Thanks for this brilliantly explained video Mark. On your shopping list I have found the same fan from stoney racing, but did they also supply the other items? e.g. .hoses, thermal switch, mikalor clips, overide switch.. If not can you point me in the right direction please. I'm in uk and want to make the same upgrade.

Pair of great classic cars you have, and a nice garage also, how loud is new fan system from inside the Daimler.

Thanks Keith. Although it is a big fan (14" 160 Watt) and you will notice it, the noise it nothing extraordinary, especially with the bonnet closed and engine running.

Hi Mark. Great informative video. Can I ask what the driver was for this upgrade? Did you have issues any with cooling? Many people seem to be concerned with the cooling of both these Daimlers and the Jag. I'm currently in a position (part way through a resto) where I can take a number of routes with the cooling system and I'm still unsure about which direction I will take. I have an original radiator which I was going to get re-cored (~£300) but I see you have opted for an aluminium version. Did you do this yourself, if so, does it provide better cooling than the original? Either way, I think I will probably go with an electric fan (maybe the model you have chosen) due to the convenience and cooling power even when the engine is at idle. I can see you have a shot in the video of the components you used, but if you don't mind me asking, where did you get these and what was the cost? Anything you would have done differently? Thanks for posting.

Hi Steve, thanks for your response. Although I didn't have any issues with cooling, we do use the car a lot, including mainland Europe in the summer. I bought an alu radiator which is fantastic and wanted a better sucking fan instead of a little Kenlowe blowing fan. I've just had my engine professionally restored by the best in the UK (I think) and as he said 'watch out for overheating', I didn't want to take ANY chances... If you give me your email address or, maybe more secure, look mine up (Google or Facebook), I'll give you my shopping list etc. Hope this helps.

Mark, did you find out what the ticking noise was on your Daimler engine, and if so did you manage to cure it ? When I was an apprentice motor mechanic, they used to use a stethoscope type device to search for noises.
@Daimler-Jensen Жыл бұрын
Keith, short answer: NO! Had a lot of mechanics/engineers look, check and hear the engine, no solution. As we use the car a lot and will keep her till my end of days, I took the decision to have the engine professionally restored by Jonathan at J & E Engineering, who specialise in Daimler V8s. Absolutely chuffed with the result! It will now outlast me. Thanks for asking Keith, appreciated.

@@Daimler-Jensen I worked at a classic jaguar restoration company for a number of years, the earlier 6cyl engines sometimes made a similar noise, often from the cam buckets and sleeves/ orifices that the buckets run in. Anyway glad you will have it resolved. Beautiful v8 engine.

Will you do the same on the Jensen-Healey?

Good question and thanks for your comments! I had a quick look at Babs and it would improve things. There is just a little pathetic fan on the engine, spinning all the time, also when she doesn't need it. Quite easy straightforward job I think so watch this space!
