I wish the clicker was louder for soaking bait but that's my only issue with them, great reels.
@JeffSmith-eq3kc2 жыл бұрын
The jump to the 6500 is even crazier. My BG6500 is barely smaller than my Slammed IV 10500. I would say make sure you take care of the BG if it's used in the surf. I opened mine at the end of a season and it was totally loaded with salt. The zinc main gear corroded but I managed to only need a new main shaft. Since then I am super careful with it.
@Backlashed Жыл бұрын
yeah the BG isn't really sealed, I think the Saltist has some sealing to the body, it's a bit more expensive too.

5000 size bg is perfect for surf fishing, hold plenty of line both mono and braid, drag is sufficiently strong for almost anything you catch from the shore and they are solid powerfull reels.

My only complaint is that the drag clicker is kind of quiet, Its only an issue when you are soaking bait though.

What I see at a lot of reels from U.S. tests is that the spool is very often not fully filled with line. That costs you a lot of yardage when throwing. Your Penn is only filled 50% and the Daiwa BG maybe 70%.

in the Next video, you should drop those reels in to the pool and see which has best shield system.

actually none of these are shielded, some of the bearings are but not the bodies. Maybe that would be a good excuse to buy a Saltist and a Spinfisher and test them!

Thanks for the review. I just received my 4000 and didn’t realize how small it was. Not the same size as what I used to use for perch/striper fishing as how my dad used to setup his equipment. I think I’ll return it and get a 5000 instead or keep this and only use it strictly for perch. Having a versatile all in one reel though is nice and I’m going to be pairing g this up to an ugly stick 9’6 pole.

Hi would the bg4000 be ideal for lure fishing bass pollack wrasse etc
@Backlashed2 жыл бұрын
Sure, just be aware, as stated, that it will be a bit larger than most 4000's. Just check that line capacity and you'll be good to go.

I just bought a Battle III 6000 DX. Very smooth reel. I do like the auto bail release. Some reels now have manual bail releases with a thin bail wire. Not a good combination.

Hi a bg5000 will be fine for small tuna 20-30kg as max target? I'd like to use it for vertical and light trolling (12lb rod) 30lb braid 0.45 fluorocarbon
@Backlashed3 жыл бұрын
I think mine has 30lb braid, you might want to go heavier line for fish that big. Check Daiwa's site for the max drag; a 5000 has 22lb drag, should be enogh for that size fish.
@RSdd112 жыл бұрын
I use a 4500 for the same thing. Can get 9 lbs of drag out of it 2 turns off full if needed. The 4000 drag is too light, probably getting only 5 lbs out of it with 1 turn off full and only about 6 or 7 on full down. I was getting run pretty hard by about a 10 lb bonita on the 4000 so I bought a 4500. Keep in mind that the lower line holding models such as the 4500 have larger drag washers than the 5000. That is the trade off. Line for slight amounts of drag loss on the larger spool. I also have 50 lb braid on the 4500 as the 30 lb was digging into itself on tuna species.
@notlohhcaz2 жыл бұрын
@@RSdd11 I think you’re mistaking. 4000 have 17lb drags. 5000 has 22lbs. A 4500 is a 4000 with the drag and line capacity of the 5000
@RSdd112 жыл бұрын
I think they list those with an empty spool. I measured them with a brass scale at full spool. Force needed to move the spool against the drag goes up as the spool empties out. Shimano does the same thing. They list a Spheros 14000 FB at 44 lbs and the most I can get is 15 at full spool.
@notlohhcaz2 жыл бұрын
@@RSdd11 I didn’t know that. That’s pretty wack, considering most people have Atleast a half spool most of the fight
