There's several quarterbacks who are in line to receive a contract extension, including the Cowboys' Dak Prescott. The usual process is the next guy up gets the biggest deal, but with QB contracts skyrocketing, do Dak & other QBs like Tua Tagovailoa deserve to make almost $60m a year when they haven't seen playoff success? GBag discusses the report that Miami isn't willing to meet that number for Tagovailoa in the video above.

There is 30 years of evidence showing that teams don’t improve their record by paying top dollar to a QB that isn’t top 2 or 3 in performance. It isn’t about what the QB “deserves”. It’s about whether or not paying them that money actually helps or hurts the team.

It's the owner's fault. They marketed the league as a qb league...so they didn't have to pay rbs... Now they don't want to pay qbs...and guess who's arguing? Burriw or The TO machine named Allen,or the rusher named Hurts haven't won a thing...so why, again,are they better? By everyone's logic,only Mahomes should be paid top tier... It's only been him and TB12 for years now... Have the QBs paid from the owner's profits...because they can have bad teams while not approaching the cap expenditure...ala tanking, without repercussions. JMO

The owner's wanted the salary cap. They DID NOT count on the rise of analytics to best team build under that system. Analytics say QB, Edge, WR and CB are THE POSITIONS to pay top $$ for in this system. So with QB being the most important by a mile what happens? QB's get MASSIVELY overpaid. The system needs some tweaks. I think a separate system for QB is probably needed.

This whole “it’s a QBs league” thing has to be revisited. Football is a team sport and I’m not sure paying your QB the majority of the salary cap is really the way to go nor is there much supporting evidence of this working out either. This is the Dallas Cowboys not the Arizona Cardinals or Detroit Lions. Those fan bases would be satisfied with 12 win seasons and no playoff success.
