You don't use a shock leader?
@austinkroos4 күн бұрын
I don’t, just a 18” or 12” leader. Do you? I wouldn’t be opposed to trying one tbh.. sounds like a good idea

Here in Sweden the Prorex AGS/XR/X/E rods usually handle exactly the cast weight specified and not much more, some models do handle more than specified but i think that this is excellent as it is what is specified for. We have plenty of rod brands over here thats all over the place, some casting far far more than specified and likewise brands that doesn't even come close to its classification. The above issue is a plus in my book, i like to know what i buy and want to buy what is needed for the task at hand. The PROREX 300/400 reels is a tatula with some different coloured parts and as such is nothing new. Really good reels. I sold my Tatula 300 as it isnt needed for pike fishing, i only throw 4,5oz max and a strong brake arent really needed as you have a thumb. So on my PROREX X 8'0" -120g Lazy Pike V2 i have placed my Curado 201M HG and wow... What a match made in heaven.. 410g(14oz/0.9lbs) complete with line and leader, this reel is matching the rod perfectly, both very very refined and being newly designed they both are as good as it gets. I used to call my CuradoM a Katana and my Daiwa Tatula200/300 and coastal 200 TW reels a two handed sword, and on this rod the difference is very noticeable. So thr only Daiwa i didn't sell, Coastal TW 200 is placed on my 6'6" -120g Greys Prowla Platinum Pike which is pure magic.. completely balanced. From 2017 bougt new in May, rods like these arent made from any of the big rod brands except Daiwa. Abu/berkley/SG/Westin and many many more brands dont have a rod as refined as both my rods, not even at 3-4 times what i payed. You dont need a 400 or 500 reel for musky, daiwa is in scandinavia campaigning the use of 200 reels for pike as they handle it and are alot lighter so you can fish for longer And as such, prorex 300 handles any musky on earth but not any halibut on earth, thats where a 400/500 reel come in to play. And PROREX 300/400 is the same reel only wider. Tranx 300/400 is exactly 1cm wider ONLY and as such has more line than needed, heavier spool than needed and also heavier and broader than needed so i really really really dont get why so many known/tube musky fish 400/500 size reel... Why when you can get a lot lighter gear? Growing muscle is done in a gym. /Pz out from a rambling Swede.

@@OutofluckpikerMJK such an informative comment. Thank you! I agree. I look forward to downsizing my musky gear to be as light and efficient as possible for the longest sessions of casting possible. Thank you for sharing 🙏

@@austinkroos No worries. When you start fishing gear perfectly adequate for the work and is as light as possible, it gets alot more fun. It just becomes more harmonized, the fishing and casting. I will not go up to a 300 reel unless something new comes along, like a new gen Tranx, that is time to come I think, almost 10year old design, still perfectly fine but could be refined a bit. I think Shimano should put their SVS Infinity casting brake on the 300 reels to, so you can let the spool be as free as possible always and use the casting brake for casting, leaving the mechanical brake as loose as possible. Svs Infinity works fine with even heavy lures, don't know why they don't use it.. maybe Curado 300M or Tranx new gen will have it? Or at least the 8 pin Scorpion 300 brake. Only new pike/musky reel in the making is a new Revo Beast is coming to next season. Don't know if that info is out yet, but hey, see it like a nice tip ;) Will be costing too much for me, but I might pick up a current gen Revo Beast when it has arrived. Never fished it and some sing songs about its functionality and stability.
