Lay down fabric first. Get it tight. Then use a hole saw or a drywall ceiling light cut out tool to make perfect circles. Then plant. Dirt sits on fabric then it's an easy backfill especially if you have clay soil.

You explained how to add plants after this is down. What is the best way to lay this down around plants and bushes? Best place to cut the fabric etc.
@DaisyDukesLandscaping3 жыл бұрын
Great question! The easiest thing to do is stretch out your fabric to the link that you need it and line it up with the plants off to the side. Then simply make a slit in the fabric from the outside edge towards the middle and cut away just enough material for it to fit around the base of the plants. Once everything is laying flush I like to add another scrap piece the fabric and then laid over top of the cut that I made. This is going to be one of the next videos I make. I’ve tried it a couple times while working and videoing it myself but it just didn’t turn out right.

Thanks man. I spent a full day laying "professional-grade" weed barrier from Lowe's last year. All it did was make it more difficult to pull the weeds. They grow up through those tiny holes, which then act as a "catch" to prevent the root from being pulled through. Would have been easier to maintain WITHOUT that barrier. Anyway, I ordered the stuff you recommended.
@DaisyDukesLandscaping3 жыл бұрын
Hate to hear that but this stuff is much better. You might still get some weeds on top depending on if you use mulch or not, but the roots won’t penetrate this fabric nearly as easily as the stuff they sell on the big box stores, so if you do have to pull any weeds they should come up very effortlessly. You can also use any type of product with prodiamine and add it to the top of your mulch to keep any weeds seeds from germinating. It’s a “pre-emergent”.
@johnfisher49103 жыл бұрын

This was so informative. I used a very similar membrane in my front garden borders and 1 year on and not one single weed. The only part l didn't understand was the over lapping at the edges? If anyone could explain this to me, I'd be grateful Great video. 😊
@DaisyDukesLandscaping Жыл бұрын
The reason you want to overlap the edges is to reduce the likelihood of a weed seed germinating between the cracks of two pieces of fabric. If you butt the edges of two pieces of fabric there will be an seam with exposed or potentially exposed soil… to help less the likelihood of nuisance weeds getting under the edges of one piece of fabric or the other I recommend overlapping the two!! Hope that makes sense!!

Great video. Can you lay this material down and then cover with topsoil and plant flowers above the woven fabric? Thanks...
