This is also why I only use Daiwa Saltigas for my GT fishing. Damn tough reels.

I found some cheap looking reel called a rainbow completely compacted with sand internally. It was jammed in between some rocks and buried in seaweed below the high tide line. The broken rod that was 3 quarter worn thru from rubbing on the rocks was the only thing that was giving away that it was there. A clean up re grease and minor repair to the bail arm it ran as smooth as it would have been of the show room floor. Not even 1 spot of rust any where to be seen I gave the reel to a friend who caught good fish with it saying it works perfectly I didn't want it because I only like the egg beaters with bait runner settings.

Can change the handle from right handed to left handed.?
@OXTackle3 жыл бұрын
Sure can. This is a very old reel now though. The new 2020 Daiwa Saltiga is also a duel handed reel and is packed full of great technology. In my opinion it would be a great purchase if you are looking for one.

Has any shimano ever been found on the bottom tough to test this nope so you cant really justify your comment!

That is a fair comment Christopher. No one has ever found one in one piece so none have ever been able to be repaired and tested. Thanks for your comment

They found a shimano 20000 Stella 08 on the bottom still works fine on the bottom for 1.5years or something like that
@OXTackle6 жыл бұрын
Wow. I would love to see the condition it was in growth wise. The Saltiga was only down there for 6 months (the owner who lost it got in contact to let us know) and it looked like part of the reef. It was a huge job cleaning it up. Is there any pics or footage that you know of?

Could still send it in for warranty?
@OXTackle6 жыл бұрын
No manufacturer that I know of has a warranty that genuinely lasts more than a year, and none of them warranty a reel with corrosion/heavy water ingress or signs of miss treatment or abuse. This reel would probably fall outside of a warranty unfortunately. There are repairmen like me with the skills if you have the bills though lol, and this reel is still fishing to this day on the service I gave it in 2014

thats why Im DAIWA till the end I dont own any stellas but I do own a doghfight and my saltiga doghfight 8000h is smoother than the stella
@OXTackle7 жыл бұрын
Hi Armando. I am a Daiwa man myself but it is important to remember that the Stella and several other reels are still very good reels and have been responsible for some monster catches. It is good to know that there is a reason your Daiwa costs you more to purchase though.

Look at all the Daiwa fanboys here. I'm never into any specific brands because various brands make better gear for different forms of fishing and techniques. I will admit the higher end spin reels Daiwa shines, but the bottom to mid end Daiwa is overpriced barring the BG. I have a Stella 20k, Expedition 5500H, Dogfight 8000, Saragosa 10K and 20K, Biomaster 10k, Catalina 6500, BG 6500, Fin Nor Lethal 100 and Quantum Cabo 120PTSE. People need to bear in mind that Daiwa customer service is poor compared to Shimano. Magsealed reels are more sensitive to service and maintain and Daiwa don't sell the ferro fluid. Not only do the reels cost more but service is also more expensive and take much longer to get your reel back. Shimano also make great products and they're number one in customer service. In regards to rods, I prefer Daiwa especially for surf but for offshore boat rods Shimano takes the cake. There are also a plethora of other rod-making companies out there that blow both Shimano and Daiwa out of the water. Some brands to consider are Blue Marlin, Century, Zziplex, Zenaq, Temple Reef, Assassin, CTS etc. Only the idiots of this world stick to one brand name beause they're ignorant and uneducated of other high-performance brands.

Thanks for you comments mate. As I have stated in other reply's on this video, all brands have some good and some not so good reels/rods. As a serviceman however, Daiwa reels tend to suffer far less corrosion issues than most other brands. As for a person being ignorant for favoring one brand, I prefer to look at it as they are passionate about one brand and there is nothing wrong with that as far as I can tell. As for mag seal being sensitive to service, I'm not sure where you get that info. I have found servicing and replacing Mag seal to be a cake walk and there are very good Ferro fluids available from many sources that do the job nicely. Thanks for watching the video. Hope you enjoyed it. OX

The reel has been sold to another fisherman who still uses it regularly. It has yet to be re serviced almost two and a half years later but we did replace the corroded bail wire but it still has the original handle

We live in a fast paced tech loving world HO. My guess is that Company's like Daiwa feel the pressure to constantly change and upgrade to keep up with peoples drive for the new tech and upgraded performance. I have one of the old Expeditions and the lasest one and I will never sell either.
