Lol it took me nearly 4 hours to decide this between stella....almost identical in performance on paper....went with saltiga cuz it looked perfect with my st croix legend surf.

good video, try to gain ground to the STELLA! (color, number of sizes, 6.2 xg ratio, 80mm length handle...). We will have to see how it behaves with 30lb? drag, big gts and 300hours....that dogfight 8000 is low ratio! for jigging and weight with braid....and if you want the new SALTIGA low ratio there are only 18k=6500)

Hi do you know why Daiwa Saltiga 2020 selling in Japan or US market have different platform than the ones in South East Asia and Australia/ New Zealand? The Japanese model have unqiue serial numbers on a black plate instead of silver and different asthetic like the gold rings essence on the handle but The one selling in other countries have silver plate with model number (no serial numbers) and "made in Japan in it and no gold ring essence on the handle.

Depending on your spare coins but even off the shore I would go with quality hand made rod. Zenaq defi muthos or Tobizo 80-80. Ripple fisher are good as well.

Egg knob would be better if it was hard Eva foam. Also I believe the 8000 dogfight had 66 lbs of drag. 66 fukkn lbs. That Would haul in a hippopotamus. Saltiga 32?. I think? Dogfight wins

Van Staal makes amazing reels but for a different purpose. Van Staals are heavy, low gear ratio, have a stiffer reel to them, but they are fuckin sealed like nothing else and have immense power. more suited for soak fishing like live baiting and surf fishing. Saltigas and stellas are lighter, higher gear ratio, and are smooth as butter. used in situations where you're throwing artificials for hours, or jigging. plus if you've ever hooked into a pissed off pelagic fish, there is no time to be screwing around with a bail-less reel.

First of, I dont hate Vanstal or have anything against it but how could you compare Vanstaal to Daiwa/ Shimano. They both have nothing or trying to get close to the Vanstaal at all and completely built for different purposes. Personally, Vanstall is the ultimate reel for surf fishing. I am pretty sure "these companies" can produce 100% water proof reels 30 years ago but there are so much limitations to fully water proof reel. Right of the bat, unable to change sides of the handle. you have to get specifically right handed or left handed. No interchangeable parts if the reel is badly scuffed or damaged especailly on the main body as its made as one compartment. mind as well buy a new reel. Beside, realistically how many anglers would fish underwater most of the time. Therefore, there is no need for these "companies" to make fully water proof reels unless you want to do scuba diving fishing. Enough to handle splashes and dunk is enough.
