game they straight up called him like 6 plays later to say "yeah back here there was _ so undo everything done since then" and it just absolutely ruined the momentum of the game for both teams.
