Great comparison Dave! So I'm 44 years old and I had a Daisy 880 when I was about 8-9 years old. I remember many fond memories of plinking with my Dad. So I was at Walmart today and there it was! The daisy stock it was too long for my kid to be able to comfortably shoot I purchase the daisy for her to be able to pump it because she could not bump the Crosman we heard the bird back to her shooting the Crosman because the stock of it is shorter and she was able to shoulder the gun

I grew up shooting both of these and I love both without bias. The Daisy has been the more comfortable air rifle to hold and also the more accurate for target shooting. However, I have 10x the amount of kills with the Crosman. I love both, just a different feel.

I bought the Crosman 2100 Classic 30yrs ago. It’s had thousands of bbs ran thru it and still shoots like new! Still have it and still shoot it once in a while. Very accurate awesome gun!! I bought a Daisy 880 for a friend a few yrs ago but wasn’t impressed at all. Cocking and shooting just seemed sub par compared to my old Crosman!! Cool video tho def brings back childhood memories plinking with friends!!

I got a cross man 760 in 1979. I ran the woods shooting all sorts of things. After college and a master's I found it in my parents barn. It was inoperable but I kept it all these years. I am now researching to rebuild it. So many great memories with that little gun.

You can buy a rebuild kit with the gaskets and the pump cup to rebuild your rifle, just go to eBay and you can find kits to do that. The older crossman's are way better than the new ones because the older ones the barrels have rifling in them, which will spin pellets like a bullet there for your accuracy is great. BB's never have any type of accuracy they don't spin like a bullet . Just go to KZbin and look it up how to rebuild a 760 pumpmaster and there's all kinds of information out there how you can do it yourself

Trouble with bb's falling in place with the crosman? Try pushing the magnet into the bolt a little bit. Just bought one today and the bb wouldn't fall at all. So I took it apart and tapped the magnet end of the bolt and it moved in enough to let a bb fall into place after putting it all back together. Tried to return it first and Walmart doesn't return or exchange bb guns. I hope this helps

I've had my Crossman since I was 13yrs old. When my son turned 13 in 2016 and gave him my rifle. I couldn't believe how accurate & solid it still was. And I had shot this alot. Great rifle for starters!

I bought the Daisy 880 specifically because it had a rifled barrel for more accuracy. I was somewhat disappointed with the accuracy then as I used the gun more and more I realized that the problem was that the trigger was kind of hard and it caused me to tighten my fist and pull the shots to the right. I made a concerted effort to relax my hand as I pulled the trigger and it made all the difference in my shooting with all my shots in a very tight area.

I had the same kind of thing with an umarex ruger mk4 air pistol, the trigger was so heavy, all my shots were going way over to the left, but after practice learning how to control the trigger pull and breaking it in I've managed to tighten my groups a lot.

Great video, enjoyed that a lot. Besides the 760, Crosman made another rifle that was bigger, more similar to the 880. It was called the 766 American Classic. That was my first high powered BB air gun in '79. Before that I just had a Daisy single cock BB gun. Then in '85, I bought myself a brand new 880. I still have that one too. Both the Crosman 766 and the Daisy 880 were really good air rifles, man I loved them both and still do!

I found a vintage 1976 crosman 761xl at a pawn store and that thing at 10 pumps makes squirells explode litterally.. I know its bad but i couldnt resist i gad tobse hiw strong it was since i didnt knoww how long it was sitting at the pawnshop. I dont know what it is but the bb guns from the 60s 70s and 80s seem much stronger then wats out today.

The 766 which I had also was replaced essentially by the 2100B Classic. 75-80$ the last time I bought one which was about 20 years ago at K-Mart. Great 10 pump higher quality BB gun. Trick is to only shoot pellets in it and use a decent 4X32 scope. BBs do make a mess of the rifling's over time.

I had both of these as a kid. My Crossman had the short pump action making it tougher to pump up, but like your results here I do remember the Crossman being noticeably more accurate than the Daisy when it came to BBs. I distinctly remember the feeling that many of the shots out of the Daisy were not landing where I was aiming...

I have a Daisy 880 and I like it very much. Accurate and fun to shoot. Very good value for money. Also, it is easy to pump. Even a ten year old can pump it up to the recommended maximum of ten pumps without problem. This is not always the case with multipumps. Very often they become a lot harder to pump the closer you get to the max limit. But pumping up the Daisy is a breeze.

My 880 was pretty accurate. I spent lots of time in my Dad's basement shooting from my "custom" bench rest setup (sat on a metal 5gal roofing tar pail and rested the forend on the chute of an old Ariens snowblower). Had the 4x scope mounted. I shot at wooden matches at 20ft trying to light them. Never did light a match, but did hit the red part pretty consistently. Now that I think about it, those matches were probably strike on box so it would have been impossible to light them. Had lots of fun trying!

I had one of these daisies when I was a kid back in the '80s. It was terrible with daisy ammo of any kind, but tightened up considerably with Crossman copperhead bb's and some other brand (honestly, I don't remember what it was at this point) pellets. It was best/most consistent at about 8-9 pumps with bb's, but you could pump it to about 12 without the overpressure valve going off with hollow point "hunting" pellets, and it shot super flat and hit really hard with those. I don't know what it'd do with modern alloy/light weight pellets, but it loved higher pressures with the old heavy lead ones. That little pellet gun is the reason I fell in love with shooting, and I wouldn't trade those memories for the world.

I had a LOT of time with a Daisy Model 25. It was a one pump, open sights with a tube magazine which held 50 bb's. The actual barrel the bb's traveled down was about14 inches. The magazine/barrel was one piece and screwed into the front of the rifle. It was quite powerful for a one pump and surprisingly accurate. Allowed to run free in the woods with it, I'm ashamed of the things I did with it, but that's on me. This was something I learned, and I raised my kids differently.

Grey squirrels are game animals and I never had any pest greys to deal with beyond their annoying bird feeder nonsense. Tasty if you cook them tender.

I haven't tried the Crossman, but I've had an 880 for about 12 years. I'm consistently surprised by it's accuracy. The Daisy pellets are crap though. I've had better luck with Gamo pellets.

Grew up in the 60’s Dave. Back in those days parents were happiest when they couldn’t hear your screams. My two buddies and me had many a BB gun battle and when we got tired of shooting each other we’d capture a couple neighborhood kids and give them the count of 3. Can you imagine what would happen today? Thank God no one was ever hurt and the truth is our Daisy guns weren’t anywhere near the power of the ones you tested. They’d give you a welt and hurt like the dickens but that was about it. They were Winchester style and only single pump as I recall. The gun loaded out near the end of the barrel, and you had to turn the end of the barrel to open up a loading hole. The weird thing was if you failed to fully close that hole and pulled the trigger nothing happened, then when you realized what had happened and turned the end of the barrel to close the hole the gun would fire. Not the best design, I shot my finger more than once. As always Dave I enjoyed your video a great deal.

Numerous friends and I had air rifles growing up in the early to mid 70's. A couple had Daisy's and a couple had Crosman's. I had a Crosman 760 pumpmaster and we spent many a day together traveling the woods and fields pretending to be Jeremiah Johnson or Davey Crockett! Did have a friend that came from a more affluent family and he was gifted a Sheridan Blue Streak .22 cal. That was the top of the line pellet gun back then and there was some rifle envy if truth be told. Sure do miss those days but graduating to 22's, shotguns and full bore centerfire rifles was nice too. I do have a high power springer type pellet rifle in .22 cal that I enjoy to shoot on occasion now.

The main difference between the two guns is that the daisy has a rifled barrel (Which is why it does not shoot bb's well). You should be able to achieve extremely tight groups if you use the right pellet. With my personal 880 I am able to consistently shoot 1/4 inch groups at 10 yards using a 2-7x power scope and RWS super dome pellets. I have owned several 880's and 901's through the years and have noticed they have always shot superdomes well. Generally these guns like pellets with a wider head size. The cheap pellets made by daisy and crosman do not perform well because they do not fully engage the rifling. If you do not feel any resistance when closing the bolt after loading a pellet that is a good indicator that the pellet is not engaging the rifling.

Great video Dave, thanks. I have both rifles and what I find to be true with both is: You have to see what pellets work for each gun. Even two daisy 880s can prefer different pellets from each other. Both the 760 and the 880 can be modded. Made to pump quietly. There are after market seals that allow you to pump 15 times and bring up your velocity another 100fps. And adding a better scope than the cheap ones they come with goes a real long way. Keep making the great videos, your newest fan😀

(I find the gun has always be very accurate. 1" to 1.5" groups at 15 yards with the super Point pellets. believe they're made by Beeman) Have you noticed any change in accuracy with the mod for the additional FPS?

Had the pumpmaster back in the 1980s. Great rifle. I was THAT kid though... I'd put 8 or 10 BBs down the barrel and shoot out over the pond. Had to keep barrel up so they wouldnt roll out the end. Also shot a perfect hole through the tip of my index finger. Was expecting a blast of air but a BB accidentally chambered. Oops lol. But that was the only time I ever shot my finger so while it was dumb, I did learn from it.

One day, the pump just didn't catch like it just slid up and down with no resistance. So I bought a Gamo and that wasn't such a great move. For the money, I am in the market again and thinking just to go with another 760.

I totally agree. I would never chose crosman over daisy. I have both those guns crosman is WAY harder to pump. The bbs don't load as nicely as the daisy. The Daisy is lighter, feels better in your hands and WAY more accurate than corpsman.

Not today!!! I upgraded to pcp 25 semi-auto 10 shot mg. delivers 50FPE. It's a beast and I love it. And got a 380fps crossbow with scope, oh boy.(PENETRATOR) ... both are very quiet. I believe the Crosman barrel 760 come with a smooth bore barrel so that why it shoots bb's better. The Daisy will shoot if you find the right pellet for it.

Many years ago I use to coach a local competitive youth shooting team co-sponsored by the US JC's and Daisy BB Gun Co. I was always amazed at how accurate the BB guns were. That being said I invested in a Daisy Red Rider for old times sake and to teach my grandchildren safe gun handling and shooting. I am sorry to say that BB gun was a poor shooter ad very inconsistent. No longer made in Arkansas as before. I am very disappointed. The Pellet and BB guns were much better when I was a kid. Good Luck

I'm 55. I had a daisy powerline 880. At about 30 to 40 feet I could shoot about a 50 cent size. I got a certificate for 12 and under at 4H camp. One of my cousins could make all his shots touch with his 880. I'm not sure what bb guns were used but I watch my friend and my brother shoot bottles in the air. My brother used a pistol. My friend used a rifle. I could never do it. Also my old 880, when it was new, would penetrate an aluminum can with one pump and the can wouldn't fall over.

Crosman 760 Pumpmaster - smooth bore barrel Daisy 880 - rifled steel barrel This is why the 760 shoots more accurately with bb's and the 880 with pellets. It's the same as a shotgun vs a rifle. Firing bb's or shot in a rifled barrel will result in poor accuracy and damage the rifling over time. Lead airgun pellets need a twist imparted on them like a rifle bullet to stabilize during flight. So between the two... choose by whether you want to shoot bb's or pellets and stick with that projectile type.

I have a 760 thats so old it still has the rifled barrel. Recently bought a seal kit for it and completely rebuilt everything and now it shoots like it did when I first bought it in 1999. Ok, so I also modded it as well thanks to KZbin videos! Shooting just shy of 800 fps on 8 pumps. Because I decreased the volume of the valve assembly, i don't pump it beyond 8. Any more than that and I risk valve locking the poor thing!

From what I have seen, I the earliest 760s were smoothbores. Sometime after that, they switched to a rifled barrel for a while, and then switched back to smoothbores, where they remain currently. I recently purchased a 760 purposely because of the smoothbore. I wanted one rifle that I could dedicate to BBs and not wonder if the rifling might be damaged by shooting BBs in a rifled barrel.

I had both as a kid. Well still have my Daisy 880 that I had as a kid and one I bought from Walmart a year ago. It is modified though with a carbon fiber shroud, 3D printed baffle, pic rail and bug buster scope. Less then 1" group at 20 yards. The Daisy 880 that I had as a kid is not in working order but could be. I found seal replacement kit for it but it cost as much as buying a new gun so I opted to do that instead. As a kid I liked my Crosman best due to accuracy.

Had them both & my $38.00 Walmart Daisy with the right pellet is very accurate. I put 1000s of bbs + pellets thru it and it finally broke. I had the Crossman as a kid & will buy both again.

Had a crossman 760 20 years ago, was pretty pleased with it's accuracy especially with pellets. Got a new one a few years ago, pellet accuracy was awful and found they were tumbling every which way. Discovered the Crossman had a a brass barrel, with NO RIFLING!! I was pretty shocked, has this changed ?

As far as current models, I have to give the nod to Daisy. My 901 was a little more expensive but the build quality is a lot better. Crosman did just introduce a new .22 pumper called the 362. It could become king of the under $100 guns.

@@KnettersPracticalOutdoors Another thing I forgot to mention is the 760 pumpmaster is a smoothbore and the Daisy 880 is rifled. The Daisy 35 is smoothbore and is very accurate with BBs. You might try the 880 again with heavier pellets if you want to shoot it at 10 pumps. Mine does well with h&n barracuda hunters. It shoot lightweight pellets better at 5 pumps.

Thanks! I got my Daisy 880 in 1972 when they first came out. I STILL HAVE IT and it was used hard! I had to fix the stock that broke much later in life and rebuild the pump, which came with a new handle, from Daisy. Back in the day, you had to buy the scope separately. The frame on mine is smooth metal and a solid gun for what it is and shoots well. ...I always thought Crossman BB's were made a little bit better/smoother, which might add a variable to this comparison.

Shot the 760 back in the late 80s with the shorter pump. I could consistently shoot the tips off glass bottles @ 50 ft. Just bought an 880 last night with scope. I'm older now so eyesight is a little difficult using regular sights so I am initially using the scope and trying to get groups with it. I'm learning how to shoot again so my breathing and squeezing are not like it used to be. Give me a few days with it and hopefully my grouping gets better.

The 880 has indeed changed over the years. The use of more plastic and the internals are different and all models since around the early 80s are now riffled. The outward appearance, size and dimensions haven't seemed to change though. Still the modern day 880 is a great gun. Even though it's mostly plastic wrapped around a metal chassis the fit and finish is tight and of good quality especially when compared to the crosman pumpers. Years ago when I owned my first 880 I also owned a crosman 66. Back then I felt the crosman was more accurate but the Daisy was more powerful. I'm not sure if my 880 back then was riffled or not. Today I own a modern day 880 and a crosman legacy 1000. When the 1000 was working properly it was more powerful then The 880 but accuracy is equal in my opinion. I get speeds on average tested with my crono of 680 fps using a 8.2 gr pellet and an effective range out to 40 yards. Some day maybe I'll order a set of seals for my legacy 1000 but honestly I'm in no hurry because I love my 880 so much and I really don't miss shooting the 1000 because The 880 is such a great gun.

I had the crosman when I was a kid (about 8 years old) and I had a lot of fun with it hunting and plinking. But when I went to college a cousin borrowed it and it never came back. So I bought another one when I was about 35 but my brother in law wanted it and I gave it to him. When I was going to buy the third one it was out of stock and I bought the Daisy. After watching your video I did the same test and I found it is very inaccurate with BBs but very accurate with pellets regardless how many pumps you do. I did the testing with open sight and also with the included scope.

Hey Dave ,,, my folks gave myself and my brother both , new 760 Powermasters one year for Christmas ( 75' , 76' ) ,, I still have both of them to this day . Mine still shoots like new, my brother's stopped working years back . Probably just a seal , but I kept his in case mine ever stopped working ..... As for accuracy , it was as good as we were at the time ..... many a frog and a few assorted other "varmints" felt its wrath . Never owned a daisy , so can't speak to those... but I wouldn't give up my Crosman for anything .... So many good memories . After all, isn't that why we still play with them today , to relive our youth !! Good review , and I may have to pickup a new 760' and do my own comparison 😀

The barrel has to set in on the daisy 880 it is new riflings and the 880 will out shoot them all with crosman hollow points that's what they like I shoot the new and old models every day I can every time at 30 yards hit a 2 inch target with both guns I just got my son a new 880 and his is the same thing he is 11 years old and can hit that 2 inch target about 8 out of ten times at 30 yards so we both have the crosman 760 to but not so good just break that barrel in or clean it and get some crosman hollow points you will see then the 880 likes a heavy pellet no bbs it has a rifled barrel you shouldn't shoot bbs in it they do make lead bbs for rifled barrels they work good in the 880 just a tip and fact

The Daisy 22x is a version of the 880, but it has a wooden stock and is .22cal. It's usable for hunting rabbits and squirrels. If you want to spend a little more you can get a benjamin392 or a sheridan blue streak. Those are very good rifles for plinking or hunting small game.

The older crosmans were much more powerful then todays pumpmasters, you also have to add a scope to get the best experience, I found a vintage 1976 crosman 761xl at a pawn store (has real wood unlike the plastic of today) and that thing at 10 pumps goes 600ft and makes squirells explode litterally n super accurate with a scope.. I know its bad but i couldnt resist i had to see how strong it was since i didnt know how long it was sitting at the pawnshop. I dont know what it is but the bb guns from the 60s 70s and 80s seem much stronger then wats out today

hi dave, ken here. i think i'm a bit older than you and i can remember early versions of both guns having wood stocks. in the last 10 years or so, ive had a couple of each and had opposite results youve had as far as accuracy, i was always better with the daisy. i think it important to note, if i am right here, is that the daisy is rifled, but the new 760's are smooth bore. this could account for the crosman having decent groups with bb's b ut all over the place with pellets. recently i stepped up my game with my first break barrel rifle, a 22 cal benjamin prowler, which is actually a crosman. i havent yet had the chance to sight it in but have shot a few rounds into different mediums and it sure has power. but a really cool thing that just happened today was that my brother was visiting from florida to get some things he left up here in ohio and gave me a new youth model mossberg 20 gauge shotgun, and a daisy powerline 901. now i have something to shoot bb's from and i'm the kinda cheap bstrd that digs steel bb's outta things and use them again lol

I use to have the daisy 880. I would place 2 pellets in it at once one behind the other and it still shot with extreme accuracy! Both pellet hit the target at the same time leaving a bigger hole causing twice the damage

I have had both in the past, but i found as for ammo, i tended to usually go with crossman due to the quality was better. Then when I found gammo, i started using thier pellets. The ones i tend to use now are are either magnums and hunters because they are more uniform and fit just a bit tighter in the barrel.

In 1967, My parents gifted me a Crosman 'Powermaster' 760 (not pumpmaster then), which was the predecessor of the pumpmaster 760, with the short forearm. My model had a white metal receiver and a brass bolt, and a solid wood stock and forearm. I think the only plastic on this rifle was the BB Magazine feed button. It had a rifled barrel (meekly rifled) but I always worried about shooting BBs out of it to avoid damaging the rifling. I primarily used crosman pellets. The pellets were insanely accurate in my gun and found that I quickly learned my personal marksmanship limitation and decided to mount a scope, Crosman 4x I think.The thing was scary accurate and could easily put pellets in the same holes at 10-15 yards. I believe, according to the manual, we could pump it up, not to exceed 25 times but found that beyond 12-15 pumps, it would just leak the pressure. My closest friend received one that year as well. We literally shot these to their ruin. Wish I could get another one from that year. About 10 years ago, I bought a Walmart Crosman Pumpmaster 760, with the short plastic forearm, for $39 and was seriously disappointed with the rifle. It was all plastic, Felt cheap, and couldn't shoot a group to save it's own life. I thought, what an embarrassment for Crosman to sell this thing and name it like the original. They should have named it the POS 760. I also have, STILL, a Crosman Model 1400 Pumpmaster in .22 Cal. All wood and steel and still shoots. Crosman used to make some might fine air rifles.

I bought the 760 pump master for my 11 year old son and he likes it. I was going to get him a 880 daisy but I'm glad I went with crossman . If you get Hoppes air rifle cleaning kit and clean and oil the barrel you will get the better groups and way more power. The crossman f 4 is a great pellet rifle I have also. Crossman is reliable and accurate

I had a crossman 760 when I was a kid in the 60's I'll never forget discovering the box in my dad's closet 2 weeks before Christmas...I had all I could do to keep my excitement from giving away the fact that I had been in his closet! The lovel wood furniture and blued steel barrel still shines in my memory. It was built like a real rifle. The magnetic bolt never failed to pick up a BB. A much nicer design and craftsmanship compared to these.

It's the pellets you were using in the daisy. Try RWS Superdomes 8.44 grains you will see a drastic improvement. I also removed the daisy shroud and taped up the end or the barrel, then put the shroud back on, so that the barrel and shroud contact was very tight. This 880 shot incredible groups at 20 yards. I put a scope on mine but not the one that came with that daisy. I only shoot pellets, BB's are hard on the rifling in the daisy.

My first airgun was the crosman model 73 saddle pal, first gun I ever bought. Sort of a rite of passage for me. Had a lot of fun with it. That was around 40 plus years ago! (I'm in my 50s now) daisy and crosman always made great airguns. By the way, daisy makes great bb's, but the pellets are lousy.

Great comparison and you’re exactly right I have tested both of the models since the 80s and the results are just the same as yours sometimes does the Crosman and sometimes it’s Daisy , but the most newest guns right now the Crossman is more accurate I’d have to agree with that but before this the powerline was always more accurate.

I had one of the 1960's crossman with 10 pump max but you could still pump it alot more with a lot more power. I even pumped it up to 100 times before. Did not pump it that 100 times to many times because it would wear you out. Also the crossman does have windage ajustment it is the tap type. You tap the side of the sight for ajusting.

Worked at a Hobby Shop that sold Air Rifles. Even the High Power 9mm 40cal and 45cal 45cal hollow points at 3000psi and needed a $300 Air pump to pump them up ( or taken to a Dive Shop ) and can be use to Hunt Deer and Boar. We sold Daisy Pellets and Crosman Pellets. You could see the quality difference just by eye. Crosman were Oily and Misshapen. Daisy's were Dry and Perfect. Tried both Daisy and Crosman Inexpensive Rifles. Had a 40' Shooting lane in the store for costumers to try before they buy. 10 Full Pumps and Crosman could never hit the target. Targets being 6" round. The inexpensive Daisy 856 ( if I remember correctly ) for $65 came with shooting goggles, Pellets and BB's, 4x Scope and a few targets. At 3 Pumps... Only 3... Using Daisy Pellets, I not only Hit the Target but Bullseyes and several through the Same Hole... Used Crosman Pellets and 3 Pumps... Could not hit the target if my life depended on it. Hell, they wouldn't even hit the slightly larger than Notebook Paper the targets were made/Printed on.. You may say "Bullshit" and call me a Liar but I made my Own Targets using 3x5 Card Stock and used a pencil to draw targets slightly smaller than a thumb tack and hitting them dead center with just the 3 Pumps, 4 pumps to go through the card stock and was putting them through the same holes... I had the Store Owner Sign the Cards so I had proof and still have them. We sold Several Daisys after that. So I would go with Daisy and only use Daisy Pellets.

I have both and have used both a bounce there both great it’s basically what ever you can find is fine there not super expensive crazy good guns but there both great in there own ways

I had a 880 back in the mid to late 70's. My best friend had the Crossman 760. Both were good pellet/BB guns. Well made and accurate for many years. Hundreds of starlings, squirrels, etc can vouch. The ones that are out there now only look like the original, and are junk. That's too bad. FYI...if your ever in Rogers Arkansas go to the Daisy museum. I had several of those guns that are in the museum growing up. It's good.

One thing I like about the Crossman is that they don't even bother including a scope. The scope that comes with the Daisy leaves much to be desired, and most people wind up tossing it anyway.

the crosman m4-177 would have been a more fair test imo because the new 760 is a smooth bore and there is a difference when it comes to accuracy as you can see,in my hood the rich kids all had the Benjamin Sheridan's , crosmans were the next in line and most of us just had daisy red riders , Love the video and memories you brought back

Thanks for this VERY thorough review. I'm glad you specified the ammo to remove that from the equation. Sad the Daisy quality has gone down hill. I could repeatedly hit a nail on the head from 50' when I was a kid. Seems like they gave up on accuracy for a little more power. My friend had the crossman - glad they increased that stubby pump on it - I was clumsy and likely to slip and catch my fingers.

From my experience crossman is just the better pick It's more accurate Ive killed more with it while hunting and hit more targets while just messing around Daisy is good if you got it I've hunted with it before but I prefer crossman Also should say I still use the same pump master for pest control even now

I've had both...I can't say that I ever felt one was superior. At 57 years old, the only one I reflect on wistfully is the Daisy Model 25. The magazine unscrewed from the barrel. My dad bought it from a long defunct , mom and pop, hardware store in the summer of 1971.
