Great cows congratulations 👏... what's your criteria for selection your priorities?

Good to hear you talking about OAD as a serious option to normal TAD milking. There's not a lot of it going on here in Ireland, or at least there's not a lot of discussion about it. People seem a little obsessed with kilos of MS per annum. If you were to make an educated guess would you say your business is more profitable now than if you were to go twice-a-day?

mikefoxo, we always have been OAD since we started 4 years ago. But as said in our video our animal health cost is lower due to less lameness, better cow condition, higher in cAlf rate, obviously less running costs due to operating only OAD and it doesn't require an extra person in the cowshed. Our production has increased every year. We are grass feed all year around with filling a gap with turnips (in the summer months) and silage during the winter and early spring. Feel free to ask specific questions you'd like us to answer.

mikefoxo we put our young cows and old ones on once a day. We find that works well

I am thinking of starting a dairy in South Central North Carolina. Are you still having success with once a day milking? Are there books you recommend to learn more about dairy farming?

David Jorgensen we have had very good success with OAD milking, the cows might produce slightly less but you gain in other areas. Cowshed running costs are lower. Better incalf rate, compact calving, save on cow health, more time for family and better work life. I've probably forgotten things. This year we calved 260 cows in 8 weeks and one day and submitted 90% of the herd up for AI. No seeders and no PG all natural. Last year scc averaged 88,000. As for books I don't know. We do get dairy nz booklets in the mail and on line. Find our Facebook page family, farming and fun and leave a message and I'll forward some info to you. Thanks for the question hope it helps

I always thought that you want all the cows thinking the there is 4 hungry calves that need feed twice away?

Family, Farming and funthe cows goes until the next morning milking when do you start the morning milking does the cow let down it's milk better on OTA does the cow stream out the tears without the second milking. I know some farmers he in the US milked one time a day for have heard my papaw and mamaw speak of it but they always milked twice a day.

roger wilson we start milking around 5:30 or 6 am, in the peak the cows come in dripping and do take longer to milk out because they give all there milk in one milking. thank.

Ben Hargest a cow does not think it feeds 4 calves at once at each milking. If that would be the case she would have 4 feeding at demand at all times and that would trigger the milk ducts to produce more as the body works on demand. However that would the cow require more feed to keep this up. Effectively we just keeping up the production by emptying the quarters once a day and preventing mastitis, as that would happen if you don’t milk at all.
