It really depends… American football players are larger on average and have less stamina because they play in a much smaller Arena. Which means more physical contact, hence all the padding. While rugby requires much more stamina, hence the focus shifts from simple strength to more agility and stamina. You also have less physical contact (relatively speaking). Rugby players wouldn’t last long in an NFL arena. While NFL players wouldn’t last long in a rugby Arena. Two are very very similar sports… but both have trade offs which makes them unique. Tho, rugby is 3 times more dangerous if I recall correctly…

Unlike American football, the game isn't paused every time someone gets tackled. The "human centipede" is called a 'scrum'. the goal is to press the ball against the ground on the other side of the line, which is called a Tri. it used to be 3 points per tri, then was changed to 5 points

As a South African born in the early 90's I grew up playing school rugby. It's a great game as it keeps you fit and healthy and also teaches discipline. I was well over 6 foot and weighed more than 250 and there were guys that made me look small. But it's not always the size it's the talent the hard work combined with heart. You get even more respect for these players in real life as they are not and do not act like celebs, they are down to earth true athletes. Well, most of them. Injuries is part of the sport. Broken bones were common. However, if played right with honor injuries is minimized whilst contact is spectacular. Best team in the world is a debate but the Springboks and All Black is definitely one of them. We will see who takes home the world cup this year.... May the best team win🙏

Hi, I am a rugby supporter and saw your video and I love it. There are a few things I can explain, like rules you didn't understand to much. First of all the Springboks is the national rugby team for South Africa. So inside South Africa we have like Cape Town, Pretoria, Kwazulu-Natal, which is places inside South Africa for example, America has Texas and San Fransisco. Now our teams inside South Africa like Cape Town have their own rugby team, for example Cape Town has the Stormers, so bassicaly the Springboks consist of the best players of the teams inside South Africa. Second of all you can't tackle Shoulder to head or something higher up on the body like neck is where is starts, if you tackle someone and it's head to head or shoulder to head or anything to do with the head and colliding, it's a red or yellow card to the tackler, depending on how dangerous it is. You can't tackle someone without the ball and you can't throw the ball fowards to a player, so all the players have to be behind the ball carrier. And where your said it look like they wrestling you call it a ruck, so when someone gets tackled the other team that tackled him can steal the ball, but the team that was tackled have to defend that so they kind of pile up on the guy so the other team can't steal the ball. Also the greatest rugby team at the moment is the Springboks they won the rugby world cup, so bassicaly every 16 internationel teams play against each other and see who comes out on top, I ain't gonna talk to much about this because it is complicated but yeah. Please check out more rugby content and learn a lil more rules which you can find on youtube, so you can enjoy watching rugby without being confused. Also if you score a try it is where you go over the line in american foortball a touch down, but in rugby it's a try, so a try is 5 points and then you have a kicker on your team which has to kick in between the posts ( poles ) and then you +2 points, so you have 7 if the kicker misses it's 5 points. And there are 15 players on a team plus a bomb squad, meaning of bomb squad is like there are 7 other players on the bench that is willing to come up on any time, but then a player has to leave the field, so how it works is let's say 15 goes off then number 23 on the bench comes on, but when someone comes off for example 15 is called a full back then another full back has to come on, so it can't be a lock ( Number 4 or 5 ) that comes on. There where you said it looks like a human centipede, you call it a scrum there are 7 people in a scrum, number 1 and 3 are front rows, number 2 is a hooker ( yes I know it sounds weird, but it isn't meant in that way ) Number 4 and 5 are locks they put their heads in between the hips of 1, 2 and 3. Playing next to the locks are flanks, they are number 6 and 7, and the one behind in the scrum is number 8, and the name of the number 8 posistion is 8th man. Number 9 ( Scrum-half ) is the one that feeds the ball out to the other players, there where they are " Wrestling " which is called a ruck. Then number 10 is usually the kicker number 10 position is called fly-half, number 11 and 14 are called wingers, so they are usually the fastest players on the team. Number 14 plays on the right side and number 11 on the left side. Number 12 and 13 are centers they are usually the fast and big guys. And number 15 is a full back which can also be the kicker but usually their not. Number 1 and 3 ( front rows ) are usually the biggest guys in width and like they also usually the strongest, because they of course during the scrum push as hard as they can with their legs, Number 2 is also pushing in the scrum but he is in the middle and also usually the bigger guys in width. But number 2 is the one that throws the ball in at the line out where they jump and catch it and then have a loose ruck ( So bassically a scrum ). Number 4 and 5 are usually the longest guys and strongest guys on the team like more built with muscle. Number 6 and 7 are also strong, but a little smaller then the front rows and 8th man and most of the people in the scrum, number 8 is usually the fast and big guy, almost like the center, but a little bigger and slower. Number 9 is usaully the smallest guy on the field, Number 10 is also smaller but has to be fast also the number 9 has to be relatively fast, number 11 and 14 are most of the time the smaller and fastest guys, number 12 and 13 like I said fast and also big and strong. Number 15 is the longer guys and the faster guys on the field. Sorry for the long comment, I am just kind of explaining the basic rugby rules here, if you want to learn more I suggest you watch a rugby game, which you can find on KZbin. I would recomend like South Africa vs All Blacks ( New Zealand ) or like France vs Australia or like Italy vs Japan or Ireland, England ext. I wouldn't recommend the USA or South America, because they are not to big on rugby, the only team in South America and the American region that is good at ruby is Argentina. Please watch more videos about rugby on the Die Hard Rugby channel on youtube the one you reacted to in this video. If you want to learn a little bit more rugby basics you can find it on KZbin just type in Basic rugby rules explained, if you want a little more advanced rules go to TAS Analytics, so that channel talks about rugby games recently and shows what's wrong and right and stuff like that and the mistakes the ref made. I would recommend the basics first tho. Great video!

On the hurt front. Rugby tackling is actually a lot safer than NFL (due to not wearing pads, so very strong rules about head contact, minimum yellow card, possible red card or booking for rest of season) and form tackles on every tackle as the person laying out the hit has to protect themselves. They are not wearing padding so when you hit someone ... you feel it. Less bell ringing head tackling, more "big bash" to the ribs, knock the wind out of you, make you wonder why your spirit is looking down at you...

The ball has to touch the ground and be in your control in order for a try(goal) to be awarded. Even if you cross the try line with the ball, the opposing team can stop you scoring if they, for example, tackle you out of bounds. So the sliding is a fast way to throw yourself onto the ground to score if the opposing team is applying pressure. You will often see, if there is no pressure, the ball carrier will take the ball from wherever he crosses the line and walk it to the middle of the posts before touching the ball to the ground so that the converting kick ("bonus" points that add two points to your try) is a walk in the park. That being said, it has become a celebratory move and a bit of flair when you score so a number of guys do it just as a celebration or for fun.

6:42 It's called a scrum. When one team loses the ball forward or throws a forward pass, they form a 'scrum' This is when the opposing team puts the ball into the scrum and they "wrestle" or push against each other to try and win the ball. The scrum-half (number 9), then puts the ball in and hopes their forwards win the ball so they are in possesion.

If you want some rule videos, I can recommend these: 1. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4vTZX6sfs11gM0 (this is my the USMLR league and aimed at Americans) 2. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ7RpoWeg9mHaKc (entertaining and good enough summary of the most important rules) 3. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fICtlp2kha5jppI (slightly more in depth rules and would give a good summary as well) There is a lot of rugby played in America as well. The USMLR season is over for this year; But you can still watch the highlights on youtube on their channel. Find your local team and give them some support by going to the matches. USA Is hosting the 2031 (Men) and 2033 (Woman) world cups, so you need to build support!

A few things that would help make sense of the game: 1. The ball is almost always live, and the ball is almost always contestable. 2. You can only tackle the player who has the ball 3. You cannot tackle a player who is airborne. This is why they dive for the try (goal) line - so they can't be tackled. Also, looks good for the cameras. 4. Players who don't have the ball must stay behind the ball ("on side"). Some allowance is made for players to be in front of the ball ("off side"), provided they move backwards as soon as possible. This accounts for the ball being passed backwards. Players won't typically be penalised for being off side, unless they enter play from the off side position. Play always has to start behind the ball. 5. When a player is tackled, play doesn't stop, and the ball can be contested. 6. You cannot pass the ball foward. If you pass the ball to another player, it has to travel backwards. 7. If you pass forward, a scrum is awarded to the opposing team (what you see at 6:40). The two sides push against each other in an effort to gain ground. Player #9 feeds the ball into the scrum. While the scrum is in ongoing, the players may not touch the ball with their hands - that's why you see them rolling the ball along with their feet, while they move forward. Once they've passed the try line (goal line), the player can remove the ball from the scrum and score - this was a beautiful example of it. If the scrum happens further back, the player removing the ball will pass it down the line. 8. The number on the jerseys relates to the position on the field, not the player itself. Each position has a unique function, and is suited to a particular skill set. Some players are skilled at a few different positions, but most specialise in one position. Once you understand the role of each player, you become aware of much more complexity in the game. It's like chess. With dire physical consequences. 9. Once a player has scored a try (set the ball down behind the goal line), 5 points are awarded. The team then has the opportunity to "convert" the try by kicking the ball over the H-shaped posts. This adds 2 more points, if succesful. The ball is kicked from a distance, in line with where the try was scored. If the try was under the posts, it's an easy kick. If the try was in the corner, the player has to kick at a steep angle and it's much harder. This explains why you see players crossing the try line with little opposition near them, turn and run towards the center behind the H-posts before scoring. Makes it easier for the conversion. In Rugby : 1. Passing hand to hand is always passed backwards and down the line either left or right and even changing, but always backwards. Passing forward is permitted but only from the foot (Kick forward) 2. Scrum - Minor penalty: That is the 2 x 8 man "huddle" - also known as a scrummage. The team who gets the "put-în" is the team that did not commit the error. 3. Scoring : Try = 5 points (Like a Touch down). Scoring team gets an opportunity to convert for an extra 2 points. Conversion is taken opposite the tscoring point and the ball hasto pass between the uprights and over the crossbar. Penalty - A kick between the uprights and over the crossbar for 3 points. A A drop kick (field goal) is a kick between the uprights and over the cross bar in normal run of play = 3 points. Lastly a Penalty Try = 7 points. 4. Tackle : Tackles are "hold on" in nature and executed under the shoulders. Any tackle shoulders or above is a penalty against. 5. Ruck : This is the "dogpile" on the field where the ball is played to an awaiting team player. (over simplified - there are many rules that apply) 6. Maul. This is a running huddle that stays on its feet, If it collapses it becomes a ruck. (over simplified - there are many rules that apply) 7. Line out : Ball leaves the field of play on the side lines. Ball is thrown back in in a set manner. 8. Free kick - this is like a penalty and the team gets a free kick down field to push back the opponent side. Often kicked toward the sideline for a free throw in closer tothe opponents try line (score line) 9. American Football originated from RUGBY. Only, with Gaelic Football and Irish Football and the mix up of rules gave birth to American Football. Pads, helmets and guards ..... pure american invention to prevent injury. 10. Data would suggest that rugby is indeed a more dangerous sport in the sense that a player is more likely to get hurt while playing. However, the severity of injury is likely higher in football, considering the nature of the collisions to be at a greater speed and with less control. Both sports lend players to a greater risk of long-term health issues than other sports, but are also continually making improvements year in and year out to make their respective games safer.

Points system: A try (5 points), when you put the ball down on the grass behind the opposing team's goal line. Your hand must be in contact with the ball as it touches the ground. There is then an opportunity to convert the try (2 extra points), where one of your kickers take a shot at goal - kicking the ball between the H-shaped posts. A penalty kick (3 points) - also a kick to put the ball between the posts.

Historically the best team ever is the All Blacks (New Zealand), with the Springboks (South Africa) 2nd. SA are the reigning world champions (2019 World Cup), and are also one of the favourites (alongside France, Ireland, NZ) to win it this year (the 2023 WC starts in a few weeks). SA and NZ have both won the most World Cups (3 each). ps. SA destroyed NZ (the worst loss in All Blacks history) in a WC warm-up match a few days ago lol

The ‘skinny’ guy is Cheslin Kolbe, an absolute animal, fast as hell and buff. One of the best wingers to ever live. The ‘smelling ass’ formation is called a scrum. It comes from calling a stopage when the ball is fumbled forward. Backward fumbles are allowed. It’s the ultimate test of physical strength and scrum technique between the two teams. It’s like an engine room in there and tough as hell. Pointers: Can’t pass forward Can kick forward One “try” (touchdown) is 5 points, conversion (goal kick) 2 points Penalty conversion is 3 points 15 players on the field, 8 replacements. One squad of 23, no defensive squad, no offensive squad, you need to be able to defend and attack at all times. Lot of other stuff to talk about, but watch some more man. Shit is addictive

Point system is quite something to be understood. A try (touch down on the goal post line ) is 5 points, 2 points for conversion (kicked through the posts after a try is scored) and penalty kick through the posts is 3 points.

The points: a try (touch down) is 5 points, you can then kick for the goal posts which gives an extra 2 and thats called a converted try. Then if you get a penalty and kick you get 3 points and if your running in the game and do what is called a drop kick where you then just drop the ball in place and try kick it between the posts you get 4 points, that was how the legendary 1995 world cup was won. Greatest sporting moment ever. A bruised country freshly clinbing out of a turbulent history, we were all one. That victory cannot be overstated! Seriously watch Invictus.
