Ss13 is the only game where ignoring an antagonist actually locks them into a state where they cannot kill you unless you are their target or impeding their mission. Saying "I didn't see shit" has worked for me, no joke, 100% of the time that I wasn't their target. This includes one time a role with no kill restrictions I kindly asked them to let me finish learning what I was doing first and they did. Even vampires will suck less blood if you cooperate and drag you to Medical. The doctors KNOW they are a vampire but they can't get themselves killed over it.

Hahaha, I gotta say you got really Lucky as I was actually the space suit guy! I was inside botany triying to get some rainbow cannabis leafs for my project when I heard the explosion and I saw that same dude pop-out, I ran in there randomly as I thought he was doing something antag as I was waiting for the leaves which was boring.. and saw you in there! I remember this round well as I had a telescience empire + drug empire, the paramedic that stopped me actually asked me to hold the body instead of dragging you and I simply said " Could you help him for me?" as I was in a rush to do my project, who could have though such a thing would have caused a butterfly effect and make you into a hulk lol hope you enjoyed that round!

(Been playing SS13 for 4 years) Quickest way to get into player interaction in this game is to hurt yourself severely and end up in the medbay. I learned the complete medical system by just smashing my head with metal rods, blaming it on some made up entity, then seeing how they put me back together. Use the assistant job on servers to learn your way around the game. Most people are happy to teach since it breaks up the monotony. (Try to wear nothing but what you start with since people are more wary of assistants that look geared up). If you get let into a department to learn don't touch anything without asking since you can fuck shit up sometimes. Don't underestimate the unpredictability of spessmen, a friendly happy guy may bash your head in with a toolbox for touching his stuff. Don't get into fights. There are some annoying players who only play the game to bait people into fights so they can fuck you up. Just run away and hide...or stand your ground and fight and probably die but hey you might learn something. Explore the maintenance tunnels. This is where you dirty assistants belong and there's actually some neat stuff in there. Sure you might also get killed horribly by someone or something, but what better way to fasttrack learning the ins and outs of the game than to get your ins turned outs repeatedly. Have fun at your own expense. The only true objective in this game is to have a good time. Try not to ruin other people's in the process.

@@Dorf274I found a better way to get medical's attention: use the brain tumor modifier, got in medical for scrambled speech and had brain surgery (no anesthetic) then later need it again, restocking the pills and whatever, also was a moth and got turned into a cyborg

SS13 is probably one of my favorite games ever, on my first ever time playing I spent the entire game being taught how to build a robot by some guy while the station exploded around us. On the second game I accidentally joined a cult, accepted drugs from a stranger, and got turned into a monkey. I then managed to get into the kitchen and decimate the station's entire supply of bananas. Then the chef brutally murdered me, butchered my corpse and started serving "Monkey steaks" to people. On my third game I managed to get my character so drunk that it broke the game, giving me permanent inability to speak. So I go to the medbay to see if they can fix my alcohol induced brain damage, but since I can't explain to them what the hell I did to get this fucked up, I just have to hope they figure something out. They then spent the entire rest of the game trying to figure out why I can't speak, while satan himself was trashing the station right next to us. Eventually the shuttle arrives and everyone leaves, except one guy who is _absolutely determined_ to figure out what's wrong with me, so he spends as much time as possible trying to do that, and finally, the game ends on these glorious last messages: "Okay so" "I've checked literally everything" "I have no idea what the fuck is wrong with you" **Station explodes**

Best roles to learn the basics of the game are: janitor, cargo tech, bartender. If, while exploring maint, you stumble on an assistant with no visible ID, a gas mask and covered in blood - run. Just run. Floor tiles are a surprisingly good throwing weapon and can be crafted en masse from simple iron. They also can be carried in stacks of 50 which is very neat.

My first round, I went to the library, and tried to figure out how to set up my emergency oxygen tank and gas mask. I saw I was feeling weird, shivering, gasping for breath and then I blacked out. Had I done something wrong? Hmm. Considering that a scientist is now dragging me into a dark corner of maintenance, and strangling me, and extending a proboscis, maybe not. As a ghost, I watched murderer sneak into science, claim another scientist as a victim, and then assume his likeness and role as the xenobiology expert. Then he conjured up an army of monsters, including a tree? Which he then made sapient, and bound to serve him? And then lead his army of monsters through the halls to seize the escape shuttle, only to be undone by an expertly timed clown intervention- the clown stepped out of maint and slipped him, then dragged him away before his charging army realized their leader was no longer among them. So it was that I was introduced to one of space station 13's most fundamental truths: A bad clown player is annoying. A good clown player is hilarious. A great clown player is *terrifying.*

@̣ Game is nothing like battle royale, sounds like dude just joined a more free-for-all server. The big, main servers generally have rules regarding escalation, ie you can't just run up and murder someone for no reason, there has to be a legitimate escalation between both players. There are also heavy RP servers so I dunno what that guy's on about. It's a ~20 year old open source game, anyone can make a server. There are even TDM-ish servers based on Ridley Scott's Aliens and the Fallout servers that pop up now and then (but, last I saw, generally consisted of degenerates ERPing and raping each other.

Later I died to the first cultist I tried to fight

This is by far the best SS13 video I have ever seen. Excellent commentary, formidable editing, superb storytelling - then again, the game made that on its own hehe. This is the type of game where death and destruction is never a failure ( if inflicted upon you of course ). After all, is our IRL death a failure? No, it's just the end of a journey we all have to go through, and there is no escape. SS13 is just like life; you first begin not knowing anything, your efficiency depends on the quality of your parenting, you eventually mimick what the adults do, you learn, you fail, you learn from your failures... I now very often play Barotrauma which is to many SS13's spiritual successor, but it has a long way to go before it reaches SS13's complexity ( if that is even in the dev team's plans of course ).

I miss this game so much. Haven't been able to play after my laptop bricked 4-5 years ago. I used to be an admin on Athena Station before it became Hypatia Station before it became Aurora Station (which was nice to see it's still on the server list). I used to have a lot of fun messing with the telecommunications. You could run custom "scripts" where it would filter phrases or anything from specific people into whatever you wanted. I once made it impossible for a Hulked out guy to use his radio since every time he spoke it would be replaced with "Hulk **random verb** your **random body part**!" Got pretty good at setting off the onboard nuke just modifying 3 variables. Oh, and the amount of brain damage I gave griefers was immeasurable and hilarious. Damn, do I miss this game.

my first round I wandered around aimless, got fed rainbow drugs, started to throw up and lost the ability to walk. I had to crawl to medbay for help. while on my way to medbay, a radiation wave hit, and I was not in a protected area. got irradiated, and anyone who touched me got irradiated as well. finally someone came along to help and dragged me to the medbay. the doctors tried to fix me, realized they couldn't, and a security officer dragged me into a maintenance duct to slowly die. so I sat there making my character scream while I rotted away in the duct. someone eventually found me, and to shut me up, beat me to death with a baton LMAO.

Something that cemented my love for this game was actually playing on a server where you could use random stuff to do impromptu surgery. I removed someone's infected appendix with a shard of glass and sewed him up with electrical wires. He died, but at least it wasnt from a burst appendix

Space Station Tips from a Novice Player 1. Check your backpack! The box you have inside usually contains some sort of Internal Atmospheric Gear (at least, i think that's what the long term is.) or just referred to as Internals. Goonstation usually randomizes what gear you get. Sometimes you get a suit, oxygen mask, and emergency tank, other times you get a mask. ---------------------------- 2. Be careful with PDAs! If you happen to speak in radio too much, or are disliked way too much, a Traitor can buy a special item and insert it into their PDA, which can mail you a virus that explodes your PDA! It can also destroy ID cards put inside PDAs with the blast, i'll elaborate on the next one. ---------------------------- 3. Insert your ID card into your PDA! Your PDA normally comes separated from your ID, but if you grab your ID, put it into your active hand, and click on your PDA, you can stuff your ID into your PDA! Then, you can move your PDA into your ID slot. Ta-da! ---------------------------- 4. BELTS!!! I cannot tell you how great having a Medical Belt is, you can stuff various medical tools (analyzer, hypospray, surgical tools) in it and you won't have to constantly scavenge through your bag! (Sort of applicable on Goonstation, because everywhere else, hyposprays are given to the Chief Medical Officer/Medical Director.) ---------------------------- 5. UPGRADE EVERYTHING YOU CAN SEE. Your medical goggles are upgradable! Vend an upgrade at a medical vendor and stick them into your glasses, same way you did with your PDA and ID. (Only applicable in Goonstation.) Your medical analyzer is! ---------------------------- 6. Call for security whenever you're feeling like you're about to get robusted! This is very valuable, and if a Brig Physician sees you in crit while a Changeling is eating you.. that Changeling is dead. (Applicable on /tg/ codebases.) ---------------------------- 7. Summon a securitron to your position, and set somebody to ARREST in the security records. You can do this with your Security PDA! (R.O.B.U.S.T cartridge required.) ---------------------------- 8. Prepare! If you hear something like "BLOB IN THE STATION", ready a welder. /tg/ codebases: Hearing 'tesloose!!!' or 'singulo loose!!!'? Grab a crowbar for disabled doors and airlocks. ---------------------------- 9. Always be ready to fight or hack open doors, vendors, and people's skulls. Grab a toolbelt! Awesome, I remember when I started playing this game in 2013. The first round I walked into the hall, saw a guy dragg a cute doggo along. So naturally I followed them, who didn't want to pet dogs after all? So they walk into this room... And he stuffs the dog in the washing machine. I only briefly played SS13. On my adventures I would usually sign up as SA and get completely ignored. One time I followed an engineer into a 'vent' and couldn't get back out, because I didn't have the door access. Somewhere in the corner I found some kind of tool cabinet. Just like in point and click adventures, I tried using everything with everything, until I figured out how to disassemble the pipes running across the floor. That eventually led to some commotion, which the clown used as a diversion, eventually ending up in my vent and murdering me. I had a good time.
