i think you'll find Normal People is less about overly sweet, gushy romance and more about discovering what the characters mean to each other; i feel the same way about contemporary romance and hope you enjoy it, it's one of my favorites! :)

as a german I feel the need to tell you to forget about faust II (it’s super strange and lacks everything that makes the first part so very special) and focus on faust I instead, it’s weird and special and magical. and it leaves so much room for interpretation. enjoy!!

I'm curious what you'll think of Normal People, for I would never categorise it as romance at all. It's more of a psychological coming of age analysis and the romance itself more and exploration of interpersonal relationship than a "romance" as in romance novel.

@@nataliabmachado I would say Romance novels and novels about romantic relationships are one and the same. I can't think of an example of a novel or story of a romantic relationship (regardless of whether it's a "psychological analysis") that isn't a romance novel. Though I respect your opinion, and you gave me lots to think about, Normal People was, in principle, a romance novel.

Ah! I’d never heard of that book inspired by Henry Darger till now, the excerpt sounds fitting. He was a reclusive janitor who obsessively wrote and drew about these child warrior sort of sister characters he’d created for something around 50 years in secret. His work is not for the faint of heart, but I personally take great interest in it!
