The Mavs didn't lose the finals because of defense. We needed scoring and we got it.

The crucial part of Thompson isn’t that he shoots threes at a pretty high percentage still at this point in his career. It’s that he has four championships and has been to the finals more than that. So when you’re playing Boston in the finals he’s not going to piss down his leg at the thought of putting up a jumpshot and pass the ball around to somebody else who is equally bad or worse, forcing them to jack up a shot. If you get him and Luca both playing well, it lifts pressure off Kyrie and if all three of them well think about what that does for Washington and lively or Gafford. It’s a cumulative effect. Instead of one guy playing well and everyone else worried they’re going to let the team down, you have two guys playing well and everybody starts relaxing and playing their game. Even with Kairi choking the entire finals, if you had Washington from the OKC series averaging 20 to 30 points, they still beat Boston in both of those games they lost by seven. Check the numbers and you’ll see that Washington killed the Mavericks by not being able to make shots even though you could pick any role-player and say the same thing. I hate it when people say Boston was the better team because Dallas had every opportunity to beat them but no one stepped up. That’s what Klay gives you.

DJJ is no slouch defensively but his rating improved drastically after the trade. Avg 8pts. Shooting and FT making is a skill that is not that way. KT will be making doubters look foolish. Remember when we traded DFS? Kyrie was rated as a D? People run their mouth recklessly too often.

@@ariz7493 way to state the obvious. I never said it was. Making claims about players before letting it play out and being absolutely wrong then doing it all over again. “People run their mouth recklessly too often” I’ll let Niko Harris cook. @@OfficialFamosMuzik it was still a terrible comparison tho 🤷🏾‍♂️. Ppl only said Kyrie was a bad move because of off the court stuff. He still played at a high level. Can't say the same for Klay. Hopefully it works out but it won't be at all surprising if it doesn't.

Being critical of a deal for a team cancer of almost a decade is not reckless. It was a huge gamble that worked out. Don't get it twisted with hindsight. Kyrie made an unbelievable 180 and it's amazing. Don't be so delusional to state he wasn't a team cancer and detriment to team success for almost a decade.

Is it possible that Klay was mildly irritated with his GSW situation and he sat and watched the finals and thought "I could totally help the Mavs win these games they're losing. It's probably that simple

01) I for one can't understand why so many fans wanted to hold onto Josh Green. Over the past two seasons he's had plenty of opportunities to both start and get the experience, yet he only averaged 8.7 points while his PoA defense has been subpar. He did shoot over 40% from 3 in the 22-23 season, but this season it dropped back down closer to his career average of .375 (.385 last season.) He's athletic and a solid NBA role player, but I don't think he's worth his contract. In fact, the Warriors didnt even want him in the Klay trade... they opted to let another team pick him for a 2nd round pick. They chose a 2nd round pick over Josh Green, let that sink in. The Mavs were able to pick up Grimes, who is similar in age & size to Josh Green, but a far superior defensive player. Grimes had an off year last season, but I probably would too if I was traded to Detriot. His first two seasons though he averaged over 38% from 3 and played better defense than Josh Green. 02) DJJ was incredibly fun to watch. He was a former slam dunk champion, super athletic, and very solid PoA defense. Having him running the floor with Luka & Kyrie made for some highlights for sure! However he was a liability on offense. DJJ is a career 31.5% 3 point shooter, which def showed in the finals. He shot a career best 34% with Luka dishing him so many open 3s this year. 03) The reason we lost the finals was due to lack of offense. Kidd tried to insert THJ to help, but he's worthless. Replacing THJ & DJJ with Klay & Naji greatly helped that issue. Naji shot almost 39% from 3 last year & Klay has an 11 year career average of over 41%. Naji is a good defensive player, but brings something THJ cant. 04) Overall replacing THJ, DJJ, & Josh Green with Klay, Grimes, & Naji gives Kidd a ton more depth to work his lineup rotations around. I think you might see a linep of Luka or Kyrie with Klay, Grimes, PJ, & Lively a good bit when defense is a goal and lineups that look something like Luka-Kyrie-Klay-Naji-Gaff when they want to run & gun.

If The Mavs had Klay in the finals they would of not lost 4-1 the Mavs would at least got to a game 7 or lost 4-3. Mavs need somebody to step up and hit at least 4 to 5 three's in those finals.

If Klay was $30M+ then I get the hesitation. This is literally THJ money, maybe even less since the cap has and is going up again. This is a low-risk/high-reward move. It's not crazy to think Klay isn't what he was 4 years ago but this is still a great deal for the current version.

My biggest concern is if Kidd promised Klay to start, but when it becomes clear he would be better off the bench. Then what? Will he accept being a 6th MOTY candidate? Will Kidd force him as a starter for 3 months, before he makes a move? Will Mavs be back Fighting to stay out of the play-in again? Mavs should have home-court adv, be in 1st-3rd place from the beginning.

If you are asking the question of just Klay worst case, it's no different then having THJ on the bench. You manage the bench players rotation and Klay is either there or not and your core team isn't changed as much as we hoped but still has a top 4 in the west potential. If we look at the rest of the roster we basically switched out 2 speed and energy defense guys for slightly different types of defensive minded guys who statistically shoot better so it means marginal nett positive versus a massive gain. If Klay is just a shooter from the bench it means you have a 9 to 11 man deep rotation with him as your 10th guy. It's kind of wild

If Klay can give you 15-20 points per game it’s a significant improvement. . Adding Klay makes Dallas one of top 3 teams in the WC. IMO: Denver, OKC and Dallas….in no particular order.

We need a lot of blowout wins that preserves our starters and get our depth good minutes. Thats why you got Klay. 50% from 3 will do that for you. Klay is a MASSIVE steal at his price point if he just stays healthy.

Mavs need to sign Dario Saric on free agency with 4.4m eception left, 6.10, can handle ball, shot 3pt and can be used as small lineup center (replacing Kleber). Then use Kleber and trade him and 2031 1st round pick for either Matisse Thybulle from Portland or Marvin Bagley III from Washington.

If the Klay signing doesn't work you have THJ part 2. But that is worst case scenario and at lower % of the yearly cap.

Why bring up how many games green and klay played in anyway. after two more seasons, Green is going to play in hundreds of more games and Klay won't be playing one. Might still be being paid by the mavs as a stretch wave, but his tread is nearly that of Broke Back Kembas. And at his age, they can't replace those tires.

You nailed it big guy! I loved to see Josh Green get traded. The dude was not worth his contract, and Grimes will completely replace him for a fraction of the salary. Naji is just as good on defense as DJJ, but shot 39% from 3 last season & can create his own shot. Klay is so much of an upgrade over THJ, it's comical.

No, it's that Klay is a much less streaky and slightly better THJ(when he's on). Which isn't a bad thing in itself. But Klay is now a one dimensional Chucker(one of the better ones in the league) but that's it(like THJ) offers nothing else. DJJ guarding the POA defender let Luka and Kyrie play on the floor together and get to the Finals. Not his fault that they would hunt luka and Kyrie in switches. Well now they got a 3rd guard that cannot gaurd gaurds(our 4 and 5 can't do it either gents). So yeah theres way more to it than just klay being totally washed(which will be soon but probably 2 years). I'd go so far as to say with the Defense holding the supposed greatest Offense ever assembled the media hype gave the Celtics, to 106 points a game. It was not the defense that lost that series. And yes it was our lack of a capable 3rd scorer(in fact a 2nd one as Ky wasn't there either). But we still missed many open 3's. Would klay made a difference as a back up playing close to starter minutes. Yeah he would have made some impact. Enough. I can't say that, but I do think the mavs had a chance. Now......Not really. Asking a awful lot for Grimes to defend and also hit enough shots where he is playable. And he's gonna be a back up anyway. Also don't forget that theres a great chance Klay and Ky are retired/gone in two years. That's when Lukas super Super max contract comes up. So no replacing those old men with good young men. Gonna be spare parts. Then what grade you gonna give nico when Luka demands a trade and frankly trading him is the best option. All I got to say is he and ya gonna be cooking the egg on your face if they don't win it in the next two years. Cause it's possible doomsday clock countdown time. In fact that clock has already started.(Can't reverse age or bad mistakes gents)

Now Klay and Green is MJ and Rodman. (then in typical fashion) right after this comparison, he says it's upsurd the reporter compared Klay and Draymond. Look, he reported it afterwards because like 98% of all sports writing and reporting. It's Homerism fanbase stuff. Casuals don't want to hear criticism. If Klay was here last year and we made the finals and he shot 0-10 in the deciding game and was traded for DJJ. Ya be loving on that. the question is. One would he right. They call it. Stick around and find out.

I really enjoyed this segment. They keep coming back to the question that I've had to deal with for like 30 years of talking sports and coming across haters. "Oh really, you don't like Tony Romo? Then please, tell me who YOU think the QB should be and HOW YOU would make it happen". And now it's just become a pet peeve of mine. STOP CRYING JUST TO BE CRYING!!! Sure, it's fine to criticize your team but you gotta come at me with more than your crying about it. Like the Jason Kidd stuff this past season was becoming annoying. I got it. I was unhappy with Kidd too. I just didn't understand why Nico got him TWO rim running big men when he wasn't using them. But I was also asking....who is out there that can do better? All the good coaches were in good situations and not going anywhere. So please tell me WHO should be coaching the Mavs instead of Kidd or else go cry somewhere else. The Haters put me in a bad spot. I was unhappy with Kidd but I was also defending him with the "but who are you getting to do a better job" question. And I practiced what I preached. I just stuck to the reasons why Kidd was making me feel like he should go. I wasn't just some parrot out there "FIRE KIDD BWAAAACK FIRE KIDD FIRE KIDD"

I always hate people who say they want to hear the question and then totally straw man the answer. Yes we wanted the team that made the Finals back. But we wanted it tweaked. You could have kept the same team and traded the 2nds they snt THJ to get Grimes and found a way to get Klay. Also since ya think Klay(The good THJ) is gonna change everything. Why would you not want to give up a 1st then to run back a finals team with Klay. Why do the Tyson Chandler thing and let him walk after getting there. It's intellectual dishonesty to say you want to hear the question and then say "What ya want the 50 million a year best player in the league then". Nah, That's not what people in their right mind is saying. But you did.

Is Josh Green going to go for 11 3’s in a play off game? Never happened. Maybe? Will Klay as a catch and shoot with Kyrie, Luka and Lively on the court hit 11 3’s? Maybe. More likely than Josh Green. He doesn’t need to be the #1 or #2 player on the court.. or even #3 again. LIVELY IS A MONSTER. So Klay as a #4 won’t get buckets?

Funny how ya bring up his great shooting games to dismiss the 0-10 game in which it really was the ONLY GAME THAT MATTERED THAT SEASON. And no, Nobody ever(beside baldy) said "Well I guess that means he's gonna shoot 0-70 in the playoffs". More strawman arguments. Makes me wonder if ya know anything beside homerism. Guy on the bottom right does have a bit of a clue at least.
