This is my first year ice fishing. I am guilty of ripping my auger up after I get through to get that lip to come up. Guess Ill stop and use my spud to get rid of the lip. Great advice. Keep up the good work.

Once the blades are past the bottom of the hole, you could use the screw part to push down on the lip of the hole, but those can get bent too. And some are more like plastic these days.

I also wanted to let you know Mitchelle had 3 different size spools for the 300s....small, medium, and large.

Great video. I've watched a ton of videos on deer processing but needed an in depth video just like this. I feel like i have always wasted too much while trimming. The only other video that I would love to watch is the same as you did for the front shoulder, but this time on the meat on the chest and ribs.
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors3 күн бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you found it helpful. As far as the ribs go, just take off any flank meat that can be shaved off. Then sometimes we have cut out the meat between the ribs, but there isn't a lot there. Sometimes we shave off as much flank meat as we can and then nail the ribs to a tree for the birds. Similar to the bird suit that you can buy. Thanks again!

Last season I purchased my first flip over shack after upgrading from a vintage clam suitcase style shack. You touch on all the reasons I love mine and why I decided on the nanook as well. I have the Jason Mitchell edition similar to yours with the lightbar, battery holder, cover, I also got nice padded seat covers as well which is a nice option. I love mine because it makes a great one man fishing flip over with space for 2 if you want to fish with a buddy and you won't kill your back dragging it out on to the ice or loading it into your truck. I have found it also fits into the back of a mid-size suv as well as under the cover in the bed of my truck. Absolutely love this shack. Also great tip on the chair flip over idea! Keep up the great videos and be safe out there!
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors3 күн бұрын
Yes, I really feel this is a good size for a lot of my fishing. I have a larger hub style and if I go with several people I use that. No one shack is perfect for every situation, but this Nanook will cover many of them. Thanks for the feedback!

Did not see an update on the beaver leveler? Often times, they figure out the levelers. So folks cage the upstream intake.
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors3 күн бұрын
We only had mild success with it. One problem is that dam is holding back a quarter mile of water. So the leveler pipe is making water noises for days, even if the noises are coming from the discharge, because there is so much water to drain down. So the beavers instinctively keep working on the dam near the leveler and eventually plug the pipe. If you had a small pond and could get it down to pipe level before the beavers hear the gurgling noises and have a chance to work on it, they might not pay attention to it. At least I think that's our issue. We did install a cage up stream of a culvert they were damming up, and that has been working for several years now. LINK - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZa0pnmXYrWheac Thanks for the feedback!

I don't know the genetics of the pike where you are, but where i fish, they all have bones in the top back piece. I HAVE to cut it in half, like you did for that "Membrane". in every one of mine, that membrane has bones in it. I started to get tired of that and the waste of meat your method does, I started to study the structure of the fish, and can now filet one boneless and take almost ALL the meat.
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors7 күн бұрын

Having the bail potentially spin backwards a half a revolution-especially on the hook set...it might not really make a lot of difference but it's unsettling and drives me bonkers. Never understood why any of the old reels didn't have skirted spools when it seems such a no-brainer but hindsight is 20/20.
