Rick. I was watching this again and the reason you were having problems with the oscillation knob to the front was that you were putting a screwdriver between the side-plate and the housing to line up the AR switch. I move that switch from the outside pushing it ove by friction with a small screwdriver. That doesn’t move the oscillation gear while putting the two parts together. Both our ways work equally well I just do that one thing different to keep the oscillation gear from turning while aligning the AR switch in its hole. - Chris

Ha. I bought one of these for the very same reason. I will never ever get to use it, but it's a cool reel. I like just looking at it.

I own three of these as I’ve told you. Two are mint but one is more used. I have fished in the surf with mine and it was a great reel for that kind of fishing. I bought my first one because I was curious about that anti-reverse mechanism. Then I found out is was worm gear reel and I was hooked. Two of mine are black but one is tan in color. I got the tan one in the original box with everything for only $5.00 plus shipping. My two black ones are mint with one being brand new in the original box, etc. these are solid, durable reels with brass bushings and an oversized pinion bearing. I may get to use my slide hammer on that tan one of these reels I have that I haven’t serviced yet. I have much more problems with bail release mechanisms than bails and bail springs. I just want it to get warm enough in my garage so I can do some work on reels again. I have a heater but my garage is big with a very high ceiling. I wish these reels had a better drag. I’ll check mine to see if my reels have more drag washers. I’ve serviced two of these reels but it was several years ago and I just don’t remember all the details. You did a thorough job on this reel Rick. Great video on one of my favorite reels. - Chris

I loaded this one with 25 pound monofilament line today but I’m not sure I’m going to keep that on there. It seems a bit too much to me. Trip releases are usually harder to install than bail springs because they are down inside the rotor.

Wow - that is a *stout* set of gears. You were right: this is an interesting reel. I like it. Do you suppose the felt on the bail screw is intended to slow the bail flip? The spool looks plastic, which reminds me of a question I've had for a while. I've heard that mono fishing line can crack some plastic spools, and that the way to combat this is to use a little Dacron fishing line as backing. What are your thoughts on the subject?
@youngmartinsreels53149 ай бұрын
I was pretty sure you would find it interesting. I think the felt washer on the bail was an attempt to prevent sand and dirt from entering the joint. I could be wrong, because I’ve never seen that on a bail before. I have seen it on crank shaft entry points but not the bail. Then again, it might have just been a way to keep oil wicking into the joint. I have seen plastic and a few metal spools cracked by mono clamping down too tight. I broke the one on my cheap Sougayilang spinning reel. It had worked fine to catch several nice red fish. They one day I was fishing a ballon rig out about 150 yards in a strong wind. After the rig was brought in against that wind, the stored line tension in the line crushed the spool. I don’t see how Dacron line under the mono could prevent that from happening unless it just prevents the length of the mono from combining together to crush it. I think it kind of works like the rubber bands on a watermelon. If you haven’t watched one of those videos you should look it up on KZbin. The mono stretches so it acts like rubber bands.

@@youngmartinsreels5314 Yeah, I was skeptical of a little Dacron backing being the solution. Seems to me the real solution is to focus on limiting the amount of mono on the spool, which translates to a fair quantity of Dacron or other braid. Thanks for your input.

I don't know how they do it but I have seen a bunch of those bent screws
@youngmartinsreels53149 ай бұрын
The only way I can think of for that screw to get bent is if you dropped the reel and it hit on the end of the spool.

@@youngmartinsreels5314 yea you are probably right
