Mark… this might sound a bit dramatic…. But I was really into pallet projects as an idea, tried it, and hated it because of the time it took to disassemble and prep the wood. I wrote it off completely and just concluded I would have to dish out an arm and a leg on lumber to just practice and build any skill. I found your channel over the last few weeks… I’ve bought a pallet buster and used it today for the first time. Im giving it another chance. I feel like the pallet breaker will be a game changer and make it a better experience this time around!! Thanks for your channel and awesome projects! please don’t stop!!

In Texas, we have pallets from Pine to Mahogany! And I use them all! The Oak and poplar are my favorites! I use my Harbor Freight planer first then sand them down to make them pretty. Then I used hide glue to keep them together better. Anna White for plans! I love her stuff! But use the handheld metal detector for those hidden nails do not put them in your planer without it!

I've discovered your channel through Jesper makes. I've been interested in pallet woodwork for a while (like years) and I can't believe YT didn't recommend such a quality channel before. In Europe, there are far far less non pine pallets than in the southern hemisphere. I am currently using a stock of palletwood that I scavenged over 10 years ago, coming from Indonesian pallets (used to work on building a solar farm, with solar panels coming directly from Indonesia) to build myself a desk. I kind of disagree with you on pine. It is a bit dull, but the blueing of the wood because of mushrooms *can* make it much more interesting, and it would be a shame to hide it. Also there are all kinds of "pine". It can tend to get closer to pink (douglas pine) red, orange, white, with wider or thinner grain. You don't need to paint it, or hide it. However, as you said in several videos, people need to learn to just not pick uninteresting pallets up, unless they plan to use them for hidden parts. There *are* interesting pine pallets out there, you just need to keep the eyes open and be patient. Cheers and keep up the good work!

Hey Bruv, if you buy any paint, get it "tinted" with white as well. All "tintable" paints are sold shy of volume because they are "designed" to be tinted. Just get artic white tint (pro tip) get artic white with 5ml additional black. It will make the white pop just right!

Sooo, I'm kinda new to woodworking and I live in Sweden where everything is made out of pine, so I just have a question. What's wrong with pine?
@bazanderson82832 жыл бұрын
hey, i guess that there is nothing wrong with pine per say its just that from a pallet perspective its usually low grade, so porous, can be filled with resin veins/knotting and aside from pallets it is a softwood so dents easily. Also the natural color can be frowned upon by some woodworkers as if left unstained over time will turn a yellow/orange color which some folks see as a hideous 70s look. Staining can be a challenge due to its resinous nature as it can make the staining blotchy but personally i think pine is great with some great grain patterns and can be worked with once you know the work arounds.

Little tid bit for the peoples. Avoid sanding a surface if you are going to use a bladed edge after. The grit will break off and some of it embeds into the wood. This does make bladed tools blunt much quicker. If it can sand wood it can sand your nice sharp blade.

The entire pallet thing is growing on me and I see many possibilities now! So I have lots of pallets; free solar energy as I panicked about power cuts last autumn; a recycling centre which often has electric scrap - I have an electric planer from there.
