A midsize luxury crossover with a turbo inline-6 that can do 40 miles on electricity alone? That's part of what makes the 2024 BMW X5 xDrive50 so desirable.

I have done 122 km/ 75 miles on full battery charge on my X5 50e on long journeys. Some of it, I suspect, is due to regen. Currently my average consumption is 74.5 mpg(UK), with 67% electric mileage. The X5 PHEV is a no brainer for me, wirh huge saving on fuel.

For long highway drives the standard X5 40i xdrive will likely be more economical. My dad said theirs does 32-33+ mpg on the highway at 70 mph. Still plenty fast too, 0-60 5.0 seconds…

He tested the xDrive40i and he also got 27mpg )) but outside temp was lower at 47.

Probably true given the weight difference, but almost everybody has mixed driving patterns, so the PHEV should still make better financial sense.

I had a x5 xdrive40i and best I ever did was like 27 mpg. But that’s at Texas highway speeds

I have the X5 45E which is similar but the 50E definitely is an upgrade from the 45E with additional power and range. It's great as long as you have access to a plug in overnight and a willingness to plug it in often. If not, just stick with the 40I

Charlie, At this point, I would be alarmed if a German car did not beat EPA highway numbers. 😐

Just bought the x5 50e after having a 2020 x5 40in (which I loved so much) and I'm beyonnnnnnd impressed with the updates on this car but also with the air suspension system... the drive is night and day, it's crazy.

X5 has been a turbo inline 6 for the plug-in since 2020 with the xDrive45e model. xDrive50e just ups the power from previous years.

Thanks, I don't know why I got so caught up in thinking this was the first year for B58. I blame TopherDrives.

Sounds reliable. Good thing most people will lease it.

Why is it a good thing? Over here it makes more sense to buy one outright (lease companies screw you over when you return the vehicle, damage etc)

European version of 50e is making 100-100km (60-65ml) in full electric .

I like these videos; good scientific process to confirm EPA numbers. Reproducibility is key. Would like to see this on the 2025 MDX (not type S)

Thanks! Not many people seem to recognize that reproducibility is the most difficult aspect. Will very likely get the A-spec MDX

@@DailyMotor yes it’ll be interesting to see if there is any difference 3 years later, if any at all give the same V6 engine, from your 2022 model mpg test video.

Electrical dumpster fire. Sent mine back after 3000 miles after it spent 6 out of 12 weeks in the shop having multiple electrical system and software updates / replacements. Steer clear until they fix the electrics because the car itself ( whilst not in the repair shop ) is a dream to drive

Does it keep different odometers for ICE/assisted miles vs EV only mode? I'm curious because I might be a 2nd owner at some point

What kind of mileage would you get in hybrid mode with a full battery?
@DailyMotor
@DailyMotor 3 күн бұрын
That is very dependent on driving style and duration.

What are those flashing lights in the dash?

Those are infrared lights picked up by the camera, you don't actually see them.

Thanks! It's DigiHUD Speedometer on the Play Store, but most generic speedometer apps will function similarly.

You ran the battery out of charge then used hybrid mode with a dead battery. Need to try agan.

Not so, I had it on nav as well, so the car's hybrid system kept switching between electric and ICE. I reached my destination with 1% of battery charge left.

Thanks for the test ... BUT ... I would love to hear the actual engine/powertrain at some point, so when you are revving it, please don't talk :-) It's a big thing when buying an EV or PHEV, how it sounds. Thanks

70km of range in Europe is more than enough to last for 2 days easily furthermore driving at lower speeds it would be +100km more like.
